Yeah the editing is something which is debatable. People want raw, but production also think that audiences today want to be nanny fed and need to be entertained, so the stockpile for the final edit is more than likely based upon what they cannot ignore, the things that they cannot supress that might bubble to the surface - eg. Holly & Colin relationship dramas, Holly talking about Allana behind her back - these core things that will affect relationships in the house are things they can't ignore. Then there's the produced side of the show - the tasks and how the tasks affect the housemates and things related to what building materials they have put expense into. It's a load off (savings on) editing time to show the housemates stretching for 10 minutes and telling us 'its a new day'.
But this season, we have the live footage (for what it's worth, and what we're able to get out of it - only one camera feed for us which is frequently muted and half the time it's watching the fishbowl). Still, this is WAAAY better than we have had in years. Just this novelty is making this season so cool for me. Give us a second camera and I'll be cheering big time. This forum + live feeds + daily shows 6 days a week is a great step forward.
An official diary and more raw footage added to the daily shows, and special features like psychologists (what happened to Carmel!) would take it to next level. The mix of cast needs more thought from the agents - a good casting agent knows what mix of characters is going to make the show great. I feel like that is missing this year - while most of them are pretty good on TV, able to talk and have some personality quirks, they are still rather mundane, and the mix is lukewarm at best. Hardly any of us (if anyone!) has publicly admitted, that "this housemate is my man / gal!!".
My hope is that they will get excited behind successes this year and bounding with ideas on what they could do to make this a much more fun experience next year.
