First is always the worst! Nothing wrong with being a perfectionist, Im the same, I have to remind myself that its a 24 hour job and Im only there for 1/3 of it sometimes, and I do get annoyed others don't have the same attitude and you playing catch up and cleaning their shit, drives me nuts, it sounds like overall you have a fantastic team, with some excellent support higher up! Are you public or private? I used to feel bad for partners of us nurses in social settings when sharing stories, we have 0 filter, the look on their faces when we talk about faeces is hilarious!

I really don't get this constant bashing we see of our health system. I am seriously left in awe at the high level of care, accountability and transparency we see in the wards. For example my mistake meant going to my CN and telling her, fixing the error to get the meds to the patients ASAP. Three individual Primes, documentation in nursing notes and informing patients of my error. While I understand my mistake was minor on the scale of things, I did like the no blame, what could you do better? How can we stop this happening again attitude. The only thing I felt sad about, the NUM involved the RN in my mistake given that she is ultimately responsible for my fuck ups, my RN just assumed I did them with another RN. I felt quite awful about that, and spoke to my NUM accepting full responsibility. From my fuck up they have changed the rules that the EN can only due S8's with their designated RN's to help stop assumptions and to help this mistake not happening again.
Like any good team we have that certain amount of dead weight. I love gossip so I don't mind the dead weight at all.
Mistakes happen in the wards, we are human and where you have humans you have mistakes. But on the whole I would trust our multidisciplinary health care team with my health any day. I think the Australian health system rocks!
