From the articles released before the launch:
"2014 is the year of power. Every week a new power will be introduced, and a new housemate will hold the power. Money will play a major part."
"Tasks determine what the Housemates eat… and consequently how happy they are! This year, they will be truly pushed to their limits and that will have far-reaching consequences. ‘The Tasks are going to steer [the Housemates] into getting advantages; to show us how clever they are; how much they’ve been observing what’s going on in the House. And those Housemates who pick up on a few of those clues are going to get an easier ride in the Tasks this year,’ reveals Jack Kain, the man who leads the Big Brother Tasks team."
So I don't think this food issue is going to be a one off thing and the chances of the prize money dwindling are going to continue throughout. You're offered the same amount Jade made last year for coming second vs hoping the Australian public are going to spend their cash to vote for you to win over all the other HMs plus any intruders who may come in? And you have no idea where you rate on the popularity ladder anyway? Easy choice for me.
