Rewatch Big Brother 2008 YouTube stream (Starts 7am 25 Oct)

Travis took it all on the chin. The fact the constant taunting and ridiculing went on for as long as it did, and BB never called it out, is embarrassing.

Not sure if it has already been shown but Nobbi got told off after the Alice incident, when one of the deputy voices would recount all these events, mentioned how bullying is not allowed and then weirdly went to "you were very close to crossing it again."

Which has been such a weird talk.. on the one hand trying to be very stern with Nobbi but at the same time still downplaying it by just telling him to stop it and not acknowledging that he didn’t just get close to crossing the line but actually having crossed it a long time before the Alice incident.

Found a couple articles for more context, which further proves how much the incident was downplayed during the Daily and live shows at the time.

Allegedly it wasn’t shampoo but a cleaning product that they sprayed at him, which “burnt all the layers off” his eyeball.

It’s clear the show couldn’t afford any serious controversies at the time, given everything else that had led to this season, and the sad truth is not enough people were watching to notice or even care enough for it to be a bigger deal. But not reprimanding the boys - and continuously dismissing it as a “boys being boys” prank - was pretty callous.

It's definitely a spray bottle in the screen grab on one of the articles. He should have gone (or better still been called) to the DR and got medical care immediately when the incident occurred. Big dereliction of duty by whoever was on duty at the time.

Brigitte was Lady Gaga before most of us knew who Lady Gaga was. 😂

Side note: Barney has spent more time in the chat than he did in the house,
The "webmates" were treated even worse than the "Golden Key housemate" from the previous years. Ten did such a good job in the build up with an online audition process but then only used it to cast three people who they threw in mid-series and chucked out almost immediately.

The latter Ten seasons had a terrible revolving door intruder policy. It was just so pointless. Probably made it more interesting for the HMs to have someone new to talk to but for viewers... not so much.

Agree - the only benefit of this year being such a short season is there shouldn't be any intruders, but then I wouldn't even count on that.

There is a place for them in longer series but ideally it should just be one batch. They need to be put in to fill a role which the remaining original housemates are not filling, not just to keep the numbers up, and should be within the first third of the season.

I'd forgotten what a jerk Nobbi was.
Times like this, I wish Gretel was still hosting, from memory when he was evicted Kyle and Jackie just blow smoke up his ass and said how good he was. Gretel would've stood up to him and told him straight up he's a bully, would've made for one hell of an eviction interview.

So how do we feel about the nomination/voting system in this season?

I think the initial audience nominates / HMs evict was a great idea. It meant that people would save the HMs they loved (or loved to hate), which left the bland or UTR ones being nominated. And then they flipped the script once all the bland ones were gone. I think they played it quite well, except it inadvertently led to Terri winning, when she would have likely been repeatedly nominated by HMs until inevitably being evicted had they stuck to the old system. I guess it's really a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.

I was keen on it until they kept showing the danger zone every single episode which just resulted in the voting being so random. Rory would continuously avoid being in the "danger zone" along with people like Brigitte and Nobbi but would then end up in the bottom 3/4 despite being an audience favourite.
