@Trala, sorry to hear about that, it sucks to be in that sort of position. I know the advice is generally to have a third person present so that things can't be twisted. I was once in a position where I really needed to talk with someone to clear the air at work and it ended up being better for us just to have a chat one-on-one, if that didn't work, I guess I would have had to bring in another person, fortunately we were able to clear the air and move forward in a healthier work relationship. So yeah, it worked for me. You need to do what you think is best.
Sometimes confronting some behaviours is a challenge, but is enough to force change. When someone thinks they are going basically unchecked by anyone they have no reason to change, when faced with the reality of the situation they either need to escalate it themselves or actually change their behaviour.
Sometimes... with some people.
I'm not sure anything can be done about the 'other' situation here
