Annie Hall
Ah, it’s so refreshing to see a romantic comedy that is devoid of conventions and cliches.

This is such a great film. Woody Allen should be the definition of “Neuroticism” in the dictionary. Even if you are not familiar with Woody Allen prior to seeing this film, it’s easy to tell that his character in this is merely an extension and maybe slight exaggeration of his own self. I say slight exaggeration as I find it difficult to believe anyone could be as ..well.. crazy as his character is in this film. Even as a child he seemed borderline autistic, and obsessed with the universe ceasing to exist in a major cataclysmic event. It reminded me of myself in some (disturbing) ways but I don’t think I’m that insane.

I loved Diane Keaton in this. She was so pretty back in the day! At first I struggled to believe that Annie could be attracted to someone like Alvy, but I learned after not very long that she was about as nuts as he is. And that’s why that relationship was doomed to fail.

I also loved all the absurd expeditions into Alvy’s imagination, in which he discusses his relationship issues with random strangers who already know everything about it and trips to his childhood with Annie. It’s one of the wonderful things about this film that is so unique. I enjoyed when Alvy broke the fourth wall and talked directly to the audience, it almost felt like I was a voyeur to ongoing troubles of this highly dysfunctional relationship.

The dialogue is so fast at some points, I struggled to keep up a bit. This film requires multiple viewings, I’m sure of that. Even though in my opinion it’s not his most uproariously hilarious film, the story is fantastic, the leads are highly endearing and it’s a fun ride into the deep chasms of Woody Allen’s brain.

I went and saw "The Blind Side" at the cinemas yestday for cheap tuesday. I quite liked it. It's a feel good based-on-a-true-story about a big black kid who gets taken in by the All-American family. It would have helped to know a little more about American football (during the action scenes) but I thought it was pretty good.

The Hurt Locker - I think I've missed something here, I didn't enjoy it. It was like watching a documentary but not. It's hard to explain, the way the movie unfolded I felt was unsatisfying. This will probably win an oscar but I don't know why. probably because the academy will like the idea of nothing turned into something.

I found it somewhat depressing.

Hey J, my friend saw it and he really enjoyed it, one of the best movies his seen in a while. I'm not seeing it only cause I can't get into "war" movies, never been my sorta thing.

Yeah, it's not really a war movie though (my hubby doesn't like them either), more about the three intertwining relationships, expectations etc. I think maybe people are in love with it because of the fact that it was going to go straight to DVD but it managed to take off and hollywood loves a good story.

A serious Man - oh the main character is funny, quirky and loveable. It was somewhat predictable in the story telling, over bearing wife, kids who don't respect him, trouble in his job, he gets walked over in his life. I enjoyed it, I like the Coen brothers.

Alice in Wonderland - it was frickin awesome, so visually pleasing, it was stunning. Loved the characters, the acting was great. I especially loved seeing a female slay the jabbowocky. The cinema was full of girls aged 6-16 and lots of mums and dads. I found it very pleasing that instead of a always seeing a strong male protect a helpless female we finally get to see a young brave woman stand up and take on some 1,000 times stronger and fiercer than her. It was a great movie in every respect. Can't wait to buy it on blu ray

I went and saw Alice in Wonderland on Saturday night with a friend and the cinema was absolutely chockers, lots of teenagers, some of which kept talking and my friend told 2 maybe 11 yr olds in front of us to SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :p

I was totally enchanted by the visual effects and my friend and I enjoyed the movie. Johnny Depp was absolutely awesome, a couple of times throughout the movie when he just "stared" it flashed me back to the days of Edward Scissorhands. I was happy with the cast for the most part, was not 100% convinced with the actress who played Alice but she wasn't "terrible".

Most people I know have said they think they're missing something when you see it. I enjoyed it as some nicely done scenes, but there really was no story at all. Was just, this is what these guys do. Well done, but yeah it's more an exercise in doing some intense scenes, but not actually a proper movie.

Well, it won best movie, so it must have been the best movie out of the lot............personally I think Up In The Air should have won...........but, haven't seen hurt locker, so couldn't really comment.

Ok been a while, lets see..

Daybreakers - A decent idea and story for a vampire flick done with no style, flair or humour. When the film really needed this. The concept and story is solid, the actors are there but it just doesn't quite work and I blame the writer directors. They didn't know how to direct an atmospheric movie like this. I never saw Undead which was their preivious film, but i believe it had comedy to it. This film needed some, lightly. overall the direction made the film seem duller than it should be. Which is a shame. Also the soundtrack was horrible. it was what you'd expect on a really shitty b-grade movie from the late 70s, early 60s done on someones casio.

The Red Baron - Completely missed opportunity of the film. Instead of focusing on this ace fighter pilot from world war one, it focuses on an unconvincing love story where the two actors have zero chemistry. You see she teaches him that war has real consequences, it's not all a sporting match. However it's essentially all done from talking and exposition. The dogfights are cartnoony but quite well done, however for what ever reason they decided to leave all the important ones to the story out, and so they all serve no purpose when they could have used the money and talent to really punctuate the story. It's just odd this film what they did and didn't focus on. Completely wrong. So the films just plain and simple not worth seeing. It's pointless because the script is a complete mistep. Also the accents and acting aren't too good, and casting an actress in her mid 30s, to play the 20 year old love interest to a character who looks 20 didn't work. Sure Lena Headey is cute, but she doesn't look 20.

Armoured - Bunch of armoured truck drivers decide to pretend they were robbed and keep the money for themselves, but things don't go as planned. A decent little action film. It's not great but there's nothing really wrong for it. So yeah it's enjoyable and you can do a lot worse. There's one aspect to it that I don't know if I should mention, but basically the good guy made things a hell of a lot worse for everyone and that's not addressed at all.

Lucky Luke - French wild west comedy based on a cartoon series. Stars the ever funny Jean Dujardin as Lucky Luke. It's a fun, cartoon type live action comedy. Excellent production values and yeah quite enjoyable. Has a little trouble keeping up with the gags, because it starts off so front heavy with constant ones, but it holds it own. Fun Enjoyable film. It's on as part of the french film festival.

For those who are unaware of Jean Dujardin, i've only seen a few of his films but they were both quite good. Ca$h a french con man comedy which, hey if I can watch and enjoy a film, reading subtitles on a plane, has to be good yeah? and the excellent OSS117: Cairo Nest of Spies, which is the best James Bond parody ever man. It's a genuinely funny film that stands completely on it's odd, but it's a pitch perfect take on the old Sean Connery Bond Films. The sequel oss117: Lost in Rio is on at the film festival, seeing it in a few weeks. If you like comedies and if you like classic bond it's a must.

Alice In Wonderland - I only saw up until Alice was at the Queen of Hearts palace, sitting in the thrown room and then the saturday storm killed the power and the highpoint imax started to flood, so i didn't see the rest. Is it worth seeing, i was only finding it ok, and it had only started to get good for me once alice got to the queen of hearts palace. Does it get better???

Yeah see I think hurt locker won more as an anti-avatar thing and the fact it was an Iraq War film showing the experience of the soldiers. (Which really is anyone else sick of all these films of how hard the war is on the soldiers, oh the poor us soldiers who had to go to vietnam, or iraq or whatever. They didn't have to be there... it's all part of the presenting them as victims which to an extent they are, but the real victims are the ones who had no choice, the ones whose countries were invaded and suffered the most from it.. but oh lets forget about them...) anyways.. It became avatar vs hurt locker, and the negative campaigning against avatar and stuff. Hurt locker was good, but yeah..

Like it winning in sound design and editing over avatar, that was a joke. Every time it was up against avatar it won, except for best score which Up won. To me it's clearly the rivalry between the two, people picked sides.

Up was the best film all round nominated for best picture btw.

Footy Legends
This is a cute little film.

The story is predictable and cliched to an extent but all of the characters are so endearing and likeable, that I wasn’t bothered by that too much. It helped also that I’m a big fan of the subject matter. Anh Do was quite good in the lead role, I thought. There were a couple of somewhat dodgy performances in the film but those were mostly by bit part actors, so it’s not a big deal.

The format of the tournament slightly confused me. I couldn’t tell if they were playing the final or the semi-final in the last game. I felt they maybe could’ve explained that better. Also, the prize for winning was kind of weird. A chance to be a model in a Lowes catalogue? I dunno, that’s odd. Also, they didn’t really explain what happened with Luc’s sister in the end but based on the photos shown in the credits I can assume that she wasn’t taken away from him.

This is obviously no masterpiece or anything of the sort but it’s a sweet, feel good film that will leave you with a smile on your face.

The Rose with Bette - Classic rock movie - fantastic, can't fault it at all. Gr8 music and really shows the life of a booze and drug fuelled rock'n'roller!

All About Steve on DVD
So it won rasberries for worst film and worst actress so I had to see it! Suprisingly I didn't mind it for a bit of fluff.. I think if it was anyone else but Sandra Bullock it would have sucked but I like her so I could sit through it. It's kind of a stalker movie but a cute stalker lol

Whiteout on DVD
Kate Beckinsale, enough said. Ok well it was OK, good suspense and acting but it got kinda boring just watching a woman run around the antarctic looking for a killer.. And the ending sucked too! it had potential though.

Gran Torino - Took me a while to get into it, it was very uncomfortable at points but overall it was really good...it made me bawl my eyes out by the end and even still makes me tear up abit thinking about it :/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205489/

aha! i just did a search for it in this thread, seems i was almost the last person to see it anyway! lol
