I have a question,Estelle is apparently raving about this hard life she has had hmmm i have to ask what could it be.
she obviously grew up in pony club (which is very expensive) to be able to do show jump (which is very expensive) she claims she was offered a roll on saddle club  so that would mean she was through a agency quite young as only kids star on that (which is very expensive) sounds like she was raised with a silver spoon to me...so if this hard life wasn't because of lack of money she must of had abusive parents? but yet her relo's have raved on fb what a great mother she has... surely she isn't lieing for sympathy save votes??? when you do your maths sure sounds like she is!

Read the forums, there's already a thread.

Just one thing, I had a horse as a kid and I managed to work after school at a couple of jobs to pay for it. My parents paid for the horse but from then on it was my responsibility including agistment, food and equipment. I also managed to attend pony club, though it was in a rural community. I get the impression that Estelle is a talented horse rider so things like the show jumping would probably be on someone elses horse.

She's been vague about it cause I'm sure she wants to protect her parents and privacy but on confidential she said a close family member (most likely her father it was bleeped) is a heroin addict. Kinda naive to assume just because she had money at some point in her life than she had a perfect, happy upbringing.

Go to the other thread.

Although I don't think nine should have aired it. It sounded like one of her parent was / is a heroin addict.

Her mum couldn't want. Her dad had no money to help them out.

Make of that what you will. Certainly no country club set.

No not naive at all actually as family members are all over fb page stating how great her parents are,so if you have great parents and lots of $$$ where's the hard life ...the herion addict could of been a comment about any relative bit naive of you to assume it was her father it was beeped out and most i have read everyone is saying brother!

Honestly Estelle's friend confuses matters more than anything else.

"since when does owning two properties (with her mother) and a 1997 Range Rover make you rich, when the two properties are in rural parts of Vic (morwell)?" This states she is poor.

"Just because you dropout of school and are studying doesnt mean you cant earn a decent amount of money, She works full time for a Government agency and is studying via correspondence" This states she isn't poor.

Same post one sentence after the other.

"You don't have to be poor to have a hard life. There are so many terrible things that can happen to families and people E.g. drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, abuse etc etc. If this was the case would you want to have in depth conversations of the such on national tv with people you don't know???"

Estelle has spoken with the others on national tv about her issues.

It kind of makes me wonder if friends or family of HM's should bother posting on the forums, I reakon they get too emotional.

Private school, stayed back a year after she didnt do her exams, is now a law student at university, has travelled the world and gone to europe, owns a horse

Lol

Didn't you watch the show last night?

Her Dad is Ivan Milat.

Let's face it. The only thing worse than being Ivan Milat's daughter, is being a backpacker hitch-hiking near the Belanglo State Forest.

Have a bit of a heart and show the girl some empathy.

This is true. My niece is a talented show-jumper and most of her horses are given or lent to her (often ex-racehorses) and I assure you that neither she nor her family are wealthy. She also gets money for winning events.

*bashes head against brick wall*

I don't think she actually attends a uni, I believe it is an online degree (according to vienamoo)

How can her mother not work but own half a property? My mum was a single parent on the dole and was out of work for a lot of our childhoods, there was no way on this earth she was going to be able to save up for even half a property.

Do you remember why you think she went to a private school? I don't remember hearing that about her - only about Michael and Angie.

I thought I read somewhere that her mum is a lawyer. I wondered if the family had previously had more money - maybe the house was part of a divorce settlement - then had no cash at one stage while Estelle was in high school. Also, I think she's twenty four now? If she left school early and worked most of the time since, maybe she got enough money together for a downpayment on a new property in joint names using her mum's old house as collateral.

I'm amazed at how black and white/cut and dried a lot of posters see life/the world...when it hardly ever is.
And as others have said there is a 16 page thread on this already.

Her mother was apparently a freelance journalist according to that article that came out at the start of the series about her being in the Australian Citizen's Parliament. I'm getting a 503 error on the link at the moment, but I found the article elsewhere:

Shaping the nation
BY NICOLE JACKSON

A MORWELL woman will be among the first citizens given the chance to help shape the perception of politics in Australia.

Estelle Landy was one of 150 Australians randomly selected to participate in the first-ever Australian Citizens' Parliament, to be held at the Old Parliament House, Canberra next month.

The participants will discuss and debate ways to strengthen and improve Australia's political system in working for the people.

The 20 year-old was selected from more than 8500 people invited to be part of the program, and is still not quite sure how her name came up.

"It was a huge surprise,'' she said.

"I went to the mail box one day and found a well-presented invite in my letterbox saying I was shortlisted to partake in the Citizens' Parliament.

"It said we were one of 0.2 per cent to get that far.

"Initially I had no idea what it was, I thought it was junk mail at first but then I rang the number and spoke to someone who explained what it was.''

The Citizens' Parliament is an initiative of the newDemocracy Foundation.

Estelle has always had an interest in politics and at the age of 18 she became part of the Socialist Alliance in Melbourne.

"My mum was a political freelance journalist for Time magazine, so I have drawn most of my political views from family roots,'' she said.

"I took political studies at high school and I still have an interest in it.''

Estelle has been communicating and preparing material for discussion with other participants who will attend the sitting, via an online forum.

The issue she hopes to raise is that Australian History Politics be a mandatory subject for students up until year 12.

"Voting is compulsory and I think the youth of today are not well enough informed and I don't think they have the full information to make informed decisions when voting,'' Estelle said.

"It's not that people don't want to learn, but the structure isn't there.

"We need to be educating so we have correct or well thought-out leaders selected.''

Estelle said she hoped her participation in the forum would make a difference.

"One advantage of being young is that I can represent the demographic of youth,'' she said.

"I feel I am still fresh enough to put forward some common views.''

Estelle also looks forward to seeing how parliament works.

I think that's what I saw - but I misremembered the profession. Thanks, Pecan. It sounds like her mum not being able to work was something that came after she'd already had some career success.
