Leaked: Meet the 2025 housemates. And will Australia vote in another on Monday?

Yeah that’s true. The elusive “media career” back then was hard to achieve and was likely radio or maybe tv and eventually Zoo or FHM for the women. I guess now a media career is social media and pretty easy to at least get the following after the show. I don’t really follow influencers at all so I’m not sure if the following automatically translates to a career and it feels like a saturated market, but I guess influencer marketing is alive and well and brand deals on the back of the show would be at their peak. But ok… let’s see what Holly brings to the show I guess.

I can’t say if social media was around in the early 2000’s there wouldn’t have been fame hungry HM’s doing the show just for the boost in followers. I mean plenty of woman did it just for the inevitable post-series glamour spread and invites to the opening of an envelope.

I am hopeful that production have done their due diligence and chosen people who are genuinely entertaining even if they are there to benefit from the exposure.

Australian TV producers are so risk averse there was bound to be a influencer/model and a token aussie bloke / AFL player / dickhead.

In reality though how many of these people have found fame through Big Brother after 2005? Other than to become micro celebrities on the Gold Coast club scene then fade away.

It's such a fine line these days. So many people curate their lives on social media for an audience, whether they're monetising it or not. I feel like every other person has a TikTok audience or a mommy blog or a niche podcast or an OF. We're generally much more media literate and self-aware, especially the younger gens.

As long as they have an interesting personality and their primary intention for applying is something more than exposure, I can live with it.

They should be casting people with a low numbers of followers/friends that would show that their main use of social media is based around their family and friends rather than trying to appeal to people they dont even know.

So everything leaked as usual, I see! 🤣

Well I’m starting the campaign for this diva to move in!

I fly like paper, get high like planes
If you catch me at the border, I got visas in my name
If you come around here, I make 'em all day
I get one done in a second if you wait

I said it earlier, but I somehow have 8K followers on IG and I don't even use the thing, let alone put effort into it. I only follow 120ish people.

Exclusion on the basis of numbers is a naive lens in it's own right. If you're only ever casting people for don't have an online presence, then you're not exactly providing a real-world cross section of society.

I'm all for eliminating clout chasers, but we've got to be realistic about the balance. Social media is ubiquitous.
