Rewatch Big Brother 2003 YouTube stream (Aug 15-17 + 22-24)

So I'm watching a version I got on an old HD, not the new one. Was Coke a sponsor at one time? Cos their beers seem to have labels taken off but water bottles have Pump aswell. (It's all coke owned)

Might just be the difference between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Just checking in, ...
I wonder what the intermission point will be, If they get another two weeks done by tomorrow night they'll be past the Double Eviction and I think thats when it was Final 6 one a week until Final 3 and Finale.
Yeah looks like I was about right. They have a 'Part 2 next Friday' screen up now and they stopped about 5 mins ago (approx 11:10am AEST) at the end of the Double Eviction of Kim and Saxon (Day 57, end of Week 8).

Confirmed by BB on the streams today: there are no plans to upload season 3 separately in its own playlist. I hope they are able to, eventually.

It also seemed unclear whether anything past 2004 will go up either (as we suspected). Reading between the lines, if they do, apparently a livestream marathon is a possibility but doubtful they’ll go up in their own playlists as well.

Too much or is there another issue?
I assume there must be another issue, possibly rights related or sponsor related etc. Once they have the vidoes uploading them shouldn't be a problem.

Its possible that due to sponser changes etc they would have to either blur certain things which would be a huge amount of work or pay the sponsors again.

The show doesn’t pay sponsors. Sponsors paid the show. If you think they’d somehow reject the idea of free advertising you’re kidding me 🙄

It can work both ways depending on the product. Also new sponsors may not allow showing related products from other companies.

I believe it comes down to trademark protection, if their trademark is being used outside of the original parameters of their sponsorship deal, Coke could hypothetically sue for trademark infringement. Trademark law is highly performative to my knowledge, if you don’t protect your trademark then you lose it.

Kinda makes sense to me.

2004 was in many ways the last season before the show really leaned into morphing into something else, something more gimmicky. If the revival is looking at going back to what made Big Brother what it was - this does feel like a natural end point for the marathons. Remind people of the good stuff in the early years and leave the problems of the later seasons in the past.

They have none at the moment.

Again sponsors aren’t going to turn away free advertising. BB is also not using sponsors in a way that would violate any trademarks. Product placement is purely for advertising purposes.

Most people think movies/TV show using very obvious dupes of branded products/services has to do with needing to pay to use the trademark but actually it’s the other way around where if the brand isn’t paying to be featured the show/movie isn’t going to give them free advertising.

They actually will send a cease and decide if their logos and branding is used without their consultation or the branding is old. Happens all the time. There is “free advertising” yes but some brands actually don’t want it especielly when it’s 20+ years old

Again another reason why they’re putting this up on YouTube and not 10 Play. If sponsors were actually an issue here they wouldn’t be streaming the series.

Trademarks wouldn't be an issue.
Yes they very much are an issue. You have to licence any trademark you want to include.

Businesses are within their legal rights to claim royalties from any entity they deem to be using their devices while making a profit, or order the cease and desist of any entity using their IP. The reason products are covered up when filming is out of legal precaution, not because a network doesn’t want to hand out free advertising. It’s called product displacement.

Other reasons products can be covered up could also include conflict of interest with other sponsors (hypothetical example could be displaying a bag of red rooster when KFC is a major sponsor)

But what would make product placement in Season 3 and beyond any different than the first two seasons?

It could be as simple as they just want to give people time to watch the first two seasons fully and then might be doing something with season three after the new season airs - trying to make sure people are hyped but not over exposed with Big Brother?

Maybe they have done enough to realise there is the demand for all of this and it is worthwhile doing but the marathons are not sustainable.

Maybe they are going to do Shorter watch parties over the summer months for the other seasons?

There is lots of unknowns really.

Fair to say interest has dropped in these marathons with each series - half as many posts for this one as BB02 which had half as many posts as BB01.

The live stream counts aren't up but the BB01 launch has 30k views abd most other BB01 episodes have at least 1000 views whilst BB02's are less than 200.
