I'm British and living in Australia and don't really like being called a Pom. Most people mean no harm and I don't pull them up on it, but it isn't a very nice word. It could be worse, Italians and Greeks get called wogs which makes me feel sick everytime someone says it as the word has awful connotations.

and yet we have stage shows / movies like WogBoys that have made that term more acceptable ...

my boss calls himself a wog and calls Aussies convicts ... so there ya go ... mostly its good natured ... its the context in which anything is said/written that puts the nasty slant on it

What I mostly notice is the resigned look on his face to the rude tweets/posts he will get. Makes me sad, he looks really nice. I hope he has fun at the whatever it is. The green pants surprised me at first but I like them now.

The jacket is not casual at all, and is a complete mismatch with the pants - irrelevant of the color. They look like 80s canvas jeans

Exactly. I grew up with Italians and they called themselves Wogs. Even in high school they nominated themselves as Wogs (as in where they sat they called it the Wog bench). They actually wore the word with pride, my close friends would call me a Jew or a Kike and it never bothered me at all, as you say it's all in the context.
