Finale Alert! Happening 8 December

I'm genuinely pissed off by this announcement. It's just another example of a bait and switch. It was never going to be extended over 4 weeks. The dates were set when the advertised jobs came out. It was just a PR spin that the show was going to go longer. Just be upfront about it for god's sake.

It has really undelivered with what was promised. I just see the same thing being repeated next year. I'm so tired. Why couldn't we have had something inspired by the original Channel Ten seasons? What happened to Event TV with the Eviction shows? Even Channel Nine did a better job with them. We at least got a decent interview and highlights packages. This is like the last chance Big Brother had in Australia, and they had lots of goodwill towards it but messed it up. The cast has been poor. Too much time on Showmances. Big Brother has not been badder and bolder. I expected more, and it feels like I have just got to accept Big Brother Australia will never be what it once was. No matter what is promised, it's just never going to happen.

Sad realisation, but also a reality.

I believe they tried to cater for the OG fans (10) but also cater for the new (7... and even 9 era) fans, and the result is this 7/9 hybrid... which to me is frankly shit. I've been to a couple of the live shows and they are NOTHING compared to the 10 era, the 9 era was even more energetic.

The issue is, the viewership and engagement, is actually really good, so they're going to stick to this formula moving forward...

So, I'm not mega fan of the entire series run of Big Brother, but I wonder if the prize money has a lot to do with the length of this run.

$100,000- $150,000 or what ever the prize money is, is NOT a lot of money for the amount of hours the cast are putting in. If they put in this much time on the mines (for example), they would probably make more.

I am just throwing this thought out there, as pay and conditions are definitely a bigger factor in a 2025 show than earlier years.

Personally, I dont mind a short season because I have gone hard core into the live stream and I would be fatigued by too much more. It is still possible it could leave me wanting more.

In a way, I'm not too sad by this announcement, only because for the past couple of days I'd been considering just switching off, because there is very little, if anything at all, that I like about this series. Now that I know the end date, I'm willing to put up with it for another two weeks just to see it through. No, I'm not going to be happy with the winner (I think it's blatantly obvious who the producers have in mind for this), but it is what it is, unfortunately.

It seems we'll be getting at least another series next year. I think i'll give it a week at most, and if it's more of this same bullshit, I'll be switching off, and I'll get my fix by watching the old Channel Ten series and the Channel 4 era BBUK series. The reality TV formula of the 2020s clearly isn't my thing, and I think I can learn to accept that.

And I think the expectations for the show wouldn't have been as high if they didn't specifically market this season as going back to how the OG version was.

I feel that's where the majority of the disappointment stems from.

And, once again, clarifying for everybody's sake in case someone attempts to be snarky... we do not mean OG = 2001, we mean OG = the format and style of the general Ten era 2001-2008 as a whole. This is NOTHING like it, not even the live shows. The closest thing to OG is the live streams. As far as the actual show and broadcast episodes go, the Nine era was far more "OG" and faithful to the original Ten era than this current revival.

This! Watch a Daily Show from any of the 10 era seasons compared to this and you'll be like wtf happened?

To be honest, I was appalled on opening night after the cast were all revealed. I just couldn't believe it. But I told myself, not to worry, some really interesting intruders would come in and shake things up. Not to be, now. Little did I know the horror that lay ahead, though.

Well one plus out of this whole thing was that we got good quality versions of Channel Ten BBAU available on Youtube.
Good point! I appreciate this type of positivity and silver lining. This is 100% true, and something many of us are very grateful for.

Not even "just" good quality versions. The original masters and, in select cases, episodes that are uncensored from the broadcast versions. I, for one, certainly never thought we'd see the day.

Maybe the house is at the point it falling apart quicker than they thought and with OHS they can only keep it up a couple more weeks hahah

I mean the whole backyard walls and decking are warping, the Astroturf is splitting, the washing machines are about to explode.

Oh and the cameras probably need to be returned to the rental place… Plus Pete probably is busy with Christmas bookings with his events company.

Overall it’s a shame but I’m not sad of the finale date. The ratings will only dip further and it’ll look better if they wrap it up earlier.

Hopefully a longer series next year and less.. TEMU style

Keep in mind that the network, not the producers, determine the finale date. Just speculating, but if I were Ten, I'd be setting an early end date too - to limit the negative brand exposure.

They've got their data from this experiment. They know what works and what doesn't. It's best that they retreat, reassess their creative brief to Endemol, build their budgets, and plan for 2026.
