I have a habit of bringing everything back to BBUK, but anyway...

Despite also being more over-produced than it used to be, BBUK still manages to use the original BB formula in 2025, span generational interest and have 3-4+ storylines per daily show with the same episode runtime as BBAU.

It really is shocking when you compare how much can happen in an hour long BBUK episode vs. BBAU where half the show is Coco being asked by a tired sounding Big Brother if she will let Bruce fuck her.

I think it's a skill issue with the Aus TV industry.... they don't want to make anything other than MAFS clones, and they probably no longer know how to anyway.

(Btw.... The Block is a MAFS clone where they just build a house on the side)

And another thing... 🤠... tonight's episode for me showed they aren't interested in creating a Big Brother where you get to know the housemates and you feel like you're part of the house. When people say they want OG Big Brother that's usually what they mean... having that parasocial bond with the housemates (before we knew what parasocial bonds were).

Instead, the BB they're creating is a show where the viewer is pushed to pick sides among HMs who are only hooking up or at war with each other. There's been very little footage of the HMs doing anything in between these extremes.

The trajectory of the TV episodes so far has been:
  1. Michael vs. Mia
  2. Bruce vs. Mia
  3. Jane vs. woke HMs
  4. Mia wants to hook up with Ed
  5. Colin hooks up with Holly
  6. Entire house vs. Holly
  7. Bruce hooks up with Coco
  8. Jane vs. Boys
  9. Bruce vs. Jane
Every major story arc is housemates fighting or sucking face. That's all the show has been capable of including.

As per my post above - this is a skill issue. The producers don't know how to make a show outside of only this type of footage.

I vaguely remember the friday night live era. I was pretty young at the time too so I never really watched the show "properly" when channel 10 did it.

I don't think it's a skill issue at all. It's all to do with the fact that MAFS is the most watched reality program by a country mile because of how 'drama' packed it is. As such, reality producers know that Australian audiences want drama-filled reality programs and (for better or worse) respond accordingly to that.

It's still a skill issue because:
  1. You can still have drama on BB along with other types of storylines
  2. No one in the Aus TV industry has the creativity or will to try new things. What's left of the industry is really only making MAFS clones. If you want to make something else, you end up going overseas to further your career.

The funny thing is though... lots of UK folks on Twitter point towards Australia and say how that's the OG format and that ITV should take inspiration from Australia.
