What if you are gender non conforming - what pricing do you go with? What if you are a male with really long hair - is it still the standard male price? Pricing this complicated and inconsistent is one of the many reasons I now cut my own hair - I got so sick of never knowing how much I was going to be charged on the day to get the same thing done.
I had a client years ago who was transitioning from male to female, and wanted to be treated and charged as a female even when s/he was still very much male.
Prices in the hair industry are crazy. As a "seat renter" I set my own prices, and when I see what the rest of the salon is charging, it's unbelievable.
When I was off a couple of years ago when I had my eye surgery, a couple of my clients asked me to recommend who to go to in the salon. I told them to look on the salon website as the girls all had their profiles on it, and choose who you like the sound of. They are all younger than me, and don't work like me, so I had no idea who they should go to.
They all called me and said, I'm not paying that!
A couple who "chanced it" without checking the prices where shocked when it came to the bill. They paid $100 more than what I charge them for, for their Colour, cut and blow-dry.
That is why my clients can afford to come every 3, 4, 5 or 6 weeks. Their clients come every three months!
