Gosh, who would HAVE thought there were so many teachers on here...?!! I could easily name 50+ teachers who have left the profession to pursue other careers. Some have returned, most have not. In many cases, they just couldn't handle the stress.

The OP entry score in Qld for BEd Primary is about a 15... the course is 4 years, including pracs throughout (IMO, the pracs should be ongoing, with more intensives). Some of the more dedicated Ed students align themselves with supportive schools and spend time in classrooms on a voluntary basis. These are the kids who get jobs straight up...usually at the school where they have established a rapport and proven their commitment and enthusiasm. It might only be a contract to begin with but they have a working knowledge of the school; the culture, the staff, the students, the expectations...

I'd love to hear some views on Performance Pay for teachers... Ie paying teachers for their students' results.

I am still a member of the Teachers Federation and as you know I'm a long way left of centre. But I'm for performance pay providing that things like socio-economic factors, isolation etc are part of the equation. After all, it should be easy teach well at a selective high school...not so simple in Walgett or Emerald or high density Housing Commission areas etc. And all of that is probably why it's almost impossible to implement with any equity. Frankly, i'd be happier if it was easy to sack ineffectual teachers. They're a blight.

And that is how he feels after only one night. Lol.
My tip - a nice cuddly blanket in his doggy bed, a Teddy to snuggle up to, a lockable room, such as the laundry - and a good set of ear muffs for the first couple of nights- they will settle down pretty quickly after that. It's hard on the heart, but it works.

We used to always use a clock with new pups too...it was said to mimic the mother's heartbeat.

Yes I've heard of that as well. It is important to get them into a routine right from the start- a bit like children, you make a rod for your back if you give into them at the start.

Drew ,Tim and Tully are going to the Caring For Bali Kids charity event in Melbourne on the 22nd March ....so will be interesting to see if they all turn up.

Maybe I'm just a sucker but I do feel sadness for tully. I honestly need a good yelling at, I know. I can see the self centred, self absorbed entitled princess side, but I also see the self destructive side of her that is completely lost. That's the side of her I can't help but hope she succeeds. I doubt that will make her inner turmoils disappear, but maybe it will give her hope too. This whole in love with alcohol just feels like a cop out. She hides her emotions behind this party girl bitch status she has built for herself. I just hope she snaps out of it soon. I'm in two places with her. Like I said i may be a sucker.
