Words aren't as commercial. I was disappointed that Terry Tao, a Chinese/Australian superbrain maths professor at UCLA, with an off the scale IQ, is a terrible computer programmer. He tried and he is really, really bad.

The sciences pay well while still being able to go to work in your pyjamas, if you are good. If words are your trade, you might have to deal with people or brush your hair.

Are you tempted to ask your psychologist 'what am I thinking now?'.

Must a psychologist be 'smarter' than the subject to understand them, or just more adjusted? Is their job to understand, or prescribe happiness?

No, I am not tempted to ask my psychologist that. Besides, no one can ever know what I'm thinking. These walls have ears, and everything is recorded. I am being watched. I trust nobody. They all want to kidnap me and put me in some kind of deep sleep while they replace me with a clone. I think my family members have been replaced by clones.

I thought the job of a psychologist is to help you work through any issues you have in your life?

The interesting part, to me, is that optimism is entirely irrational. I question whether a psychologist should appraise a situation objectively, or provide a positive slant. If a ship is sinking, would you want a pragmatic captain or an optimist?

Lucky for me I'm a pessimist. A psychologist should be objective. A pragmatic captain is better for a sinking ship.
