In Defence Of Cat & Lawson

Channel 9 will push that Cat/Lawson thing very hard, it is the only Big Brother thing for this year that they are getting any publicity out of.
The ratings for tonight should be interesting, although Big Brother is up against the X Factor grand final remember.

Lawson's buddy is nothing. Cat's twin sister actually commented on the Cat and Lawson situation to tv week.

Tv week runs a week behind. She was commenting on the same footage Jaxon was. If she's smart she'll now keep her mouth closed too. They're not going to drum up support for Cat and Lawson after tonight and they have no shot of winning so there's no point in putting their own names amongst the mess that's going to result because of it.

Apparently she said that Candice was a 'complication'. Even if she was commenting from footage from a week ago that is still a very stupid thing to say.

Yeah it was a pretty horrible thing to say. She should've just kept her mouth shut. How would any of that article look to Candice and her family? This bird's banging on like they're a match made in heaven yet he has a flippin girlfriend for ffs. Bloody hell.

I think that's the part that shits me the most about all of this. People bang on about how they're sick of attention whores and those willing to sell their souls to the media. Just because Candice isn't ranting on Twitter and selling her story to mags like Tahlia was last year doesn't mean she doesn't exist or their relationship was bad or that she's not devastated. And then throw both her and Lawson's family into it too. They're not going to be sitting back gleefully clapping their hands at this "entertainment". Five years is a long time. Longer than many marriages these days. You get to know each others' families, your families get to know each other. All of the people involved need to just be quiet and disappear so they can deal with this as best they can. Including Cat and Lawson.

It's weird. Because Cat's sister has been showing Cat a lot of support on Facebook, and I'm not sure but I think she is also running one of Cat's facebook fan pages. So you would think that she would want Cat to stay away from Lawson knowing that it will affect her time in the house, not to mention the stuff she will have to deal with in regards to the many media questions. All i know if that was my sister in the house I would want her to get away from Lawson.
 
Although I dislike Clawson as a couple and I dislike Cat as a person, I feel that this is a difficult thing to judge because it's such an usual situation that probably none of us have ever been in (unless Tully is here?). It's unusual because:
1. Lawson has put himself on a show where he is being filmed 24/7 and everything he does and says can be broadcast to the entire country. Most people would never choose to put themselves in that situation. So what does that say about Lawson? Should we judge as much as we want because he's chosen to do this? Should we try to be understanding because maybe we would do the same thing in his position? We may think we would never do what he's doing with Cat if we were on BB, but the real reason we wouldn't do it might not be because we're morally superior; maybe it's because we care more about what people think of us than Lawson does.
2. Lawson and Candice's relationship was already nearly over. It was probably a mistake of them to get back together right before lockdown and Lawson probably regrets that but he can't take it back.
3. Lawson knows that Candice can see everything he does with Cat... Does that make it better or worse? I don't know... Better because it isn't being hidden from her (and therefore maybe not really 'cheating'?), but also worse because surely that isn't something she wants to see.

I'm not really defending Clawson; I find watching them slightly nauseating tbh. But I just want to show that it is more complicated than just "he cheated, therefore he's a horrible person."
 
Guys, we still don't know the circumstances that lead up to the kiss, I think I prefer to watch the episode tonight(or more precisely, what Channel 9 decides to show) before jumping totally on the "Lawson is an evil person" bandwagon.
He might genuinely be in love with Cat, or he has feelings for her that have got magnified in the claustrophobic environment of the Big Brother house. Perhaps when both of them are back in the outside world, things will look very different.
In the meantime, it is compelling television.

Everyone will have a view, yours is from an entertainment pov, mine is from an emotional one, neither is right, neither is wrong, we respond differently and that's ok, there is enough room for everyone to respond in the way they want. Just so you know, I cannot help feel the way I do, its the way I am wired, just like you are wired to feel the way you want.

What? That is a very selfish way to look at things. "If something doesn't directly affect me I shouldn't judge". Do you feel the same way about everything or just BB?
There are plenty of things that go on in society and in the world that don't directly affect me but I care about them and have an opinion on them. In regards to judging, you can't help it. It's human nature. Some people just go overboard.



We are discussing something related to emotions, though. I don't think sweetgeek's opinion is strange or overly emotional. I think people find it too easy to just dismiss Candice and focus more on Clawson because we aren't seeing her. She's not on our screens sobbing in the diary room or letting us know how she feels. I guarantee most of the people taking an unemotional view of the situation would probably change their minds if Candice was going through all of this in front of us on television.

You are right, though, we don't know anything about their relationship but imo that doesn't matter. We can only judge on what we are seeing and what we are seeing is a guy who is currently in a relationship cheating on his longtime partner with another woman. On tv no less.
Assuming Lawson's relationship with Candice was rocky only serves to trivialise what he is doing, and what's the point of that?

I think at this point the only thing that would make their behaviour defensible is if Candice and Lawson are in an open relationship (which they obvs arent, judging by his reactions) OR if the whole thing is a huge set up by BB.

There's nothing to defend. Lawson has publicly cheated on his girlfriend of five years. Cat persued a guy 7 years younger who was already in a relationship. They both deserve the backlash which will and is occurring.

Yeah, I agree, we don't have any idea what their relationship is but he walked in and said he was IN a relationship. Whatever that means to them, I doubt it meant she signed up to be cheated on, humiliated and made the object of national pity on a tv show just so he, her boyfriend, could get a bit of action on the side while he was trying to win a bucketload of cash. We don't have to know anything other than he considers that he is in a relationship. And now we also know he's a total dick.

He also said that he wanted BB to tell him if his GF broke up with him. They got back together only 1 day before he came in. To me that is not being in a serious relationship. Anyway that is what I think and I am over this subject. HMs are not my life and nor is this forum. We all have our opinions and that's ok :happy:
 
I feel so sorry for his girlfriend they def should of stayed seperated! But when u do have feelings for someone and ur stuck in a house like they are I could just imagine how hard it is to to avoid it! Don't get me wrong it's awsful what's happening but it's lawsons fault too he goes back to her it's not just cat!
 
I think Cat has done this for strategy, to be honest who would remember her if she hadn't made a play for Lawson. She would have been one of those non entity housemates who no body remembers. Now she has infamy. I think Lawson is just thinking with his dick. Hopefully channel 9 will realise with all the publicity that this has generated. That people are interested in big brother and show us more content.
Bring it on I say, anything that brings big brother new viewers is alright by me. Hopefully we will get a better version of BB next year.

No he said they got back together 1 day after they broke up. Not 1 day before he went into the house. People, especially at that age, break up and get back together. My husband and I did a few times before we were married. I would hate that someone would say our relationship was any less serious, especially now that we have a child lol.

But yeah, I'm over the topic too. It was done to death last year with Tully and Drew and these two definitely are nowhere near as interesting.
