Last movie you saw

Doomsday.

This only got released on dvd here in Australia but it's really entertaining. It's an R rater, post apocolypitc british action movie. Throw backs to similar movies form the 80s, mad max ect. Was really well done and really entertaining for a fast paced action movie.

The trailer, if it looks like the sort of film you'd be into, it's much better than it looks.

I saw EAGLE EYE and it was a thrill ride, I don't usually like mindless action but this one was awesome all the way to the end.
 
I saw 2001-A Space Odyssey on DVD last night. It was mentioned quickly here and other places... maybe by CLE... and it got me thinking of the movie.
I so much now want to see a 70mm print of this on a big screen again. I needs to be seen that way.

On little TV, with dear wife deciding to go on a dusting binge right in the middle of "My Mind is Going. Dave. I can feel it. Stop. Dave"... I mean, DO YOU MIND???? The little ornaments on the TV cabinet don't need a dust right this second, do they?

It's a movie that gets your mind in a Zone, and people fiddling around with other stuff while you are watching is NOT WELCOME.
 
I finally got around to seeing Tropic Thunder, and I liked it. I was looking out for Tom Cruise because I knew he was in it but it only clicked in the end who he played.
 
I saw WALL•E. There were no kids, and only about three other people in the theatre. :)

After surviving previews of motion capture pop-culture shit the other studios peddle, it was soothing to find myself back with the graceful animation and wonderful aesthetic of Pixar. The typical short at the start was great. Then the feature began, and WALL•E's endearing tale unpacked itself.

Anthropomorphism in cartoons depresses me. It can be effective in satirising human foibles, and was put to good use in Orwell's Animal Farm, but I sure get sick of seeing every single non-human entity behave just like a human. It is even worse when such characters take on specific ethnic traits. I don't want to feel like I'm watching a Bar Mitzvah when all I want is a bit of escapism. Thankfully WALL•E's personality can be explained away as a kind of robotic insanity.

Another thing that gets me down about cartoons is celeb voice acting. Characters should live in their own right, and not be extensions of Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, or any other well known celeb. WALL•E is free of this affliction.

The happy ending didn't seem right to me, but I guess they couldn't have little kids crying on the way out.

Don't get me wrong though: I thought WALL•E was brilliant. It is extra sweet to consider that such subversion has come from Disney. Orwell would be well pleased.

Unfortunately Bkeela my friend anthropormization is rife..... From early cartoons where animals have human qualities to human emotions and speech. It makes them seem endearing and that we can relate to them. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's in context and done without going overboard..

Pixar's Cars was a terrific example of this. The cars stayed cars, thank goodness and didn't start walking with bipedal locomotion but the human aspects were the emotion and storytelling and I loved it for that....

I'm not seen Wall E yet but do tell what would have been your preferred ending?
 
WALL•E's microchip gets destroyed. When he is rebooted with a new one, he is no longer the same. I thought that was quite poignant, though I knew he'd somehow come back and all would be happy.

See they had to do it the way they did as you so rightly assumed above for the kids.

My eight year old had tears streaming down her face at that point. And I must admit i had the beginnings of tears too. But what can I say i'm an ol' softie
 
my sisters broken her arm so she's home from work and has hijacked the tv and is watching a few girlie movies lately, i watched Georgia Rule with her today.... well at least Felicity Huffman was brilliant as always...
 
I like Georgia Rule. I went to the movies to see it... pretty much accidentally at that.

Not as funny as it could have been, mind you, but it appealed to my odd little sense of humour. I like Steve Carrel, I love Anne Hathaway, and for some bizzare reason I like The Rock (???).

The Rock is one of those people, along with Queen Latifah, that based on my personality and taste alone I should really hate but I find myself enjoying them in everything I see them in.
