Episode I'm A Celebrity! AU (2016) - Episode Discussion

Ugh, Laurina just can't win. Going off to the trial, Shane Warne is counselling Jo Beth in how to handle her 'because she's a drainer' and instructing her to essentially patronise her and blow smoke up her arse. Meanwhile, Laurina has already proved to us and the camp she is gutsy and determined in her intervening trials, has gotten over her problem earlier with Jo Beth way earlier than JB managed to, and needs no micromanaging whatsoever.

It just shits me. Bonnie, who is popular in camp, is the one that needs that coaxing, encouraging treatment and who is a drainer to look at and listen to, especially in terms of trials. They seem to have fixed an opinion of Laurina early on, and have no idea where she's coming from and feel it's just fine to essentially ostracise her, while pretending to engage and then labelling her behind her back.

Like someone said upthread, Laurina borrows the tweezers for use and forgets to put them back and she's scum, but Bonnie steals your personal possessions and she's just so cute!

Finally, Shane Warnie Warne can go stuff his opinions of how a 'lady' should speak. I have gone off him in a rapid slide since he banged on about his giant bed with the mirrored ceiling. (That is not how a gentleman speaks.)

Warne's ideas on what a "lady" is and isn't allowed to talk about made me cringe as a male. So chicks are great if they're submissive and don't speak unless spoken to. Funny that with all the groupies he's no doubt conquered, he's never before come across a lady can both fart and say the word "fart". Truly bizarre.

...haha!... precisely!... the weirdest part of it is that they all had a collective joke about Bonnie and her Kleptomania... one rule for one... one rule for another for sure... cheers.
I think Bonnie gets away with her kooky shenanigans because she hasn't ruffled any feathers - she's been friendly, got stuck in when needed ... whereas early on Laurina seemed lazy, mouthy and annoying ... its back to those first impressions again

they talk of Bonnie Bonkers is a friendly banter kind of way ... when Laurina comes into the conversation either its met with silence or rolled eyes - usually everyone but Havana and maybe Dean. She's really rubbing people up the wrong way and seems oblivious

I don't disagree with a lot of what you are saying, but..

I wish people would stop using 'girl' as a negative, it implies you think of girls as weak, like if a guy is doing something you think of as weak they're called a girl. So wrong there. I have to smack my hubby's butt all the time for doing it :p

...my bad Insomniac... where I wrote... "I still say that he is a spoilt little wussy girl for that very reason alone"... it should've actually read... " I still say that he is a spoilt little wussy girly man for that very reason alone"... I've written that before mainly because of when I was a little kid in the slums of London in the early 60's that calling another male a 'girly man' was a 'zinger' comment that usually ended up in a physical fight... it was an ultimate put-down comment... (my God!... I've been saying that for over 50 years that means!... **sigh**... I'm getting so old aren't I?... lol!)...

...I do have to say though Insomniac... I would never use the word 'girl' in the negative sense intentionally to imply that women are weak in that sense... it's merely to imply that a male is being somewhat 'precious' in the way that he is acting... as I hold all women high on a pedestal (perhaps with the exception of a couple of ladies on UK Big Brother show as of late)... so I apologise if my saying that irked you... that was not my intent... I'll try to refrain from using that wording again in my future posts so as not to offend you or others... if I stray from that please feel free to correct me about it once again if you so wish... anyhow... regardless... Anthony is still a precious little wuss in my opinion lol!...

...oh by the way Insomniac... I now have this 'Monty Python' type of vision in my head of you smacking your hubby's bare naked butt because 'he was such a naughty boy'... is that wrong?... :whistling::whistling::whistling::rolleyes::biggrin:... cheers.

...^^^^... that is such a great post there Melore... I touched upon these very things in some of my earlier posts... I agree with you in virtually everything in this post... I would so love to see Laurina reach the finals and perhaps even win this just to shove it up the rest of them for their behaviour towards her to be honest... (I did want either Jo Beth or Akmal to win this when it first started though)... Laurina has definitely grown since she entered the jungle both in her stature... her courage and her belief in herself... she is also so much more 'gutsier' than most of the others too in my opinion... I think that she is great!... again Melore... a great post... cheers.

...you nailed it Meglos... I still think that he was trying to invoke a "awww!... isn't he cute and naive!"... type of response from the women in camp and with the public to be honest but it backfired on him big time... as you say... truly bizarre... cheers.

...as with Meglos... you nailed it too crimmy... I just think that Laurina's 'tact' filter is missing to be honest... she says certain things that upsets others but has no inkling as to why they are so upset with her... don't get me wrong though... she is not totally innocent... sometimes she will say some things to annoy some people but I don't think that there is ever any malice intended... she is quite tactless at times but she is not a nasty person by intent in my opinion...

...I do like Bonnie Bonkers... I think that she is great fun... it's just that she is in that 'clique' with the others and she enjoys being in it too... the others need to lighten up with Laurina which seems to be happening with Jo Beth at least... that's a start I guess... cheers.

Moving on from Shane Warne for a moment...
Is anyone else surprised at Brendan Fevola? Because of all the headlines he's been involved in, I had totally pre-judged him, rolling my eyes that he was even cast. I'm happy to say I was proved wrong. He seems like a really nice guy, inclusive of both men and women, adoring towards his ex-wife & kids, and not at all the show pony that a lot of high profile sportspeople are. I loved the way he gobbled down the offal last night in the mistaken belief it would win them some stars.
Go the FEV!

I'm really liking them all, apart from Shane and Havana. Laurina is challenging, but I agree that she is not at heart a nasty person. Neither is Dean. Being boring isn't a crime, it just doesn't make for good television.

Pains me to say this but I think Warnie has to go.

He annoys me and if it is true that he is getting special treatment, it annoys me further. I don't mind the smoking off camera thing but that should show it like they do on Celebrity BB UK, lots of interesting discussions happened round the smoking pit.

Surely it is a two horse race between Fev and The Chief, can't see Dean getting a lot further and Anthony nice bloke but don't see him as a winner.

I would reckon any of the girls could win it except mary be Jo Beth, she damaged her image a bit early on with the Laurina.

Overall not a bad show, not sure it has legs long term looking at the ratings and the cost to produce. CH 7 really stuck it to them by putting MKR up against them, bit of a shame really/

He has always been funny and pleasant when sobre, but Channel 9 knew he would make headlines when drunk at the awards night and then acted shocked when it happened. To a large extent that was an unfair setup. There are certain celebs you wouldn't put in front of a camera on Logies night either. He had other alcohol related indiscretions.

On the home front, I think the main division there was a large gambling addiction causing financial problems combined with the messy end to his AFL career.

...to be honest Meglos I haven't given Dev much thought at all throughout the show... I've never heard or seen anything about him until he came onto the show so I know nothing of his past indiscretions so I haven't prejudged him at all... but now that you say it he has really grown in there under the shadow of Warnie hasn't he?... he should've been made the new camp captain instead of Paul for sure... his rebellion under Warnie's captaincy was brewing all the time from what I saw lol!... he really does seem to be a 'gentle giant' too alongside Paul Harrigan as far as I'm concerned... I love your line there about... "being boring isn't a crime, it just doesn't make for good television"... that so sums up a lot of people in these types of shows for sure lol!... can I steal that in the future if needed?... lol!... that is such a great quote ... cheers.

...I wouldn't be too upset if Warnie went now either... I must admit... I never ever liked the guy until he came onto this show... I don't watch or follow Cricket so I've only really got to know him through all those bad headlines all the time... so yeah... he's been a revelation to me on what type of person that he really is and I think that he came onto this show the public just that... that he has problems and issues just like the rest of us regardless of what wealth he has... he did himself a big favour coming onto this show but he really does need to go now methinks too... cheers.

Are there going to be intruders this year? Because about now I think they are needing them.

I don't like Alex whatsy's style - I think we got more footage of substance last year, with Peter Abbott, and better storylines to follow. Maybe a lot of that was down to Joel Creasey and Chrissie Swan whispering and laughing behind people's backs, in their bunks at night, etc - but there just seemed to be a more extended and intimate vision of the camp at dinner time also, with Julie Goodwin cooking, and lots of funny and heart-warming moments. This lot (Fev and the Chief aside) seem to be stiffer, more self-aware, and to be playing to the cameras a lot of the time.

Brendon Fevola is a bit of a story of redemption and rebuilding his public image.

He literally pissed away his football and TV career, gambled away all his money, was unfaithful to his wife and attempted or talked about suicide leading him to rehab.

Dare I say it, for those who watched Celebrity BBUK this year he is the Darren Day. Main thing is that he has his life in order and it does look as though he is doing ok.

I agree with you @Melore apart from the tucker trials and small snippets of camp, dinner the odd bit of bitching on the bridge we see more of Julia and Dr Chris than any real meat and potatoes of the celebs and camp life.

I'm doing a lot a channel switching during the show to MKR .

Yes! I never thought I'd see the day but he actually seems really nice, for all the reasons you have stated. I think I actually like him! And apparently his eldest daughter is actually his step daughter, to have fully embraced her as his own in itself shows great character.

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on this forum, but I feel like we can safely question every thing Warnie says after he denied facial modifications! Men can get botox and fillers and look subtle, i think his injector treated his face like a woman!

The fastest way to solve that problem is just to line four people up, one for each digit with their instruction of 1 plus laurina or double val or whatever and substitute through.
