the phone picture certainly raises some red flags

Well that's why I made the assumption that it was staged. Some of those pics do make me go hmm... Also because on SM they were playing up on it a little and built it up to what it is now. Tim isn't shy of publicity stunts. It's certainly the case even before BB when he ran nude on the plane. He also admitted that he staged the bank details fiasco. Jade is usually very careful with how she comes across publicly, if her interview responses are anything to go by that is. Also, she doesn't let on that there is much happening, so I do think this is Tim and Jade just playing it up for the cameras just a little and having fun with it.

They are fooling the gossip writers imo and it's kind of entertaining seeing them easily buy into it while Tim and Jade sit back and have a laugh.

I don't know, I'm still in two minds over it. On one hand I thought yes, but then on the other after it came out Jade was going out of her way to say that Tim was just her friend which gave me the impression that she was worried about people thinking she was actually dating him...which would obviously be the case if she's dating someone else.

I just don't see the point of them staging something like that just for them to both come out just hours later denying it. I mean if they were doing it for publicity they'd actually keep going with it and not debunk it so soon after the pics/article came out. That would make the whole thing pretty pointless.

I just looked at it from the perspective they wanted to generate talk about themselves and have their name put out there so that they are not lost into obscurity I suppose. Them denying it a little later was to make clear that nothing was going on but at the same time keeps them in the limelight.

Like I said I assumed that we all thought it was a setup, so I'm only coming to terms that this isn't the case and that it is very possible that it wasn't staged. I really just went into this thinking 'oh haha they are playing it up' and didn't even consider it wasn't- whoops! Oh well, it's harmless fun and it's nice to see them enjoy each others company, it provides us with talk other than Drew and Tully and we get pics. I was enjoying the change of topic in here

edit: Though I do enjoy the Drully theories haha. I'm hoping we get some more info soon. I just like that it isn't just about Drully

I'm with you, @Sweetgeek--it wouldn't have occurred to me that it was anything other than staged. I mean, the beach photos? I agree that it's just a bit of harmless fun, the kind of keep-ourselves-in-the-limelight game that even Jade would go along with, so I don't fault them for it at all. But the "haha, we've been 'caught'" stuff just doesn't ring true to me. The whole thing smacks of being in on it rather than laughing at it. IMO.

That doesn't necessarily raise a flag for me for two reasons. The first is that when my phone is in the sun, my screen looks completely black and I can't see anything on it. I have to move into the shade to be able make anything out and then it is very faint. The second reason is that they could have been looking at something on the phone and talking about it, with Jade holding it up as emphasis, and the screen closed while they were still talking (mine closes very quickly - not sure if it the same for all phones, though).

Hahaha it very well could be staged, like I said, I'm still in two minds. There are things that are giving me the "staged" impression too. For starters Jade looked way too pretty to me and they were colour matching. However I just think they'd be going to a bigger effort to play it up and not crush it straight away if they were in on it. I mean I'm sure they're both smart enough to know not to immediately crush any talk generated about themselves...especially if they initiated it.

They wouldn't have to come out and lie and say they were dating or anything, but simply not saying anything would do the trick much better than immediately crushing it to a pulp. It would keep people talking and the media watching the story a lot longer which means more publicity and exposure for them.

Also I did hear an interview with Tim about it yesterday morning and he seemed pretty genuinely shocked about it. I find Tim is pretty transparent and you can usually tell when he's lying or playing it up.

Who knows, either way they both seem to be enjoying playing with it so power to them. Whether intentional or not they've somehow managed to generate some BB buzz in the media (Sydney's biggest publications too) which I actually find really amazing this long after the show finished.

It was totally staged, I'm just not sure in the exact capacity. Even the way both Tim and Jade had matching statements about supposedly discussing the people they are really dating seemed suss, they were worded so similarly. I can't decide if it was Tim & Jade's doing or the paper's or a team effort, but it was a good way to remind more casual BB fans about them and potentially generate interest amongst non-viewers. Plus denying it kind of draws more attention to the cause, but most of all their little cover story creates intrigue and might make people want to pay closer attention to both of their lives. Seems very PR stunty to me.

I agree, littlebear. If they are really dating other people and the media hasn't caught on to that, well that tells me they are capable of hiding certain aspects of their life. They did not try to hide this one at all even though they lead people to the idea they may have been dating with their tweeting to one another before the article was released. that's why I say they built it up slowly. But the thing is, they stated they were dating other people- almost feels like they wanted to generate curiosity about their love lives- yeah? I mean it can be taken in any way, like wanted to reassure the people they are dating, that they are somewhat acknowledging them, but... It feels staged to me and like you, it didn't occur any other way. Only speculating of course.

@Gemini, Tim is transparent, so yeah, there is room for doubt. Though he did pull off the banking fiasco pretty well, even his father was fooled by that one ha! Good publicity is not a bad thing at all, and this is good publicity imo

What part was Tim shocked about?

I'm not sure about it. With the wording on their photos regarding dating others, Tim posted his a fair while be fore Jade did so she could just be running with his explanation for conformity. It's also interesting that the later article (with the series of Coogee shots) only quotes Tim, and doesn't appear to have spoken to Jade. Bearing that in mind, I could see the first article being complete speculation on behalf of Sydney Confidential which they both denied and then let it go. Then Tim was interviewed on radio about it yesterday morning and the second article comes out only quoting him - so I could see Tim then running with it.

What part was Tim shocked about?

He just seemed shocked (in a good way) that the whole thing was published to begin with (this was when it was only the one picture in the Telegraph before the Dailymail pictures came out). He didn't say he was shocked or anything, he just seemed incredibly excited and surprised.

He might just be getting better at playing "genuine" though.

I took the 'people we are dating' to be that they are going on dates, not that they were necessarily dating one specific person. Jade has mentioned a couple of times recently on twitter that she is single - so I don't think she is in a relationship, just going on dates.

To be honest, when we first saw them yesterday I didn't automatically think it was staged. It was only from people in here saying it and looking again that I thought yeah, probably was.
No photographer would follow them for so long otherwise, surely.
I think it was something set up initially by the paper - probably through hassling them about the status of their relationship (like people do on their social media) and wanting to do an article on them. This was a way that shows their easy friendship, and also allowed Jade and Tim to set the record straight in a public way that they're just friends and try to stop the questions. I like how they're using that publicity in a smart way to get the message they want to get across - i.e. they're close friends It lets them control the narrative of their own life in a light-hearted and fun way.
This won't stop questions though. People are still asking where Ed is ffs.

I agree about the dating - I never took that to be any one person, just dating in general.

Which paper, though? The first article really didn't show anything other than a pretty tame Coogee shot and some already seen event pics. It was the later article in a different paper after Tim's radio interview that had the more coupley shots. If the Dail Mail - which had the series of shots - set it up then they were badly beaten to post by the Tele. If the Tele set it up, then major fail on their part because the Daily Mail had the better photo scoop.

Yes look that makes sense to be honest, I guess I can see both sides it just seems very bizarre to me if it is an organic article. It doesn't quite seem Jade's style but Tim for sure. It's just the pics that does it for me, they really remind me of total fluff articles you might see with a really clear, up close photo of someone like Mischa Barton (ie totally irrelevant) buying a pregnancy test and you just know it's a feeble attempt to generate interest. That is a more extreme example of course and whatever is going on here is harmless and in good fun and doesn't bother me, I'm just not 100% sold on it being a genuine series of events.

People need to get over this already! Talk about them in past tense not like it is actually happening. It's been what 7 months! Argh! Poor Ed and Jade for this.

That's the thing for me, if these are just dates and not a serious relationship (yet, maybe), then there is no reason to have declared it. They could have denied their so called romance and put an end to it. I feel like it was done to generate talk and that's not a bad thing at all. It kind of places BB in a positive light and to show that there is potential to become a reality success in some way

See, this is the one thing that's throwing me off. They'd get so much more publicity with speculation that they were dating one another than they would speculation they were dating a bunch of randoms. If they did initiate the article and pictures for hype, why crush it so soon? Seems pretty counter productive to me.

I'm still on the fence. Who wants to join me?

Exactly. I can see the possibility that the whole entire thing isn't shenanigans, because I'm also not clear on what the genesis was or who started what, but nothing short of a time machine and omniscience would convince me that those beach photos were legitimate sneaky paparazzi shots.

Yeah I have no idea. It's only speculation from me too lol
For all I know they could both be dating someone seriously and just are keeping it away from public.
Or alternatively they could really be dating each other and making Jimmy babies and are just throwing people off the scent haha

Aside from being true and not requiring them to fake a relationship, they could see "who are they dating?" as generating double the speculation/publicity.
