I wouldn't put it past him.
That finale was definitely the last straw for her. The season had been put together pretty good but that finale was a shocker. Pretty sure they had different producers for the daily vs. live shows right?

I do really like her but every bit I’ve seen of her in the chat is just annoying! I do wonder if her tone is lost and all her silly comments are different IRL.

It’s so sad. Such a hot mess and Gretel did so incredibly well, but she deserved so much better than that. I absolutely see why it was the end for Gretel but gosh it’s sad watching it knowing that’s it for her.

Little did we know that would be the last time Gretel would ever host Big Brother. Big Brother was never the same again after that. This was truly an end of an era. In my opinion, Gretel is one of the best and capable Australian TV hosts we have ever had. There is a reason she is very fondly remembered and fans are always calling for her to come back. Which she never will, but that sentiment stands as a test of how great she was at her role. Thank you, Gretel, for everything you did for Big Brother, and thank you for all the wonderful memories.
She looked fabulous that night on the finale.

I don’t want Gretel to come back per se, I’ll just never get over the fact she didn’t get a proper send-off and never got to farewell the show and viewers in an appropriate way.
She was, and imo always will be, the face of Big Brother Australia. Regardless of whatever was going on behind-the-scenes at the time, she deserved so so much better in the end.
…certainly something better than that video she sent from the set of Rocky Horror a year later.

Christ. She did so well handling everything in that finale. Honestly, most people would have probably broken down.
It was holding on after the pantomime, but when Zach and Aleisha joined her on stage it had been slashed.

She at least looked so much happier in that video compared to the later seasons she hosted, it felt like in a way she was telling us she was okay

I didn’t even notice the outfit, as if things weren’t bad enough. What a disaster, like truly feels like a nightmare to be hosting a live event and nothing going as planned and your clothes falling off. I’m so sure that her increasing frustration of the production coupled with that absolute shit show made her vow to never return. I guess this is fairly obvious but some still theorise she was fired.

I love this take so much.
In the Wikipedia page for the season it’s listed under Controversies that 2007 was when criticism of the way she interviewed male housemates started to ramp up. There were definitely some cringey moments, like near the end when she asked Billy in detail if he was used to gay men finding him hot. Ditto the Michael interview from 2006. I can see all of this raising the eyebrows of network executives.
But then again it was so obvious she was over it. BBBA was never kind to her the entire run (we totally went too far at times). If she was fired, it was probably a mutual feeling.

See, I remember obscure things like when this site got hacked and every single forum member had their names, email addresses and details leaked in a spreadsheet on the homepage.
But I don’t recall the /gretel page… sounds like that’s probably a good thing.
She says in her book The Night My Bum Dropped that she was fired, but the book is "a gleefully exaggerated memoir", so make of that what you will. Like Tim says, it was quite possibly a mutual decision by the end there.
I think an interview with her about her time with BB would be fascinating but she's unlikely to ever agree to that. What she said on TAR might be all we ever get.
