Post BB - Housemate Antics 2013

Not open for further replies.
Generation X: Those born roughly between 1963-1980 (now aged early-30s to mid-40s.)

Generation Y: Those born between 1981 and 1994

Yay post 1000

Generation Y goes to 2004, not 1994. 2005 is the first year attributed to Generation X. (EDIT: The latest birth year by commentators is 2004, in Aus the years used by The Australian Bureau of Statistics are 1983–2000)

We're also referred to as the Millennials. I think most of the housemates this year were Millennials, right? Was there anyone over the 32?

It's crazy that someone who is only just going to be 10 this year is considered to be in the same generation as someone who is 20+ years older than them. Imagine if you were considered the same generation as your parents?

In the article where I got those stats from said this:

Generation Z: Those born 1995-2009, they are the first generation never to have experienced the pre-internet world. Accordingly are already technology-focused. The iPad generation?

We're clogging this up with numbers. I think our 'Gen' is probably more a state of mind :)

This was something I had to research for Uni. There are pretty much no 'standard' dates for generations. Each county tends to use their own date ranges, although they roughly coincide (Mostly 1981-3 for the start and 2000-2004 for the end) Commentators give us the fuzzie date ranges. But Generation Y is definitely attributed to births into the 2000s, the earliest commentators say the generation ended was 2000 the latest is 2004, Generation Xers were born after 2000 nonetheless.

Yes. I suppose so. If we were going by that I'd say that I was born in a different generation to my brother, at least I can still remember dial-up internet and windows 98, although we are the same Generation according to the ABS.

I can also remember dial-up internet and even days when windows only had glass :)

I remember windows 95. Even though we don't have the NBN the internet has improved heaps, I remember having to wait ages for website to load.

Thanks for the warm welcome and not thinking my observation was crack-pottery!

Inigo, you also are great (for the name alone even :p ). Infact the majority of people in this thread are really great (and I have read all 675 pages and am amazed at how everyone keeps things civil).

Gen Z is an interesting divide, not knowing life without the internet and level of technology in current life, almost inconceivable.

I feel like I can safely say that I'm a Gen XYer! Gosh, who knew there were so many conflicting theories on this!

Haha! Seriously though, that comment about not going to see the Presidential history made me think, just go by yaself Benny!
It appears Drew is going. If that's the case he'll be okay. (I seem to recollect you don't approve of Drew, but he's good at keeping things on an even keel.)

No, I've been asking lots of questions on here about Drew regarding his social media use and I think he's about the cleverest of them all; creating his own private Twitter or whatever it was. And yes, hopefully he will keep Tim in check... I just really wish that Ben could have done the Gracelands trip with his Mum like he originally planned. Not sure who's paying for this adventure but if it's Tim's shout then I guess Ben will just have to go with the flow!

If there are cameras along I suspect Channel 9 is footing much of the bill. On a positive note for Ben, if this goes well then perhaps he'll be making enough money to take his mother at a future time. I must admit that Ben going away with friends pleases me a lot, although I suspect it won't all be great fun. That said, any long trips have their ups and downs.

I see what you did there LOL.

Yes we are a very well behaved lot in here.

I don't think it's any secret how I felt about Tim for the last 6 weeks or so of the show, in fact he still annoys me at times! I'm just not sure I'd relish seeing him attacked on social media in the same ferocious way as Ed is getting at the moment. In saying that, I'm also a Jade supporter so I sort of understand why he's copping the wrath of her fans... Though it still seems a bit overboard for mine.

Like your post. Tim is my favorite of course, always will be, and during the show once Ed set himself up as Tim's enemy, he became my enemy as well. But now thats its all done, I'm a bit surprised/shocked at how negative people are towards Ed. He didn't beat Tim, so its easy for me to say this but it was just a game.

I don't have any hatred for Ed. The thing with Jade was very uncomfortable to watch, and I do love Jade but she was the one all over him in that house and yes Ed should have just been very firm that he wasn't interested but he sure gave every signal you can imagine that he wasn't. And Jade knew it too, so if she has been hurt its mostly self inflicted. Ed didn't really have anyone in that house to be his friend in those last few weeks and so he had to take what companionship he could find, so when Matt left, who else did he have but Jade and her friends? He tried to get Drew, but Drew played him off against Tim and made it pretty clear in the end he preferred hanging out with Tim.

I dunno, if you hate him you hate him but Ed is not a horrible person. He did the best he could with his reserved personality. I am enjoying the pictures of him having fun with his brother. I do hope Jaded are done because the whole thing made me cringe, but I blamed her more than him, he did try to tell her. And by the end she used the fact that he had no one else to try and reel him on in. In trying hard not to be a jerk with her, he ended up looking like a jerk to us cos we knew he wasn't interested, so it was a viscous circle.

Bree looks like she's done well for herself (just reading through).

for Ben's sake I hope Drew is there for the whole trip, because I think Tim will go too far tormenting Ben otherwise
