Star Trek


A very fun and exciting film.
I'm a trek fan, not a die hard trekkie, but definitely more than a casual fan. So i know my trek and have eagerly been awaiting this film. Hoping it'd be great and it was. The characters are likable, everyone's great and fit into the roles. I actually don't really know what to say, it is one hell of an exciting ride and I wish i could watch a sequel right now. The effects and action is top notch, the story was good, the sets were good. It's shot in an interesting style which really does work to make it really exciting and engaging. When this is going to full speed, you're swept up for the ride more so than most action films. It's also all so cool, this new trek universe.
It's just a solid peace of really entertaining, really well made cinema. I am sure no trek fans would get swept up in the ride. Really can't wait to see more of this. I'll definitely see this again in cinemas soon. There's just so much to like about it. All the negative things would just be nitpicking as in, that water pipe scene was unnecessary, even though it's damn entertaining.

So yeah great film!

I am hoping they add footage for the DVD such as the launch of the Enterprise. I mean it's sitting on the ground how did they get that up into space?

but Sila (heh) makes an Excellent Spock (except I couldn't NOT think of him as Sila for most of the time), and Eric an Excellent Romulan, and Mr HotFuzz is one hoopy frood of a Scotty !

What can I say without spoiling the ride ?

I know. Watch out for actors doing mannerisms of the Trek characters we know only too well. Bones does some GREAT Bones, Scotty, Scotty, and even Kirk, Kirk, here and there

Um, I can't remember if there were any other females in speaking roles in this movie other than Kirk's mum, Spock's mum, and Uhura. I've only just realised that while typing this, so obviously the film makes up the thin on the ground (or in space if you prefer) female roles, some other ways.

Oh hang ... there was that Green Chick - but you know me when it comes to Greenies.

Anyway, guarenteed I'll be seeing it again ... this time with LSCP.

Hmmmm, I wonder if I'll be in trouble for seeing it first and without her.

Yes, it was a fun ride of a film, but I want more than a damned sequel. I want a new series! I mean, big threats coming to wipe out Earth is all well and good, and certainly the plot of almost every Trek film, but I want a nice, leisurely science fiction soap opera, so I can savour the characters and their dramas.

I really miss Star Trek as a television presence. I absolutely loved Enterprise, and was dismayed at its lack of ratings and subsequent demise. I'd love to see this film spawn a new series.

Some further comments on the film: it was great seeing Leonard Nimoy back on screen. I'm looking forward to getting a hold of his upcoming interview on a talk show Shatner apparently has in the works.

Also, I still haven't figured out how alien species can interbreed.

I want to see My Sisters Keeper, but it isnt released in yet (I think it comes out in July). I have seen the previews for it on American TV, and it looks like a real tear jerker. Might have to watch it on my own hehehe

Nah emc, I havent read the book, but I have a kinda general understanding of what the book is about. I have been avoiding reading about it to much, because I dont wanna know anymore than I already know lol.

I'd seriously recommend reading the book beforehand.
It's Jodi Picoult's best book - you won't put it down.

all humonoid species have a common ancestor as explained in that next gen episode. So it's not bestiality, the galaxy was seeded by an ancient sole race and the genee are evolving towards them. They seeded the galaxy because they were alone, and to spread life as their species died off.

I only watched bits and pieces of enterprise. I liked it but it was never great. Watched about half of season one on dvd last year.. watched most of them when they originally aired, then watched most of season three, and the evil spock episodes of season four. DOes it pick up,. The season three were good, but the season one i was watching on dvd had no pullin back. Where as watching Stargate i tended to always watch it in bunches of episode, enterprise i was never compelled to watch the next right away when watching on dvd.


A new trek series in this style would be sweet, but it's too big a scale and too dramatic film making to pull off on the small screen. Although you know, the DS( guy who did battlestar, maybe he could do something.. Apparently part of the deal with the new film was for no new series for a few years, to get a sequel or two out.

CLE, it's in an alternate timeline so they don't have to worry too much about being restricted by official Canon. They can take these new movies pretty much wherever they want

I saw Star Trek last night and I loved it. With my medical condition I have trouble with loud noises and flashing lights and since we were seeing this film on Imax I went prepared. Anti-nausea pills for when my stomach started to rebel, and instant ice packs to keep myself cold and somewhat alert. A bit of hassle but worth it.

I really like how they approached the story, and I thought it was pretty impressive visually. We took my parents, and while I knew my Dad would like it I was suprised that my Mum liked it too (she usually hates 'actiony' type movies and actually fell asleep at one Terminator and one Matrix film) I think maybe the fact that the guy who played Kirk's Father was from Home and Away may have helped lol. jk.

I just went to see Star Trek. I was forced to against my will by Mr Pips. I hate watching all that kind of stuff. Anyway it wasn't as bad as I thought. Chris Pine is yumo, at least I had a bit of eye candy.

Just got back from seeing Startrek with LSCP. A couple of things I noticed this time around.

1) Kirk really does have a thing about females who aren't of his species ... and why is it that red-heads tend to wear green ?

2) When Kirk and Scotty beam into the engine room, is (a) an original piece of set on display near the hatch ? and (b) when Spock asks for security film playback, isn't it a tiny bit of footage shown from the original series that is displayed ? (Note the question mark. I accept that I may be mistaken)

3) The original spock smiles after playing with fire ... as well as announcing the title of the book he wrote in real life.

4) I love it that we got to see The Kirk Kobayasha Maru test (complete with classic Kirk eating an apple visual) at long last after all the references that have boldy gone forth through out the history of StarTrek. (I've already got my own solution worked out for Real Life situations. It involves laughing. )

5) Excellent that the character "Pike" was involved in this film - and the way he ended up.

6) The end of the car scene was all wrong ... no way was there enough time to do all those gear changes AND do what had to be done afterwards, let alone halt personal forward motion in such a space and time.

As Scotty might say "Ye canne change tha laws o physics !"

Still, Very Enjoyable. Oh, and cheers again Midland ACE Cinemas. Just $14 total for the two of us to go to the 4:40 Saturday session AND have a medium pop-corn each.

Oh, and DA, where the bloody hell were ya ... no sign of anyone throwing $300 all over the place nor anyone who remotely looked like a "Frank The Boiler Maker" either !

[EDIT] Just confirmed the following detail. Heh, I love being right.

"In the scene where Kirk is taking the Kobayashi Maru test, he is eating an apple, which is also what he is eating while recounting his tale of taking the Kobayashi Maru test in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982)."
