Big Brother returning to NZ TV

I wouldn't mind them opening the auditions up to New Zealanders too, it would give the producers a bigger talent pool to choose from, plus it might be nice to have a sexy Kiwi accent or two in the house.
starnow.co.nz would have to open first. :P

lol. They cut the shitty dance number at the start.

They edited the first 12 minute segment of the launch down to less than four minutes.

Edit: OMG. They've sped the audio and video up, they've butchered the interviews on stage, random things have been cut.

Xavier magically teleported from the stage, to the house in an instant. :/

We are now 45 minutes into the launch, and approximately 20 minutes of footage has already been cut.

Shit. And then when BB inevitably flops in NZ they will just put it down to kiwi's not being interested in it and won't second guess the dumbass production values. I would rather they left it off air than did a 60% effort.

I mean it is the easiest job in the world, the footage has already been packaged and edited by Aus; all they have to do is just schedule it and show it, but no, they decide to hit it with the producer fuckstick. Nice one NZ, just business as usual I see.

I think they will stop editing the shows once Showdown is finished. I'm pretty sure the Launch was edited because it was 2 hours long and they needed it to fit in a 1 1/2 hour timeslot. The whole Xavier being on stage and then suddenly in the house was just horrible though.

Hopefully it will rate well, there's 3 different ways to watch it.
The normal channel, tv3 plus one.
Plus on demand website

What kind of ratings does BBAU have to get in NZ to be considered a success?

The highest rated shows in nz get around 600,000 viewers, but for the time slot bbau is in the highest ratings are around 100,000. So I reckon if bbau can get over 50,000 that's pretty good.. especially for tv3.

Poorer countries than NZ have done Big Brother, I think Albania even had their own 24/7 live stream. So the idea that it is really costly has to be a myth.

You can't really compare Albania with NZ, lol...

Broadcasting companies have an expectation of how many viewers should be watching at a given timeslot. If BB causes that number to drop the show will simply be replaced with something else. It is also significantly cheaper to buy your pre-packaged BB than produce our own one, and naturally if it gets high enough numbers they might consider investing money on a locally produced one.

given that Tv3/mediaworks have lost the rights to screen shows from Fox,
i can see this being a testing ground for them.
screen this season, if it rates well screen next years, and work towards their own version

Tv3, have their own version of the block, and it seems to rate well

What system do they use to determine the ratings is it similar to OZTAM?

Has NZ TV ratings been decreasing in recent years like it has in Australia thanks to the introduction to multi channels? Does NZ have mulit channels ? How many channels do you guys have? What is your top rating show that has been on this year? Do you guys have pay TV? Sorry about all the questions but I'm really curious. Thanks.

we have free to air tv, which is about 14 TV show channels but three of those are plus 1 channels, which is a hour delay to their main channel.
the rest are shopping, radio channels, and church channels

we do have Sky, like in aus. which is over 200+

So... Big Brother was beaten in the ratings by an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Because of it's timeslot, no exact figure is available as throng.co.nz only lists the the top five shows for shows that air from 9am-5pm and Big Brother isn't even on that list.

For the curious, 82,680 people watched SpongeBob.

Most who wanted to watch it probably did when it was originally aired through the internet. Don't know why the TV people in NZ are so stupid not to realise that. You can't easily separate areas of the world anymore.

Not true. Big Brother/channel 9 didn't allow New Zealand to watch any content on the website. For a while some episodes where appearing on youtube, but the channel (BB0000001 or whatever it is) must have got a cease and desist or something because they stopped after episode 30 or so.

My only other option to get up-to-date content was to buy an Aus proxy so I could use the site, which is what I did.
