Yeah I think they might be able to fix the horrible glitching you posted by re-digitising it from the master. Hope so.
 
I would be surprised if they do tbh, after already spending the time to do it the first time. Especially to re-upload the whole season on YouTube again when they already have such a big task ahead with what’s to come. But hopefully.
 
They were on Betacam tapes which was the industry standard at the time but I agree with Theorists’ comments. You’ll also find the quality of the pre recorded programming IE Daily shows etc, were all higher quality due to the way they were post produced and played out . Live shows you’ll find there is more compression on them as they were recorded off the live data link to broadcast playout.
Word is that all these tapes were stored at 10 Pyrmont and not really looked or touched since the 2008 axing.

There is the possibility of a few AI programs that are able to savage and repair issues with older tape content so will be interesting to see if they use it/try
 
There was a digitising of BBAU a few years back as part of of an effort to preserve Australian TV history in some archive - I remember reading a tweet at the time that someone was watching Johnnie's eviction as it was being done.

So there might be some digital copies that might be free of some of these issues, depending on when tapes became damaged. Possibly even during transport for that previous digitisation effort.

Thank you for mentioning this! Not many people seem to remember this happened.

From memory, I think it might’ve been just 2001 that was originally preserved for prosperity, due to its cultural and historic significance. At least that’s what they publicly said at the time, I think.
 
I definitely remember the Johnnie tweet, or at least I saw it posted on Instagram at the time, was it around 2017? I always thought all of the channel 10 seasons were preserved.

Johnnie from BB01 posted this tonight. Aside from the very heartfelt message, it is great to know the original seasons of BBAU (or at least the very first) have been officially archived.

Season 2 is one of my least favourite. It lost credibility when one of the most popular housemates - Damian - was wrongly voted off in the first eviction due to a problem with the phone lines where he was getting Turkan's votes. He got $20,000 compensation later but it unfairly changed the whole dynamic of the house and left a shadow over the whole season and how differently it was supposed to go.

What? This was a thing?

Surely they would've put him back in like they did with Bree two years later?

Perhaps there were clauses in his contract that meant once he was gone, he couldn't return even if it was an error on the production companies behalf.

Could also be because he was out of the house too long to be able to be put back in? Bree was pretty much put straight into lockdown IIRC. Still, glad he got compensated for it.

I remember hearing a vague rumour about this at the time but it never sounded very substantial, when I heard it someone cited the fact the screen briefly froze as evidence, I have never heard anything since. Where did you hear this?

I guess $20k is a decent enough payout but considering he was up for $250k then surely he could qualify for something more. Also surprised they even told him to be honest but maybe they had legal obligation.
 
Thinking about it more, I feel like this is just speculation and not anything that actually happened. Turkan was nominated every week until she was evicted. If there was an error in the initial eviction, she would have been evicted much sooner rather than lasting until Week 6 if the viewer sentiment was there to get her out.

If anything, it makes more sense that Damian got some of Katrina's votes given how the voting went in Week 2. Since two of the three nominees were the same.

Yeah I would say it’s for sure speculation. Unless the person has a credible source we can read or maybe they were involved directly at the time then it’s sort of hard ti believe because while Big Brother is not exactly the most important thing a wrongful eviction and all of its implications is pretty serious.

Bit of sugar coating going on there for what was a non-consensual act. 'We've known her for 70 days and thought she wouldn't mind, it was all a bit of fun' doesn't cut it. The fact that she laughed it off doesn't change that.
