Regarding nausea the speaker said it is the most overlooked symptom re palliative because we are so focused on controlling pain, position and poo. So I guess it is a good question to add when patient rounding, are you nauseous? I seriously had no idea hali can be used for nausea!

I will do a stint in palliative. I have nursed a couple on the ward but missed the actual death. I am anal about mouth cares. I hate a dry mouth!!!

Oh god yes! mouth care is a must. When i first did palliative care we did it 4 times a day, for those that were really bad more so, now unfortunately the workload is so bad that it prob gets done twice.

I share the same about being a dog lover - my first, and I am so sucked in!
Although, mine is still such a bitch towards me - it is an ongoing love/hate relationship (controlled by my feeding) LOL

Yes, Rosie. We changed her diet, and she seems to be going ok. Just have to make sure she doesnt eat certain foods. Its so hard not to give her what you are eating when she gives me the look! She is snoring atm

Do you mean prime the line before you start the pump? Yes you do that manually, but everything else, it calculates

The grasby pump was the one that we used a lot of, and then they fazed it out.

Dry mouth is ghastly. Any yucky mouth stuff freaked me out when I had to do patient clerical stuff on the wards. Dad, sorry to use his experiences but it's what I know of, is very particular with oral care. He however wasn't palliative and was self caring. Hasn't had a problem with mouth ulcers and the like at all. Biotene all the way and diligent teeth brushing. His nausea hasn't been too bad either, but it's there as an in the background presence but not a concern and he hasn't vomited at all. Do patients generally speaking talk down (for want of a better way of putting it) their nausea levels at all and go the stoic route or do they mention it often?
