David Appreciation Thread

The "I let's them tear strips off me" comment is the clear sign of a pacifist in my opinion. I honestly think he doesn't want to be involved in these blow-ups, they seem to come to him, mainly because he has a snark, a dry sarcastic wit, and sometimes lacks a filter. One thing that works to his advantage is the ability to discuss issues in an adult manner without making things personal or losing his cool.

It's interesting watching him, he seems to launch into opinionated talk quite often with very little prompting. He's craving a confidante. Sometimes I will him to close his mouth just for a second. He's revealing a little too much of his opinions, his strategy, his way of thinking at times. It's making him a target, but he's clearly chosen to play the game this way.
I guess it's Strategy Davids way of letting the viewers and HM's know part of what he's thinking and exposing other HM's plans, and that it might encourage viewers to vote for him( if they see it as big moves and not playing too safe) or HM's to nominate others, if they were now thinking the same way?

A lot of his Strategy talk is when they are already having discussions about those topics (BB scripted Q's), he's in the Hotseat or asked his opinion by BB or other HM's...

it's possible David's also trying to implement some of the advice Tim gave him about in the Sanctuary? that he has to make bold moves, and not try let the others get the better of him when they are shutting him out or trying to bring him or others down , as part of their own game play...

Lots of David today. I really love how the new kids have taken to him, and I love that he and Ryan have some new people to chat with. I know some think he's kissing up to the new additions, but I honestly think he's genuinely happy to have new company, and I also think because of how the housemates have treated him, he's going out of his way to make them feel welcomed. It's also good to know that he is giving and not just taking. I thought it was interesting to hear he and Skye go back and forth and he and Priya do too. Speaking of, I have no issue with Dave's role in the Priya situation. She's talked about him, so as far as I'm concerned she's fair game. But, I'm glad they talked, alone, and settled the issue, or so I thought. lol.
Now, all of that was good, however, the comment about women wasn't. That was unfortunate, and unnecessary and I think Dave does say things to try to impress guys and that will continue to get him in trouble. From me, that comes from an insecure place. I just don't know if it's him in general or something to do with the house. He has to watch his mouth though. He might say something he won't be able to come back from, and that wouldn't be good.

The only reason Priya is pissed is because she knows David has her number...but all of the original housemates just dismiss him...so she hasn't felt threatened to his exposure of her until now. The new housemates are listening to his truth bombs, though...and that is what has Priya panicked. She doesn't give a fig about the teasing...she is pissed that he made her look defensive to the new housemates. Which is funny...cause she only proved his joking to be true when she got extremely defensive about it. But hey, if that is how she feels...then she has the right to say something. But she gave it back just as hard and then justifies it by saying, "even though we both are guilty...you are in the wrong and I am in the right because you started it". She is just twisting the situation to make herself look like the victim and David the bad guy...so that his opinions will once again be dismissed and no longer a threat to herself. Notice how her focus turned to Richard...when she failed to manipulate him into guilt. She will now target him as well...because she can't control him.

Completely agree. And, I forgot about the moment she said she is doing it back, but it was okay because he did it first. That did make me roll my eyes. I can't lie. That was a very childish response, and I was very surprised she went there. I think you could be right, she doesn't like that David seems to be making a good impression with the new housemates. Very good observations. The thing with Richard was funny. I like that the new people are coming in without a care about all the roles established in the house, or the relationships. She is probably used to everyone reacting to her one way, and Richard certainly did not.

Just How Did David Go from Awkward Underdog to Confident Alpha?

“You’re like a tadpole that’s transformed into a dinosaur!”

Thus was Skye’s fascinating analogy for the personal growth David has undergone during his time in the House.

From offending Housemates in the early weeks with his weird sense of humour, to finding a powerful foothold among the new Neighbours, David’s rise from awkward outsider to power player is simply (pre)historic.

When David was but a tiny tadpole swimming in the House Pool, his rude quips and offbeat jokes had him facing extinction more than once.

But the Big Brother game demands survival of the fittest, and all it took was a few firm words and a little gentle guidance for David to evolve. With the arrival of the Neighbours, it’s time to herald a new era in David’s history!

In the game of ‘getting-to-know-you’, David has emerged as the alpha species upon which the success or failure of the newbies depends.

After their first night in the House, Neighbours were quick to identify David as a key contact, and with this in mind they invited him to the Sanctuary for a special breakfast.

Plying him with pastries, they grilled him on strategy and gobbled up his advice about whom to trust and whom to trash.

Perhaps this new found confidence can be tracked back to Lina, who has shown a keen interest in the oft-dismissed opinions of ‘Strategy Dave’. She’s taken time out to listen to his life story and lend sympathy to his struggles to be heard in a rowdy House.

And it’s buttered him up good and proper!

But there are always consequences to ditching your old friends for shiny new ones, and David’s inflated confidence with the new boys got this evolving tadpole into hot water with Priya.

When he made fun of her defensiveness by rousing the new boys into a chant of “defense, defense, defense” at her, Priya’s displeasure was tyrannical.

But dinosaur David is a new, improved and more mature species than the outsider who used to put everyone offside. Publicly and in front of Priya, he admitted to the new boys that his comments had been thoughtless.

So how did he take that tadpole-to-dinosaur analogy, anyway?

“That’s a good one!” he told Skye, but added, “You’ve been hanging out with your boyfriend – with Leo – too long,” explaining that she had developed a knack for metaphor from her other half.

Skye was confused and couldn’t see the connection. “I think he’s really different with you than he is with me,” she mused.

“Well, he certainly doesn’t put his tongue down my throat,” David quipped.

Good one Dad. Um, sorry, David.

Their banter was fun. By then I was hoping BB kept the house separated forever. But, then, Lena asked David about how they talked to each other, and it made me think we missed something. I think something else was said, that wasn't shown, because Lena looked put off a bit.

Priya's had to school a few of the male Housemates on appropriate behaviour after David had a dig at her in the Pool.

What all started with the boys jokingly chanting "defence, defence, defence" following Priya correcting Travis, ended in a full-blown, sit-down discussion between Priya and David.

“These people are new,” she chastised him, explaining that David had no business influencing the newbies’ idea of her.

“They don’t even know that I defend every time. But right now they believed what you said and went on with it,” she said.

David apologised first, but stood his ground. “Not everything is a personal dig,” he said. “I understand that people take jokes differently.”

He did agree to chat with Priya to Travis, Richard and Tom to bring the issue out into the open.

I noticed others girls in the pool with Priya there as well and they seeme dot be all laughi ...I think Priya really only got upset after Tom was the rude with his comments, when he told her to keep her mouth shut, when him and Travis were defending David.

God help us. He still has that horror on his face.
He's Shavid again..I'm sure the goatee was just joking around because of those 'webchat' girls, and having a laugh with the other HM's

yeah I wondered what she meant as well...maybe she doesn't understand how the HM's like to tease each other at times?

For me, it looked like something happened that was more than just banter. Remember, she was able to see how they treat him, from the first time she was in the house. So, I think she would know the difference between fun banter and someone crossing the line, it felt to me like a line was crossed. We'll never know, but it did leave me curious. I believe they probably say things to David, they wouldn't dare say to anyone else because they are dismissive of him. I also think he probably takes more than he might, outside the house. So, I can see a new person, watching the dynamics, being put off a bit, especially because she already thinks they don't treat him too kindly. I hope they are able to forge a bond.

Are you kidding me? lol

Tom was just running with the joke, in no way was he actually being serious. You could tell from his tone and body language that he was taking the piss. Oh my goodness, the thing that come out Prizus' fans is getting too much for me. :hilarious:

I know it started to turn into ganging up territory when Tom jumped in but in the whole exchange he was the only one I felt sorry for out of the 5 of them. You could tell by his reaction when Priya was talking to them that he genuinely had no idea what had just happened or why he was getting lectured and never intend to offend her.

It's started by the same guy who started the Travis hate thread.

Lol at everyone thinking David is a racist.

I know right. And racist, misogynist, sexist ....... so ridiculous.

Then there's the suggestion he's ingratiating himself to the new housemates. How about, and I'll paraphrase here, relieved that for himself, Priya and Ryan they no longer have to feel like they are coming into couples conversations and space all the time. Tbh even the Strategy Dave thing is annoying. He's a thinker. That's it. And from what we were shown he was left to his own devices earlier on in the game. He puts his foot in it now and again and will continue to do so.

He is probably happy to have some new people to talk to and some actual mental stimulation.

I think there are many other housemates who are more strategic than David.

I swear anything he does, everyone is on the attack and labels him with something. Racist Dave, Sexist Dave, Strategy Dave oh and the most recent Virgin Dave just because he's not sleazing onto girls in the house.

I know. And I get it, but it's over. It's only a minority who are still chewing over this and being a little e x t r e m e ... :)

People are just pissed because it's turning into The Dave Show.

And it's happening because he is actually INTERESTING. For both good and bad reasons, at least David is giving people something to talk about. The only thing that annoys me are the people calling him misogynist and racist, because I just don't see it. A offhand comment about boobs, and an adult discussion about cultural differences just does not equate to those slanderous titles.
