Celebrity Big Brother summer 2018 bosses have revealed the new eye logo and teased an ‘Eye of the Storm’ theme – which will involve controversial housemates with “a lot to prove”.
Fans have been on tenterhooks for the past few weeks after Channel 5 delayed the show’s return to avoid clashing with ITV2’s Love Island.
But today, the broadcaster broke its silence with the first news about this summer’s run – confirming previous reports that it will begin with the Celebrity version.
The new series has an ‘Eye of the Storm’ theme linking the housemates, all of whom are said to have been involved in various public scandals.
“All of the celebrity names entering the house will have been caught up in their own media storm,” C5 said. “Now, the celebrities are once again putting themselves in the public eye and this time they have a lot to prove.”
Rumoured contestants include Samantha Markle, the half-sister of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Kieran Hayler, who recently separated from former CBB winner Katie Price.
The theme is reflected in the new eye logo, which features a colourful neon lighting design set among murky clouds, with a lightning symbol on each side.
The eye was revealed for the first time in a video teaser on the official @bbuk social media pages this morning.
It will make its first television appearance tonight at 5.40pm on Channel 5, kicking off the advertising campaign around a month in advance.
Meanwhile, bosses have also debunked a rumour from April, which suggested that former spin-off Big Brother’s Little Brother could be resurrected to replace Big Brother’s Bit On The Side.
C5 confirmed today that Bit On The Side will indeed be back as usual for the new series, presented by Rylan Clark-Neal.
The announcements were timed to coincide with Big Brother UK’s 18th birthday. Today marks 18 years since the very first episode of BB aired on Channel 4.
Celebrity Big Brother is expected to launch in mid-August, followed by the 19th ‘civilian’ series in mid-September. The schedule swap is thought to be a result of the delayed start.
Earlier this year it emerged that Paul Osborne, the executive producer of BBUK’s fan-favourite seventh series, is returning to its senior team.
