It actually makes me a little sad, knowing BBAU as we knew it was months away from ending. They got so much right this season.

I would've preferred Hayley to stay over Andrew though, she was chaotic but it wouldve been interesting to see (although I think she was wanting to be the one to go and having had enough wasn't she).
I think its in the week or so before Emma and Rebecca go, and Zach and Michelle enter (on about Day 50 which is also bang on the midpoint of the Season), and you can really feel a shift point in the show as its also when the girls to boys ratio starts to really become noticeably unbalanced as well because its basically Aleisha the only remaining original female housemate from then on.

Also do you think someone was looking at those set of beds in the centre of the bedroom there and When planning for BB08 came around went 'you know what would be wild? ONE GIANT BED' lol.
I always thought that it was inspired by the 8th UK series, which had that "make the house as annoying as possible" theme going on.
I don't need to explain the house to you, but for others: They haven't had one bed for all housemates, but they had some beds for four people with just one elongated pillow. Australia definitely got their idea for the diary room door from. The UK had the lights all around the airlock between the living space and the actual diary room though, not just on the door like Australia did.

Andrew was so too boring, he should have left over Hayley. But I wasn’t a huge fan of either. She seemed way more into him than he was her but maybe he was more reserved or maybe he just found her annoying.

I really hope whatever gay is dressing Mel for this era does a modern take on some of Gretel’s OTT and wild fashion choices. Not necessarily saying they need to copy her but there definitely needs to be a few WTF is she wearing?! moments in the mix. It’s Gretel’s final season hosting, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to go through the many launch show looks of Gretel over the years. Which one was your favourite look? All capped from the stream.

I think my all time favourite was her BB05 look. She looked amazing. Followed by BB01 and BB07.
Dipped into YouTube and noticed Bodie also joined the stream chat during the early hours of the morning. (That amounts to Susannah, Jamie, Aleisha and Bodie engaging publicly for this season so far - with Billy also watching along and briefly connecting to viewers via Susannah.)
Someone asked if it’s true he begged for forgiveness from Gretel after the chicken incident.
Bodie: “1000% l actually felt terrible, i meant to throw the chicken into the audience but it got caught on my ring. […] she was actually good once she understood it wasn't intentional. I am not sure about whether she knew it was her last season or not”

Wasn't there a "Premium" service which included the feeds and more mature content?I know there was no Uncut aired this season but I’m having vague memories about having to pay money to watch it online. Or was that just live streaming in general?

I believe so but IIRC it was pretty much abandoned before the series was over.Wasn't there a "Premium" service which included the feeds and more mature content?

It’s such a small thing but I always love the crosses to the control room with Gretel. Makes me feel like I’m peeping into the behind the scenes when I’m not really supposed to.
I wouldn't even consider it a small thing.. I think the original Dutch team had a similar idea in their minds, when they designed the studio. It almost felt like the control room with all the cameras being visible and labelled with numbers:

And I'm not sure if the Netherlands has done it as well, but in the first season, the live shows in Germany featured small insights into the production, which I thought were very exciting... e.g. right at the beginning of this video: You see the floor manager giving the host the signal to start the show, you see the cameras.
(It's possible that it was more an attempt at getting some early 00s crazy young television vibes, but I do think it was a deliberate choice of getting a view behind the cameras... and I would assume that the Netherlands have done it as well)
Having Gretel in the control room was a very smart adaption of that idea.. not just because they were able to extend the launch show and add some sort of mini-daily show to it. But it was the sexier approach to the mentioned ideas. For me, it's the epitome of what makes (or in many cases: made) Big Brother so great compared to other reality shows. Being taken to the control room, it's like you're directly involved with the show, almost like you are part of the team. And in the early days, it was certainly true with the live feeds, production keeping you constantly updated and you having more knowledge than the housemates because they would tell you about twists in advance.
It's a different form of interactive television than what you very often get today, when you just vote and if you're lucky, you might get to pick a wake-up song. I really hope that 10 can re-capture some of the magic from these early seasons.

It’s wild how similar those early franchises all are it’s kind of like a weird alternate universe… The studio, the FOTH, the floor plans, and even decor are all very similar (in some cases nearly identical) but they all have slight differences that make them unique.I wouldn't even consider it a small thing.. Here you can see Julie’s set doesn’t have the scaffolding but the layout of the set and the screens has the same DNA.

I think it's not too surprising for Germany and the US since both countries had people from the Netherlands working on the show. It was then Spain that were the first to change a few things, most prominently probably the logo and theme song. The house still used the same layout, but was actually built inside a proper house and not just a couple of portakabins put together. The studio still had the feeling of the original one, but had more screens in the studio and they didn't show all the camera feeds on the screens:
And it's a bit off-topic, but they were also the first to change stipulations from the production bible, e.g. the editor-in-chief of the Spanish version once said that the original bible stipulated that every daily show had to have an update on the weekly task. But they changed it and only included the weekly task if there was a relevant story behind it (other than just having progress.
And then the UK took it even a step further with weekly evictions, different theme and logo, definitely a differently looking house and also a studio set that was different... they were also the first ones to have the host in the control room, which is probably where Australia took the idea from.
Must have been so, the only reason I remembered is because I charged the 6 or so $ to my dads credit card and got in troubleWasn't there a "Premium" service which included the feeds and more mature content?

Ummm Julie’s very first segment on BBUS was from the control room so I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to here.they were also the first ones to have the host in the control room, which is probably where Australia took the idea from.

I wonder why it is that so many seem to not remember this season. I know on my first rewatch I started with this season because I had seen it the least and probably wouldn’t remember much if only going off when it aired, were many of us collectively dipping in and out? It sort of makes sense why they thought they had to change things so much the following season if interest had waned so much.
While it wasn’t the case for me, I assume this is was at least partly in response to the turkey slap and it was well and truly considered trash tv.
If only more people had given it a chance at the time!

Yeah, true... (and that wasn't the first segment worldwide to feature the control room either). But with Davina, it's been the first time it was somewhat part of the set and not so much a "hey, we're going to show you how this works" piece.

Makes sense. Yes I do agree that showing more behind the curtain stuff even if it’s not necessarily doing much other than acting as a backdrop does add a certain something to the show.Yeah, true... The pen is mightier than the sword.
I preferred Hayley staying over Blandrew. She was feisty and brought value to the house. They should've either had the public vote (maybe from the audience) or the house voting. Pretty sure Hayley would've gotten the 'stay' votes.Although, at least Hayley’s surprise eviction in the middle of that birthday party was satisfying to watch.
That was one thing these producers definitely learned from their mistake in 2005, by keeping both Logans around together longer than they should have. They split up Hayley and Andrew quick smart this year.
