Last movie you saw

I tried to watch "No Country for Old Men" on a 747 recently, but instead I got hammered, and emotional and watched the movie without really watching it....dunno, it might have been a lot better at a cinema, I feel.

I can't imagine watching a film on a plane. I watch films (or read) as a form of escapism - to rise above my normal, mundane circumstances.

I would find it much more interesting watching what is going on around me on the plane or what is happening out the window. It is not every day you get to see the world from the perspective of an eagle.

If you are on the plane for a solid 8 hours (a typical trip to Hong Kong), then the novelty of what is going on around you wears off. It's a good chance to have a mini movie marathon and catch up on films you haven't seen.

I tend to on planes often watch a movie i have seen before that i like.

I'm a bit of a stickler for wanting to experience films properly. So for the first times, seeing them at a cinema, or on my screen in my home theatre. So unless its a crappy comedy or something in that light entertainment vain, i wouldn't watch it for the first time on a plane.

Someones you don't get much of a choice, but when you do with lots of films, yeah only things i have seen generally.

I too like reading, and sometimes just thinking (and drinking) and observing on a plane.

But with these individual screens, and the selection of movies, sometimes it's just too tempting to try and watch something. Which gives me the idea of a new thread.

:)

Went and saw 'Kung Fu Panda' last night. Not my usual fare but it was Mr Raven's choice (he's a big kid and loves animated stuff), I was pleasantly suprised. It was pretty funny, with some actual 'laugh out loud' moments.

Get Smart It was actually really good and funny, it was like Bourne Identity with comedy thrown in. I never watched the original series, but you don't have to.. Steve Carrell is a genius! I give props to Anne Hathaway too, she kicked some ass!

Finally got around to watching No Country for Old Men.
I have to say i was completely underwelmed by it. It never really engaged me and all seemed rather pointless. I understand some films speak to different people in different ways. This was some what interesting but eh kind of went no where. The whole subtext of the film seems to fit into the category of film making, to full appreciate you have to do further research and analysis, which annoys me. I want a film that when you leave you have all the clues and you then put it together in your thoughts. Maybe it's there, but the fact it didn't engage me, i don't really care or pay enough attention to the detail. Most likely the case.

Also what is with the crap about the bad guy being terrifying? He was kind of lame in my opinion. And the performance was nothing wonderful. It was good, but i don't understand all the praise. It seems like a character that you might find terrifying if you never watched many films with villains.
I didn't find it 'chilling' or whatever other terms people used to describe it.

It reminds me of when you see an old film that was meant to be shocking, such as a clock work orange. Its tame by todays standards and lacks the impact (although still a very good film). Cinema has changed a lot since it was out, the films that have come.
The way people talk about this, it feels they have missed the films that make this, not chilling, make the villian not terrifying. For a film that seems it was relying on this impact, when it's not up to snuff, it looses a lot. Then the rest of it just isn't enough to grab you.

As that Timberlake with the bad mustache and shirt open to the waist? I mean seriously! He gives a bad name to Justins.

Sex In The City... I forced my poor hubby to go with me so next time we will do a guys movie.

Hancock was pretty good. A few of Jason Bateman's scenes reminded me of Arrested Development.

This week, sex and the City for the second time. I'm in love with the naked guy in the shower.:)

I'm hearing mixed things about "Sex and the City", but the people I know have seen it are all dudes. They're saying things like, hey, we were the only two guys in the cinema!

Another friend of mine said, that if he hadn't been a regular watcher of the series, it would have been one of the worst movies he'd ever seen.

I never watched the series, I must say, though I did see a bit of one episode a couple years back, where Victor Webster off Mutant X was tied / handcuffed to a bed by one of the women. A bit like Heather Locklear "couldn't help but overhear" on Melrose Place, I couldn't help but overlook when Victor was on it.

I had Ten Canoes recommended to me today, so I got all excited about visiting the local video store to borrow it. While I was there I was also going to borrow Pan's Labyrinth, another film I'd been meaning to see. I was really in the mood for a couple of movies tonight, but there were no copies left!

I just watched the first 10 minutes of Ten Canoes on YouTube, and it looks brilliant. *sigh*
