Just about to say this. Let's face it, out of the current followers of religions worldwide no other followers surpass the medieval mindset that pervades far too many Muslims. Not Buddhists, not Hindus etc... so let's not stick our heads in the sand and pretend that Islam isn't a big part of the problem/reason atrocities are committed by many of its practitioners on a daily basis around the world.

The less Islam is encouraged and welcomed in secular Western society, the better off everybody will be. Islam simply isn't compatible with Western democratic values.

Perhaps Drew just finds it offensive, as many Australians do. Why shouldn't he comment? Being on BB does not mean that every comment on SM is an attention grab. Frankly, if it does bring attention to a racist a-hole like Matt, then good!

Well, let's just leave it at my hoping he'll start showing more of that side of himself again, because I do miss it. I think he's right, without question, and you're right that silence is never the answer, but the "hey, Twitter, look what Matt did" doesn't scan as altogether heroic to me, and I hope there's more to it than that.

Oh please. What's he going to do...suggest a fist fight? That way Matt wins. On the other hand, if it's a discussion Drew knocks out Matt. 140 characters is about as articulate as he gets.

I agree but trying to prevent a mosque from being built won't do anything. The main problem is that way too many people don't understand that ideas and religions don't (or shouldn't) have rights. We can respect people without respecting their beliefs.

Atheists/agnostics regularly ridicule a decreasing number of Christians (many who are not exactly devout followers) for 'imposing' their spaguetti monster on an enlightened secular civilized society that Australia is and accuse them of being an irritating obstacle for 'progress'. Even though they're obnoxious and rude about it they're entitled to hold that opinion.

Yet so many excuses are made for Islam (mostly by misguided leftists who mean well) simply because it is a non-Anglo/European/white faith when in fact it is far more backward than any other religion (Buddhism, Hinduism etc...) currently practiced on earth at this moment in history.

Misogyny, homophobia etc... is far more prevalent in Islam than any other faith, you only have too look at the Middle East to confirm that. So just as some leftists aren't apologetic for having disdain for Christianity and criticizing it's 'shortcomings' I won't apologise for frowning upon Islam because of the terrifying backwardness it promotes and the real danger too many of their faithful followers can end up posing in their adopted countries.

I don't see Hindus, Buddhists etc.. in Asia and India lopping off heads, bombing places on behalf of their respective religions with frequently regularity so I think its time we stopped pretending Islam in'st a large contributor to that senseless violence.

I wouldn't have a problem with Matt's position if he felt the same way when a new church or synagogue is being opened. But I suspect that's not the case.

As for him being ignorant- it could very well be that his knowledge of muslims is strongly informed by his time in the army fighting islamofascists. If all you see are the bad guys then what do you expect?
