For me, as the ultimate Big Brother superfan, I'm just chuffed the show has taken on the feedback from fans and stayed far away from the Channel Seven format. This version was based on the US franchise which was super competitive, sacrificing showcasing the personalities of the housemates for strategy chats and gruelling physical challenges.
It was basically Survivor but in a house. No thanks.
The 2025 reboot of Big Brother has taken the best parts of what Ten did so well — the stripped-back episodes narrated by Mike Goldman focus solely on the social side of the house, along with the silly challenges or tasks, like making the week's nominees dress as sad clowns.
It never ceases to blow my mind when self-proclaimed "ultimate super fans" continue to salivate over how good and true to its roots this reboot is. I've had to stop reading BBAU on Reddit because of this. Any super fan knows that this reboot is omitting much of what actually made the original run good and we're being served a pretty washed out and dumbed down iteration of what once was. This is not a
good modernised version of OG Big Brother. This sort of feedback will only encourage Ten to produce another similar iteration of what currently is without actually making an effort to make improvements and return to the shows roots with a modern twist.
From my point of view, this reboot is more or less a repackaged 7 format (sans the
Survivor element) disguised as OG when it comes to how the show is being edited, intentionally directed and portraying certain housemates, like mulletman. Channel 9 did a better version than Ten are currently airing, and I'll admit that cutting the live feed didn't do 9 any favours, whereas it does bode well for Ten currently. Channel 9 stayed more true to the original.
I also beg to differ that Ten have adopted the "best parts" of what they originally did. If anything, Ten are leaving out the best parts of the original. We are not currently seeing the raw reality of what's happening in the house, unless you're an avid live feed viewer.
I'm not going to go on another rant about how lackluster many parts of this reboot are, but I find it highly misleading that a "superfan" - such as the author of this article - are lauding Ten and ESA for their return to OG, knowing full well that a majority of the audience and their readers seeking Big Brother content were likely too young or were not even born when the glory days of Big Brother was on TV.
I will credit the author for briefly pointing out something that is actually a major issue, albeit briefly, but continuing to blow smoke up Ten's asshole almost renders the article pointless.
