I agree, they're almost certainly fake/spam accounts. But did Tim buy them? For that you need proof like a leaked email, a whistleblower, an invoice from a spam supplier or confession from Tim. Right now I could spend $50 and buy followers for any twitter account I want just to mess with someone.

So what can you do? As it stands you only have your beliefs which is OK with me. As long as you understand that others might not believe the same thing.

I estimate he bought 25,000 followers, buying that many would cost at least $150. Someone else could have done it I suppose but seeing Tim's ego, it is very likely it was him that bought them.

Assuming this graph is accurate I agree with those numbers



And he certainly has an ego, but the rest is conjecture. The getting busted and milking it for a story is equally likely I think.

Yep...Nothing like hard evidence to prove he bought followers... I didn't know that twitter counter existed either...cool, and the 25K sounds about right
