Goals / Dreams

My short term goal at the moment is to lose 4kg. I also want to improve my knowledge in wound care, specifically vac dressings. I would love to do my RN's, but feel I have left my run regarding nursing too late. At this point in my life I just couldn't be fucked making the sacrifices needed. Another short term goal is decking our pool area and turning it into a magical flowered, fairy light ridden wonderland - you know when it happens, there will be pictures.

I am also trying to practice mindfulness in my day to day life, and it brings a lovely calming element with everything I do. I have also started a mindfulness journal, which I am enjoying. This fixation some people have of "always being myself...". We are always ourselves, and like colours we have many shades. Sadly some aspects of who we are can be snide, unlikable and bitter. Recognising our flaws and making changes to some of the more dysfunctional internal shades of colour shows strength and insight.

As far as my dreams, my greatest dream is for my son to live a long, happy, productive and fulfilled life.

...oh wow reepbot...I have managed to do those first 3 things within the last couple of years or so... I have written a book (for myself mainly) about a mythological creature that befriends a young child and am now doing a sequel to it... 12 people have read it and loved it... (8 of them were people that are more or less strangers to me and gave glowing reviews... one was a literary professor at a university believe it or not :wideyed:)...

...I went on my first ever cruise this time last year to Vanuatu/Isle of Pines etc... it was fantabulous and I highly recommend that you to do it one day... (it cleans out your cockles and feckles and cobwebs... complete strangers surrounding you so you don't have to talk to anybody if you wish or talk to everyone if you choose to do so)... it's great... we're going to do it again in another year or so...

...I've actually contributed a Dr Who/M C Esher photoshop artwork to an online Canadian Dr Who Magazine for their Dr Who 50th Anniversary edition in 2013... on this website... http://www.whotopia.ca/issues/download/2013 Summer Special.pdf ...my artwork is on page 38... and finally as with you... ALWAYS just be myself... so there you go reepbot... if I can do it I'm sure that you can my friend...

...my goals are to finally finish renovating the outside of my house (which is achievable on my timeline within the next 6 months) that I have been doing for the last 5 years... (then I can start on the inside lol!)... I want to finish the sequel to my first book... (chapter 1 is finished)... do another tandem parachute jump before or when I turn 65... do a vertical flight (inside a building above a giant fan) before or on my 65th Birthday... I intend to make my sweet darling beloved wife laugh at least once every day and finally not to bore people to death with my quite often overly long boring posts... (you've gotta have dreams haven't you?)... lol!... cheers.

Stuff I have tentatively scheduled for 2016:

- get a real job using one of my degrees (possibly to fund the rest of this list)
- purchase a home
- get married
- have, or at least make, a mini me. No, seriously, I really am planning that. I know, right?

It's gon' be a busy and expensive year.

I've recently contributed to a book on comic art techniques for 3dtotal.com I got paid $350 plus scored a pile of their back catalogue (see below) so all up about $1000 worth for an article that took me 40 minutes to write and a picture to colour which I would have done anyway for myself.

I've also written a similar article for this book

Which I did about 10 years ago now.

The 3dtotal book comes out in February and I get two free comp copies of that.

Is the book written in the same style you post on here? lots of dots and emphasis? I love reading your posts. Have you shopped your book around any publishers? Can I read it?

Well done on the book! I hope you do get it published some day. Or you could get it self published. That would be cool.

...hey bleachy... I read on the internet that you shouldn't try to get your book published until you have a second book almost written because if you just so happen to get it picked up by a publisher you aren't under immense pressure to write another quickly and it turns out rubbish because you did... so I'm hanging in there at the moment... the second book has only the first chapter at the moment I'm afraid... because I'm linking the second book as a sequel I've been tweaking both of them to be stories on their own but they have to have relevance and continuation between the two of them with the characters and past/future events in the storyline etc... when I've edited the first one fully until I'm satisfied with it I'll see what I can do my friend...

...the first book took just over a year to write because it was my first attempt at writing one... I only wrote it for me to read to get this story out of my system but when my darling wife read it she said that it was great... (she even cried in one part of the book in one of the sadder bits lol!)... when she urged me to let others read it I was a bit iffy about it because I was worried that people would think that it was crap... 11 people later and I've not had one negative review as of yet so it has encouraged me to start writing the sequel to it... (it may end up as a trilogy... it all depends upon which direction I go with it)...I asked each and every one of them if they have seen a movie or have read a book etc similar to it and they've all said 'no!" so I may be onto something with it methinks... (I was pretty happy about that actually)...

...just a little trivia... my younger brother is a tad bit illiterate and had never read a complete book until I told him that I was going to write one... he said... "if you write one I'll sit down and I'll read it... how's that for a deal?"... I wrote it and as promised... he read his first 'proper' book at 57 years old!... he was stoked and couldn't believe "how good it was!"... I was really chuffed that he liked it so much... he has since read 9 or 10 books up until now... he can't stop reading all of the time because my book opened up his mind to them... if my book achieves nothing else... that alone was my greatest reward for writing it in my mind's eye...

...the second one would've probably been halfway done by now but when I had my stroke in February this year it kind of went on the back burner until I sorted more important things out as you can understand lol!...

Well done on the book! I hope you do get it published some day. Or you could get it self published. That would be cool.

...I've looked at a few different options on getting it published just out of curiosity mainly (up to a point) because as I said reepbot...I only ever wrote it for myself... looking on... after those good reviews it gave me more encouragement to refine the book... hence the constant re-editing... those people that have read it were reading the rough draft copies because I printed the book out on my home printer and bound them myself to make 12 copies of the book... the only proviso of them being able to read it was that they all had to have a pencil and when they came across errors in continuity or whatever they had to circle those parts and make a note on the blank pages at the back as to which page they were on lol!... the funny thing is... there were no mistakes in the continuity at all... I was pretty thorough in my details and there were no loose story lines in the end lol!...

...the story had been milling around in my head since I was in my early 20's and I've waited until my 60's to write it lol!... what a waste!... imagine how many I could've written by now?... I just shake my head and wonder why it took me so long to do it... (lack of confidence comes to mind)... just remember... when you write something like that you are bearing your inner thoughts and ideas for everyone to see so it can be a bit daunting to let others see how your brain ticks over lol!... it's a very private thing when you write it... I just wrote it as if I was the only one that was ever going to read it so the story just flowed out and I didn't try to 'posh it up' therefore not worrying about what others thought of it at the time lol!... it sounded more 'me' at the time if you know what I mean...

...I have no idea how old you are reepbot but I do encourage you to write it as soon as the mood takes you ... don't waste 40 years and write it in your later years like I did lol!... it is such a fantastic feeling when you write... 'THE END'... on the last page... you feel cleansed lol!... between now and the day I die I intend to write at least 6 other stories that I have floating around in my head into books... I think everyone should have a go at writing one... if not a 325 page/136,000 word book like mine then perhaps just short stories instead... perhaps 4 or 5 short stories to make the one book maybe?...

...I've taken steps with copywriting it which means I've gone from just writing it for myself to perhaps actually trying to get it published eventually... so I've already taken the 'big step' so to speak... anyhow... time will tell I guess...

...jeez!... this reply to you two guys is almost a short novel in itself isn't it?... lol!... thanks for your interest in it bleachy/reepbot... much appreciated my friends... cheers.:)

...cool!... as I said reepbot... I was in my 20's when I had the story in my head... I should have written it way back then... if you feel inclined... when you write it... write it just for you... you can always refine it later as I am now doing... I found that because I was writing it just for me that I ended up being my harshest critic but I was so satisfied in the end because I knew that I gave it my all... writing your thoughts out to read makes you learn so much about yourself... it's like some some sort of self therapy... it 'cleanses' you in a way as I said before... it's such a great feeling!... so if you have a story in you... tell it!... lol!... cheers.

I want to write a book. I have tried many times but I get stuck. One day though...

It's so lovely reading this thread. Very inspirational & nice to read people's dreams & goals. Nice one @JordanS :)

...I'll be truthful with all of you... when I had decided to write my book I always waited until my sweet darling wife had gone to bed at around 10:00 each night before I stayed up until 3:00 am the next morning to write it... I was embarrassed to be writing it for some ridiculous reason... I was writing the 14th chapter... (there are 22 chapters all told)... before she finally said to me that... "you are up to something!... what are you doing each night when I go to sleep?"... (she probably thought that I was looking at Porn or something on the Internet lol!)... when I told her that I was writing a book she was so stoked!... (I stopped feeling embarrassed to be writing it anymore and felt kinda proud of myself for writing it from then onwards... (I became confident within myself because of her words of encouragement methinks)...

...I was going to write the whole thing and surprise her with it to read for me when I finished it and much to her credit she waited until I finished it quite a few months later before reading it... no asking me... "what happens in it?"... type of questions whatsoever... (she's good like that)... lol!... I have no idea why I felt embarrassed writing it because my sweet wife and I have never had secrets from each other so who knows?... I have great confidence in doing my artwork but none in my writing ability... perhaps I was so at ease because I do my artwork all of the time and was now venturing into something out of my comfort zone or something?... lol!... as I said... who knows eh?...

...I agree with you shaydee... good one JordanS... cheers.

I love this. What a really lovely story. Thanks for sharing @Mr Stickyfingers :)

It's that time of year again!

My goals for 2017 is to nurse in a new area, to spend time with family and friends, landscape my back yard, reprint the pool and to save 10k

I had some lofty goals for this year but I didn't achieve them all, I achieved the best one though!!

In 2017 I need to move to a bigger better home, I would like to buy a place but it's not really a possibility in Sydney so I will have to assess whether renting or relocating slightly out of Sydney proves best.

Beyond that my general goals are to spend time with my tiny boy and my other loved ones, take more photos, spend more time outdoors, drink more water and finally finish this ginormous box of protein powder that I've been sitting on all year.
