Frocks, Frolics and Fotos

On the topic of the Olsen twins. What's your verdict on their first wedding dress? It's not the most form fitting but that's their style. I don't mind it.

It's very them. As kxk described them, there's the bag lady or nun look that I can see, the boho look is evident in the design of the sleeves. I like it.

Love the veil

I actually love the twins outfits here! And their hair is gorgeous. I'm not that fond of the bridal gown itself. It just looks a bit... stiff? It looks like it would make me very hot and sweaty. Which should come later on the wedding day!

If you're interested in the history of fashions of the 17th and 18th centuries such as how they did the big hairstyles, general hygiene, clothes and overall way of life, with a focus on women, then I came across this blog

Makes for interesting reading and my wife is enjoying it as well. Especially look out for the link about "Flora's Toilet" in the "big hair" blog entries (it's about perfumes and general skin care, not about taking a dump...) as she describes the recipes for natural skin care and toiletries used in some detail.

Wow! That's fascinating stuff, SeanE. I'll be able to waste time now and actually be learning something!

One of my favourite hobbies, how fashions evolve, how world events effect fashion, and all that.

Like heels, high heels. In most places evolved to avoid the muck.
And how they wore wigs to hide the pox hair loss.
And how they poisoned themselves with lead make-up - generally to hid the pox or other disease.

And how fashion/human decoration/style is everywhere in every tribe.

And I forever wonder what pioneering women wore in the outback heat - surely out by your self, roasting, they would have ditched all those dumb petticoats/corsets/stockings etc. And just farmed in your chemise or something?

My immediate thought was 'wanker!'. But then I remembered he's just a kid; just a very rich, famous kid who, sadly for him, will have every mistake and youthful excess seen and mocked around the world, a la Justin Beiber. So, poor kid, despite his wealth.

I've always wondered the same thing! The way women dressed back then would have been fine in Europe, but so impractical when it's 40+ and you have to do hard, physical work.

This poor woman in Frederick McCubbin's piece looks exhausted.

Well at least we don't have to see the stupid perpetually worried look on his face that he always has...

...Dawn is downright gorgeous!... I've always thought of her as beautiful no matter which end of the scale she is at the time... you're right hoolydooley... she is looking good!... I would so love to meet her one day and give her a massive hug... a lovely woman indeed! :inlove:... cheers.

I love to hear about her. Her friendship with Jennifer Saunders and their life etc seems like another story out of this world!

Smile and the World smiles with you ;)
