Last movie you saw

Hubby took my two yesterday Son 11, Daughter 9...they've seen them all and did the HP marathon last week in preparation. Hubby was ho hum about it, said he didn't enjoy it as much as the others, son said he enjoyed it, daughter's answer (when I said "so what did you think of all the lovie dovie goings on in the movie?" - she loves a good romance - she frowned and seem perplexed. Maybe all this talk of teenage love etc. was above her head (and that's a good thing) since at her age all that worries her is being scared.

Meh I watched it last night but i wasn't that impressed. It draaaaaagggggggggggeeeeedddddddd on and made no sense to those not initiated already.

When it comes to Harry i'm a book purist.

Is that the movie version of "Avatar last of the airbenders" love the TV show

no, Avatar is the new James Cameron movie. It's a science fiction epic set on an alien planet with apparently ground breaking special effects. It's the most expensive film ever, which is why the effects are meant to be so good. It's 60% cg, 40% live action The films been in development for a very long time, with a lot of this going into research and development for these new film making techniques. It comes out at the end of the year, and in what I think is a bad mistake they haven't released any footage or any marketing to the public so far. They have showed screenings of footage and it's meant to at least look amazing.

I thought the latest HP film was one of the better ones. It certainly seemed less disjointed than the last two, but how much of that can be attributed to any talent on behalf of the production team is questionable. After all, anyone who's read the books will know that there's a lot less to 'cram in' in this one. There were a couple of screenplay/editing issues which really should have been recognised and dealt with. I also think that the romance side of things was overplayed, almost cringeworthy. Surely such an experienced team can come up with a more inventive way to signify brooding affection than annoying cameras which linger on embarrassed faces at the end of every second scene? I also hated how they attempted to recreate the emotions of the funeral via the group wand raising scene. Why do this when the funeral would have been a perfect way to end the film? As I recall it, the final scene in the book was supposed to represent togetherness, juxtaposed with the looming threat of what was to come. Yet in the film Ron was sitting all by himself, away from Harry and [more notably] Hermione?

But despite all that, the film was, as I said, a great improvement on the previous two. This was in part due to the improvement Michael Gambon has made in his role as Dumbledore. Still, I can't help but imagining the film being a lot more emotional if it still featured Richard Harris. Selfish old bastard, dying like that...

The "lovie dovie" stuff has been greatly exagerated, I'm afraid, as has all of the 'innuendo' stuff. There's only one true 'innuendo' scene ("So, you did it?"), which is intended as a joke for the more mature people in the audience (only adults laughed, because they're the only ones who got it).

Aside from that, it's just the latest trend for the pitchfork-brandishing housewives (oh, and of course derspatz) to harper on about.

I've since done a bit of research on wiki on the book series (I've not actually read the books) and clued up on the plot and realised that probably somewhere between swilling champagne and chomping on pizza and apple crumble during the screening, I missed why a certain person's hand looked like it did, what the deal was with a certain ring, why a certain person invoked a certain nasty spell, and why a certain person said "please" in a particular way at a certain time.

In short, it all makes sense now ... sense that actual readers of the books would already come to the movie armed with.

That's all information that's supposed to be revealed in the seventh book. You're better off reading about the other memories of Voldemort that they left out, that's the true failing of the movie. You need to understand his character and motivations and the movie just doesn't show enough memories to do it.

As for an "after the fact" bit of crap from the plagarist who is reaping perhaps unjust rewards, re: the "Dumbledore partakes in homosexual past times" publicity stunt, I've just got to wonder what sort of drugs she is on or what her sudden beef was to suddenly trot out something that I've read elsewhere to be unsubstantiated (by the very books) nonsense.

As you've said, you haven't read the books. After she said it, a very big plot point in the seventh book made a lot of sense to me. Remember at the end of the 6th movie where Dumbledore discusses "a boy who made all the wrong decisions"? A very, very important plot point in the seventh book and the whole gay thing actually patched up what I thought was a hole in the books - namely why Dumbledore let this boy make those decisions (provided that he's not referring to himself with that quote).

I watched I Love You, Man, Sunshine Cleaning, 17 Again and He's Just Not That In To You on my flights.

I actually didn't like I Love You, Man. Thinking I would because I'm a fan of Segel and Rudd. But it was so boring, felt like it went on forever and not much of a storyline. HJNTITY was same old romantic comedy stuff, but enjoyable.

I really liked Sunshine Cleaning... and surprisingly 17 Again. lol.

For those who have not read the Harry Potter books, the romance would have looked out of place, but more than half the sixth book (Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince) was focused on relationships and growing up, which I felt the movie captured perfectly. Also the sixth book/movie is more like a filler, in that it's setting things up for the seventh book/movie which is pretty dark, which is why I think the writers incorporated so much humour into this latest film.

Finally got to watch "Gran Torino".

A fairly powerful film, and really liked it a lot. For me, the ending rang just a little hollow (or at least the denouement, rather than the actual ending).

The actual ending when the credits come up has some fairly fine music, and footage of the titular vehicle being driven around the sunny shores of Lake Michigan. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that film was in a rundown area of Detroit....I was very young when there last but certainly that was the Lake the way I remember it. It's stunning that lake, but I digress...

There was a bit about how people use words toward minorities and having no feeling behind it, and having affection for people on a "family" level for their own sake. I thought that was kind of cool.

He's a great actor is Eastwood. He was overdoing the Dirty Harry role a little but that's ok, it wouldn't have worked otherwise.

I like the line, when he's talking to himself in a bathroom mirror: "Shit. I've got more in common with these gooks than my own spoilt rotten family!"

Wasn't that the truth?

8/10 :)

The people that time forgot

Well this was fun it had planes dinosaurs and savages, plus a more advanced group of savages that lived besides a volcano... This was also fun. Bascially it's the story of a group of people including a reporter(female) of course (with camera mind you) that go in search of a colleague of one of theirs feared lost in the antarctic. So they fly off in an amphibious plane over the ice cliffs and such and find a hdden land there. The plane is attacked by a Pterodactyl and crashes.

Then they find the dinos that are there, an english speaking savage girl who was taught english by the missing person they are looking for and of course the other group who just want to throw both girls into the volcano because they're savages who think it's a god...

I had fun watching this

Passengers on DVD.

Stars Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson about a group of people who are in a plane crash and the survivors are piecing back their lives together with the help of a therapist (Hathaway) but not is all as it seems. ;)

I didn't mind this one, a lot of people hated it.. it is slow but builds up near the end.

What genre is it? Drama, Thriller?

Yes. It helps to know a film's subject matter before you extend your patronage at the cinema.

Not so much a movie but a series.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles Series 2.

What a finish ! So much protential ! I do hope Fox reconsiders on the following, but somehow I doubt it *sigh*:

From: http://www.terminatorchronicles.com/more-sarah-connor-chronicles-cancellation-news/

So, Sunday has brought some rather bad news for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. According to two sources, the show has been “officially” canceled by FOX. Worst, according to TVbythenumbers.com, Warner Bros. (who owns the show) isn’t even bothering to shop the show around to other potential networks, which would seem to indicate they’ve given up on it.

Not to be outdone, Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly, who has been predicting the show’s death for months now, added this on Sunday:

Fox: Sarah Connor Chronicles has been officially canceled.

But like I said, Ausiello has been saying that for a while now, so…

Coming on the heels of surprising news that FOX has renewed Joss Whedon’s equally low-rated Dollhouse, I’m sure many of us thought the network might make the same deal for TSCC. That’s apparently not the case.

What we do know is that FOX will be doing its network upfront presentation later today, Monday, which is when it will announce its entire schedule, and we’ll know FOR SURE if the show has been canceled or not.

Update: Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily has also reported that TSCC has been officially canceled. I’m still waiting for one of the big trades to confirm this…

CONFIRMED: Variety has released Fox’s full schedule, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles is nowhere on it. This is the official confirmation we’ve been dreading, folks. TSCC is dead. Fox has canceled it.

Update: FOX prez Kevin Reilly tells TVGuide that even if “Terminator Salvation” does well at the box office later this week, it won’t matter. They’ve decided to cancel the show, and they aren’t changing their minds. And this, after the creators of the show did everything Reilly told them, including adding a ridiculous love interest for John named, of course, Reilly. What a buffoon.

DS you surprise me a lot sometimes. I'll give you this, you've certainly got some diverse interests sometimes.
