If WE were the Producers of Big Brother next year… what would WE do to make the show better?…

…I’d like to put all the Producers of Big Brother / I’m a Celebrity get me out of here / Survivor / Farmer wants a fuck and all the other ‘Reality’ shows put on the show to show them how debasing / humiliating / soul draining it is to be in the house with their (mostly) stupid childish tasks / fake ‘showmances’ and favouritisms towards certain favourite housemates… to feel for themselves how awful they feel when being so badly manipulated just for stupid ratings…

…when we first heard that Big Brother was coming back to Channel 10 it was as if the Pearly Gates of Heaven had opened up and that our once cherished show had done the full circle and returned home to it’s original maker… thank God!…

…”thank fuck it’s coming back to Channel 10…they’ll give us back our favourite show back of how it SHOULD be!”…

…”it’s going to be a trip down memory lane… I can’t wait!”…

…”they’re going back to their origins!… they will make the show great again!”…

…”who is going to be the host?… ANYONE besides that racist wooden dummy Sonia Kruger!… what was that?… it’s going to be Mel Tracina?…. I LOVE her!… she will be great!”…

…as it turned out… Mel Tracina is the one redeeming feature of this season… the greatest discovery Channel 10 has ever had… she’s PERFECT fof the job… the fact that when she’s on the ‘Cheap Seats’ reporting on nothing but all of the ‘REALITY’ shows and the abundant exuberance that she shows towards the shows she loves makes her the perfect host for Big Brother…

…as I’ve said before… “keep Mel Tracina and utilise her talents at every opportunity… she needs to be used to her full potential as the perfect host”… they are not using her to her best potential… she is more than capable to do so much more better things… she doesn’t get enough air time… she should be the ‘glue’ that holds the whole show together… in the immortal words of Tim… “DO YOU HEAR THAT TULLY CHANNEL 10?”

…seriously Channel 10 trolls… if you’re actually bothering to read any of these threads… please take note of the things these people are saying and the Poll above and take to heart what these brilliant posters above are saying… they know their stuff… they are your avid fans… they know better… LISTEN TO THEM!… if you don’t… Big Brother will sink faster than the Titanic and all of the Russian ships in the Black Sea together… it’s your move… cheers.

I literally have zero excitement for another season next year. I'm over it. I wouldn't be surprised if things were just repeated the same next year: the 4-week season, showmances, the favouritism, Dreamworld riders talking to the housemates etc. The housemates were itching to leave after week 1. How could Week 3 have all the life sucked out of it already? This is Week 3! Ridiculous.

The only thing I am looking forward to next year is the reboot of The Traitors with Gretel hosting. I love Gretel to bits. She always delivers.

Anyway, as I said, I am over Big Brother. At least I won't be wasting my time waiting all year being excited about something that is not going to deliver like I did this year.

My theory is

Jan - I’m a Celeb
Feb-May - Survivor Au
June-Aug - Big Brother
Oct-Nov - Traitors

TV Black Box has said BBAU17 won’t be summer filler which means it likely is the Q2 show after Survivor and Traitors will be the Q4 ratings fighter for 10.

Traitors can run at the same time as either Survivor or TAR. as all three only run over 1 - 3 nights a week
MasterChef and BB both run over 5/ 6 nights.
I think BB will be at the same time just start in October or maybe late September.

More likely to be:
mid-Jan: I'm a Celeb
Feb: Survivor AU
mid-Apr: The Traitors
mid-May: Masterchef
mid-Aug: Amazing Race
Oct/Nov: Big Brother

I'd say the earliest they might bring BB to the table is immediately after Masterchef but can't see it returning t it's April slot. It's done well but not well enough to bump Masterchef.

As most of us have said all along they really should have held BB over to February and then pushed Survivor back to mid-year but 10 will do everything they can to prioritise Survivor next year to try and not make axing JLP look like the worst decision i the history of TV.

some here kept trotting out the conspiracy theory narrative

Lack of transparency is not a conspiracy theory and the fact that a lack of transparency gives the production room to manipulate things isn't a conspiracy theory either.

Thinking that people here are convinced that they've held Michael at gunpoint and that they wouldn't accept any other explanation is a conspiracy theory though.

Lack of transparency is not a conspiracy theory
Of course not. That’s been evident throughout the series.

…and the fact that a lack of transparency gives the production room to manipulate things isn't a conspiracy theory either.
Unless there’s irrefutable proof of that happening, that is a conspiracy theory.

There were people in the live thread who after Michael’s HoH nomination video was posted still didn’t think he actually selected Holly.

Re-read what I've said: "the fact that a lack of transparency gives the production room to manipulate things isn't a conspiracy theory either". This sentence needs to be wrong so that it can even be considered to be a conspiracy theory. So where is your proof that this sentence is wrong?

There is none. Lack of transparency gives the production room to manipulate things. That's a fact. Some stuff that people speculate about might not be true, but it doesn't negate the sentence that "It's not a conspiracy theory to say that lack of transparency gives the production room to manipulate things." That fact is still a fact.

It's even a fact when the manipulation indeed didn't happen. If I would make a poll here "You decide. Should I have pussy or dick tonight?" and not show any results whatsoever, it gives me room to manipulate things. That's a fact. When people vote for dick and I happily accept that result, I wouldn't have to manipulate things in my favor. But it's still a fact that I had the room to do so.

We know - both for Big Brother and other reality shows - that these things generally happen. So if we point out that there is a vacuum were these things can happen, we don't need irrefutable proof for that. Where is your irrefutable proof that it cannot happen?

There were people in the live thread who after Michael’s HoH nomination video was posted still didn’t think he actually selected Holly.

When people say "they think", it doesn't mean "I'm 100% convinced that this is exactly how things happened and nobody can convince me otherwise". It means that there is a lack transparency. In this case specifically, it didn't show the moment when Michael was briefed. This opens the possibility that he got additional instructions or leading questions. How is this video proof that none of this happened? It's not, because that part is missing.

And I still stand by my point: I don't think you'll find any person that will post here and say "Yes, I fully believe that Michael was told to pick Holly and I will not accept any other explanation." You'll only find people who say "We didn't see what they asked Michael. So it's possible that they've done this or that."

I would get new producers.

I said it in a different thread, but might fit in here as well: The show might benefit from producers that do not have previous experience with reality tv at all. None of the people that launched Big Brother - be it in the Netherlands or Australia - had experience with this genre. The closest you might get is John de Mol doing "All you need is love". But a lot of the people that made and defined Big Borther in the 00s had a background in news, factual or documentaries.

I think hiring somebody from that pool would not only help to avoid the MAFS trap that the current team has walked into, but it could also provide a new take on the show in general. MAFS producers might perfect a backdoor eviction, but they won't give us a "round house/square house" twist that takes the show to the next level.

I completely forgot about Masterchef and TAR, unless they double stack Traitors and M/chef?
Sun-Tue: Traitors
Wed-Fri: MasterChef?

What I could think would be "wise" as well, is if they turned Big Brother back to be a 30-minute daily show format, and run the show concurrently with one of the main reality shows. (which might not happen, I don't know.)

So 7:00-7:30 Big Brother, and 7:30 would be any of those. Then, reserving Sundays and Mondays for evictions and nominations respectively. (or even also Friday for those who are craving for FNL.)

Agreed but we’ve seen pretty consistently this year they can’t even coherently edit a 60 minute daily show, let alone a 30 minute one.

Man there are some good points and thoughts in this thread. I agree pretty much with them all.

Things I remember from former series of BBAU that made the show really appeal to me ...

  • Host giving a full house tour before any housemates went in.
  • Cameras being hidden in walls and in camera-runs. HMs didn't know where the cameras were and quickly forgot they were being filmed, let alone being able to look straight in to a camera.
  • Being shown a brief housemate intro video for each housemate, one at a time.
  • The new housemates arriving, one-by-one in cars, and being properly interviewed before they entered the house.
  • The house being far away from all outside contact.
  • BB having rules ... no electronics, no contact with outside world and BB being strict on those rules ... taking money away from the prize pool for rule breaches or some form of punishment.
  • The large BB stage and massive audiences with the elevated housemate platform run that each housemate walked down high-fiving the audience when they were evicted. And it had a roof!
  • Housemates not being allowed to just sleep all day but instead having to fill in their own time. This lead to good conversations, sessions in the gym or spa, games being invented with rocks and sticks or whatever ... ie, good content.
  • Proper time spent on live-crosses to the house.
  • Proper nominations and proper evictions. BB being strict on nomination reasons. No bullcrap evicitons in the middle of Christmas songs or letters from home. Nominate on, say, Thursday night's show and evict on Sunday night's show. And do this each and every week, consistantly, until only two or three housemates remain.
  • No nominations talk amongst housemates allowed. Period.
  • Voting charts shown to the public, during the week in TV ads, on the offical web page, and on shows such as "Up Late" ... and on the night of the eviction show before voting lines closed. Seeing them during the week, and seeing dynamically changing during that week and on the night of the eviction show, helped to remove any thoughts that it was rigged.
  • Proper time spent interviewing evictees on a couch.
  • Showing the evictee videos of "your time in the house" and "who nominated you or voted for you". Seeing their reactions to these was often gold.
  • The evictee has no futher part to play with or in the house. None of this "choose the next HOH" kind of thing. The idea of the show is to see how the interactions and dynamics of the house change when people come and go ... and having evictees still interact with the house in some way does, in many ways, negate that.

Not to mention I did enjoy Friday Night games, Up Late and Uncut.

Intruders? ... I have never been a fan of intruders. They come in, and pretty much get voted out almost straight away. Only rare exceptions to this exist.

Other things of note for me ...

Sure, do some tasks to allow them to earn shopping money for food, but do not make those tasks the full and utter focus of the show. The tasks should take up hardly any time in the episode itself.

Do more "getting to know you" type tasks and 24 hour tasks. The fishing task on one of the seasons, where two contestants had to have a fishing line in the pool to "catch fish" was a great example of this ... they sat next to each other and talked about their everyday lives etc ... it was a great way for the viewing public, and themselves, to get to know them and each other. And, it was a 24 hour task, so the live feeds always had something going on.

I don’t have points to add. I just feel like they over promised and under delivered. It’d help to get people that were involved with the original series on board to guide. I’m not sure that happened this year. It started strong but got progressively worse as it went on. As an original fan I am very disappointed.

Fully agree! 💯
