It's usually reserved for celebrities or publc figures so that their followers can be sure they are the real person and not someone claiming to be them as happens a lot in the twttersphere. Surprised Jade has been verified but good for her I guess.

Basically it's to determine the authenticity of the account...so people don't go following fake accounts

If you have some relative amount of fame you could get a blue check (Not everyone can get one).....

Probably a lot of the HG's could get verified (Sharon would probably have the longest wait or would be the least likely to get a check probably..:-)) but you have to submit something (I don't know these details of how to do it) and it takes a little while to get the check...

If you look next to any REALLY famous person they will almost always have one...

You don't/can't apply for it. Twitter does it to accounts with a high level of hits.

That is incorrect.. you still have to apply for it....Twitter hands it out on a case by case basis. A bunch of the BB contestants could probably get one if they wanted, but it will take a while...

I stand corrected, but I was more referring to the comments that you or I could probably do it which I doubt we could unless any of us are secretly carrying a lot of Twitter followers lol.

I don't think you always have to apply for it either. My brother is good mates with a footy player who's account was verified without him having to do anything. He was the only reason I'd even heard of it before. Unless his manger did it for him.

You do apply for it, but I was wrong about it being available to any member of the public. It applies to

"highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas."

That's from the Twitter site.

I remember reading from a well known actors twitter that they didn't want to provide a copy of their passport or drivers licence so that they could get verifed.

Don't know what the requirements are now though.

Interesting...I had never heard of that being verified w/o doing anything (You sure he was being truthful with that).. I had one friend and he kind of explained the process he said he had to fill out something and got verified (he was on a US reality show)

And yea you or I could never get verified...and it isn't just based on followers either, so Jade probably does have enthusiastic fans (hits is one way that they determine from what I read) so I'm not knocking her at all...

I reckon the amount of tweets they're tagged in might have something to do with it too. She gets tagged in a shit load of tweets to the point where I don't even bother looking anymore to see if she's been tagged in anything interesting because there's too much irrelevant crap to sift through.

You don't have to be famous at all. You need to prove your identity AND pay a fee. Swizz Beatz told me this little bit of information after I asked him a few years ago. :-)
 
Some wanker posted the entirety of that TVFix breakup article in the comments of Drew's Instagram pic with his Melbourne friends in Redfern. What a brain trust over there.
 
Come to think of it I remember seeing one actor's twitter which had no tweets and not that many followers but it was still verified, wish I could remember who it was. I suspect that maybe certain agents/talent agencies have a deal with Twitter where they can verify their talent's accounts for them.
 
So Dougal is meant to be doing Big Day Out, perhaps if Drewza is meant to be going back today he will join? Haven't seen anything to show he has caught a plane yet - though that doesn't mean anything since they have slipped through the airports many times without anything appearing on social media.

If he is leaving Saturday (I assume Todd will be seeing him Saturday night), I don't know why he wouldn't have a drink with Simon since he normally does his biz on Fridays - unless Drewza and Tilly are doing something that prevents it.

Also Simon was in Sydney Confidential today as well, no "scandal" exactly though - just Buns 'n Balls moving out of the Cross and into an eastern suburb because of NSW's new lockout laws and "increased pressure from police and licensing authorities".

So, no fees, no application mentioned here - twitter does it by the looks of it.
So Jade is obviously happy they've done it, it sure isn't something that should be getting any negative comments that's for sure.

Yeah I read that as well and yet I know people have applied and gone through the process of being verified. This comes from the people on twitter who have been verified. Who knows, maybe Twitter does randomly verifiy people without them applying, but do you seriously think Jade would be chosen over Tim or even Tully?

If Jade didn't instigate the Twitter verification process I would be HIGHLY surprised.

Yeah I agree. This article show that you definitely don't need to be a high traffic account or a celebrity/well-known to the general public to be verified.

It specifically says it has nothing to do with amount of followers, and to be honest to non-BB fans I don't think any of the HMs would be more "famous" than any others. I doubt non-BB fans would have heard of any of them, even Tim or Tully. I know during the series of BB I didn't see I wouldn't have known who any of them were whether they won or were evicted first.
 
I was just going by what it said on the actual site.. figured it would be more accurate than assumptions.
But oh well, I'm happy for her anyway.
 
Just to make it clear to the Jade fans, I think it would not diminish the "achievement" of being verified on Twitter one bit if Jade applied for it. In fact it shows a level of forward thinking in trying to build her brand.

How many non BB fans watch the Today Show or Getaway? Because those people will know who Tim is.

How many non BB fans read Sydney Confidential? Because those people will know who Tim, Tully and Drew are.

How many non BB fans listen to that radio show Tim was on? Because those people will know... you get the picture.
