Fascinating that you put this Tibetan tragedy in the same category as Jade's "life story". I defer to Drew who very wisely pointed out that there is little you can believe of what leaves Jade's mouth. I think she tries very hard to be relevant, interesting and deep. This news article does not depict the "horrors" of Jade's tragic upbringing in quite the same way..

This here kind of tells me why you think it was unfair..
Do you think if the roles were reversed, and it was jade and ed eating the food in front of Tim and Tahan, you would still feel the same

There's no longer a HM in there i don't like but i have to admit if it was Mikkayla in there eating the food id probably feel differently lol

Her relationship with food might have something to do with her poverty. I saw that article. I doubt a mum is going to admit what happened. I think they fell into financial trouble when her father left. Might have been idyllic before that but as a teen she was working to pay house bills.

It worked, I'm sold! I just have to wait and watch it elsewhere, YouTube is a mofo for me.
I've been watching nothing but foreign films lately, last one was the intouchables. Great film too, though was letdown by the casting choice after seeing the real people the movie was based on.

From my experience it's a pretty common defence mechanism for those who have self-esteem issues in a particular department. It's kind of like "If I call myself stupid first it takes away a bit of their power to hurt me when they say it". People do it all the time whether it's to do with intelligence, looks, financial position, etc.

I did it a lot a lot when I was at Uni. I know people looked down on me for working at a supermarket (while most of my non-college going friends had "proper jobs") so whenever anyone asked me what I did I would always talk myself down and say "oh just a check-out chick". Kinda like acknowledging "yes, I know that sucks" before they had a chance to judge you know?

Yeah, it was especially horrible when the bailiffs came around, and we didn't have a gran to go to, but we did have our great aunt living with the 10 of us.

Jade's sad tale doesn't ring very true I'm afraid. Mostly you don't want to talk about that kind of shit.
And her Mum sounds like a dipshit.
But can you update me - did she live here & in Italy? Who paid the fares?
 
Maybe if she put herself out there, she would get more coverage.
There is only so much footage of her lying about and talking about how great Ed is, that the general public can take.

I would be suspicious too but her character has been consistent. She hasn't done the poor me thing and she didn't in her piece. It was chillingly matter-of-fact.

The really compelling piece by Jade about how she grew up without enough food to eat sometimes and how she worked two jobs after school (until 11:30pm plus travel) to give her mother money. The most heartbreaking piece of television I have seen for a while I think because she was so matter of fact. She was just explaining why financial security is important.

Also, the way they implied the only thing that Ed admired about Jade was her two languages, juxtaposed with her saying he was effectively flawless. That sucked. They cut he referred to her hardship growing up and how she didn't expect anything due to her looks and worked hard for her career. He also said he admired her loyalty. it was really touching.

Total bias for the storyline but in my view they missed a better storyline. Stupid Alex.

Agree. They missed out all the real stuff from Ed and just put the last part about her talking another language and then made her look bad because of her gushing comments. Not to mention we never got shown anyone else's comments about the other housemates. So it looked like an out of no where comment from Ed about her talking Italian followed by Jade hopelessly gushing over Ed.

But I am sure that was just a mistake and not done on purpose to make Jade look a certain way. ;)

EXACTLY!!
We know that's not all she does, other wise how is it she has managed to form great friendships with so many in the house? She didn't spend all day loving Ed and doing nothing else and just so happened to be saved from nom, spoken highly of and gained the respect of so many. Its BB who picks what parts to show us and they pick the 'love sick' stuff over everything else.

I feel we really are watching two different shows. Granted she doesn't cry at the drop of a hat, but man does she ever bitch. Just like everyone else. So sick of her being put on this pedestal and held up as some paragon of virtue. She is just an ordinary girl with requisite flaws and insecurities. If you are going to worship her at least be honest enough to admit her flaws.
