What hype was there about Death Proof? Everyone I know hated it. Margaret Pomeranz gave it half a star.
May I be as bold as to say Tarrantino is over rated

I've been watching Rose Red again, by Stephen King. going through a bit of a SK phase again, happens about once every 2 years, where I have to read all the books and watch all the movies. The Stand was last weeks watching, plus The Mist.

I'm not that well versed on King's books but have seen a few of his movie adaptations and I quite like The Stand
If you like the movies and TV adaptions, you should really read the books (if you're into reading). His books convey such strong images and emotions, and they are also have so much more substance than the film version. IT was a good example, it had the same effect on me as the movie (death to clowns!), as in, I wouldn't go near a drainpipe for months!

Death Proof & Planet Terror
Wow so it didn't quite live up to the hype, I found Death Proof a tad boring with all the Tarantino dialogue his is famous for. But he made up for it in the 2nd part of the movie, loved it!
Planet Terror was awesome! Rose Mcgowan with a machine gun for a leg! You can't go wrong! Marley Shelton was also excellent in it! A lot of funny scenes and lots of blood and gore!![]()
Yes the 1st half of death proof is boooring. What was the point in wasting half an hour on boring conversations in a pub when your're not going to do anything else with those characters? That car chase at the end however was pretty incredible. Especially when you know that Zoe Bell did all her stunts on that car bonnet!

Yeah the King based movies are usually not as good as his books, what with all the quirky in-depth detail in the books.
Exceptions: "The Shining", "The Green Mile" - both excellent screen adaptations.
Currently we're part way through a mini-series with Don Sutherland/Rob Lowe/Rutger Hauer of "Salem's Lot" - one of my favourite King novels.

SK must love Rob Lowe for his TV adaptions, he was in The Stand, and I swear he was in something else, as well, maybe it was Salem's Lot though...

Yeah there were TV adaptations of IT, The Shining, The Stand (loved the book but disliked the ending) and now this US cable version of Salem's Lot (shot in rural Victoria).
I think Rob Lowe has just been in in the 2 screen adaptions. Unless he was also in IT.

I ask myself now why even bother to explain the excellence of Tarantino to people whose taste is probably more geared to 10,000 BC style productions big on CGI but lacking in all other departments. These type of people don't require character development and witty dialogue. They wouldn't understand the need for balance. You can't have car chases for the entire film. Quiet times lend weight to dramatic scenes. Ah, they don't understand and they never will.
Now the truth is coming out. Frankly, I'm not surprised that a man who was dying to see 'Jumper' thinks Tarantino is overrated. Obviously not enough CGI effects, hey?

Noooooooooo that's not it.... I like some of his work. I love Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Pulp Fiction. They're my 3 favourites of his, and I recently acquired Planet Terror and Death Proof.
And I think From Dusk Till Dawn is one of his too isn't it?
I like some of his films, I like the snappy dialogue. But I do think he gets a bit too much publicity and credit while others are overlooked. That's all I shall say.
And I'm not a CGI fan.... Movies should be live action as much as possible or not at all.

He gets publicity and credit where it's due. The man is a genius.

Calpurnia, the shakespeare play you saw is one of several modern day versions that the BBC did last year. They also did the taming of the shrew with Rufus Sewell,, a midsummer night's dream, with Kev from Shameless as Bottom, and Macbeth, with Keeley Hawes and James McAvoy (not sure of name spellings). Each one is better than the last!
I think that they also did a modern day version of Much Ado about nothing as well.
I also hated being force-fed Shakespeare at school, and LOVED these versions!
Thanks, Deffy.

Have they been shown here?
I am determined to watch them.

Tarantino
Resevoir dogs was brilliant.
Pulp fiction, again, brilliant.
Jackie Brown. I didnt like it cause id already read the book, so i knew what happened.
Kill bill one is shit until you see kill bil 2, which is truly brilliant
Havent seen death proof.
So, according to me, Tarantino has made 3 brilliant movies and 2 so-so movies. A pretty good resume i think.
If you want overrated then rent out Borat. I give it 2 outa 5...maybe 2 and 1/2 (just). It just aint as good as the TV version. It did have one truly funny bit when Borat wrestled with his naked producer (make sure you aint eating anything when you watch it though).
