Ben is a Fake!

1. Stand up comedians are often shy and awkward in real life.
2. a few gigs he may have had 6 years ago does not make him a stand up comedian or an actor.
3. He is entertaining. Just because you don't like him or what he does, doesn't make it any less true.
4. The show is about people living in a house and the tv viewing public watching them. People then vote or not. People are voting for Ben. That's their prerogative. If he is acting in such a way that he gets people voting for him, he should be rewarded. That is the point of the game.
5. I'm not even a Ben fan, but calling him "a fake" based on an article and piece of information that means bugger all in the scheme of things was worth commenting on, but not continuing with.
6. Bored now.

Thank the Lord. A Behind Big Brother with an ounce of common sense. I hate to say say but you as mostly talking to simpletons in this thread. Critical thinking skills extremely lacking amongst your typical big brother fan.

If he weighs the same as a duck...

oh look, someone that agrees with me. you are so much more intelligent than everyone else.

and as ben slips in and out of his well-crafted naive-parasitic-manboy-persona, it's clear that he isn't one of them.

2. a few gigs he may have had 6 years ago does not make him a stand up comedian or an actor.

yes, that's exactly what it makes him. we're not talking about doing an amateur tuesday at the corner pub, here. these were paying gigs at festivals supporting well-known headliners.

3. He is entertaining. Just because you don't like him or what he does, doesn't make it any less true.

uh, actually, the fact that some (many?) people don't like what he does mean that he's not capital-T "truth" entertaining. perhaps it doesn't change how entertaining you find him, but it will for many...

Indeed. and the fact that Ben has been dishonest about his performing-arts history, that he has been using a well-crafted persona to avoid conflict, play to the cameras and fool people into voting for him is something that people might choose as a reason to NOT vote for him, or vote for someone else.

5. I'm not even a Ben fan, but calling him "a fake" based on an article and piece of information that means bugger all in the scheme of things was worth commenting on, but not continuing with.

No, it really wasn't. But it's a good idea to stop now so I don't have to take you down a second time :)

Oh, i'm just getting started.

I guess Ben's act annoys me more than Tim's because Ben's "poor little me" schtick obliges people to tread gently for fear of being seen as bullying. It's a pity he didn't choose to go with the more adult, wittier persona. But then that wouldn't shelter him so well from confrontations or nominations. Tim's act is also less insulting because he involves us, and acknowledges that we know he's playing, whereas Ben is content to play the one level and seemingly thinks we deserve no more effort than pyjamas and pathos.
If Ben owned that he was acting, the voting public wouldn't be "aw....poor wittle Benny Wenny! Look how sweet he is talking to his pictures and wearing his Grandpa's peejays all day long. Isn't he the cutest??!!"

*insert retina detaching eye roll* Go away Ben.

I don't know if Ben is acting or not but his whole story does not add up. When the lol task was on he certainly was able to turn on a polished stand up performance and it wasn't the first time he had told those stories. Once it got to the duo bit though it fell apart.
His pj wearing is a ploy to have a trademark.
I wouldn't care but certainly that task was his opportunity to say I've done stand up before - maybe he did but we weren't shown but does seem if he did tell the HMs they would mention it sometime somewhere in passing.

Yeah, and thats the key to Bens BB persona. That is critical when he "COACHES" the public via his photo talking.

...oh nana, I'm finding it so difficult here.
...oh nana, these people can be so mean.
...oh nana, Tim is so manipulative.
...oh nana, I just don't like these mean games.
...oh nana, little old me is just trying to make you proud

Just because he did a gig 6 years ago doesn't make everything he has said about himself now untrue. I know from experience that all it takes to crush your self confidence and make you insecure and sheltered can be something as little as balding, gaining weight, braces, acne or any change in the way you see yourself.

Couldn't care less if he was 'acting' though, props to him for the adorable persona. Go Ben!

Yep. He makes a big show of not liking nominations yet he admits to burning a friend of ten years over the cost of a light meal. Sus. So much is sus about this guy.

Who can say they are the same person they where 10 years ago? A lot can change, and so can that person. I know 10 years ago I will go out with friends and have a great time, these days I much rather a quiet night at home or a dinner with a friend. I have a facebook page and friends post photos from when I go out with him to dinner, or when I see them. Who says that Ben is not the same? It looks like he did just one stand up show. Can anyone show anything else? It seems to be the same photo. He might of wanted to give something a shot. And if he did good on him! If he is acting, so be it, at the end of the day it is still a game

My guess he probably did it for a little while but then gave it up, years ago. He definitely has talent though. He should definitely do some more standup and maybe try his hand at acting. He is a natural.

he has talent there is no doubt there, he is a natural for sure. But like I said before, If he is acting (And keeping that character for this long good on him) it is a game at the end of the day. But people change, we are not the same as we where 10 years ago

Do you really believe that he sits at a 1970/80's styled home listening to Bert and Patty's family album?

I don't know about the 70's/80's house or Bert & Pattie but I think Ben is pretty much genuine. Who said 'No man is an island'? Even the shyest people (myself included) sometimes come out of their shell. Even extremely shy/sensitive people have dreams, desires & aspirations. Ben obviously has a desire to be a comedian/actor, etc. That doesn't mean he is fake. I'm sure it would have been hard for him to do the stand-up. He probably had to really push himself to get up on stage, etc.

He is a shy & sensitive guy who obviously lacks self confidence. But a part of him still wants to get out there & do something, and to be heard/seen. He comes across as funny, bright, clever, witty & playful. He is shy but has obvious talent, natural talent. I'd love to see him on tv after Big Brother, whether as an actor or comedian.

I, for one, stand by my convictions that Ben is a fake. I don't believe for 1 second that if Ben is truly what he portrays he would ever try out for Big Brother & make it through the selection process without quitting. We have already seen numerous "cracks" in his personna both in things he says & ways he acts (and that's just in the few minutes we see of him pre-screened by BB). It's also obvious from comments made by himself & other HMs that he keeps to himself a lot -is it to shield himself from the horror of the BB house or to make it easier for him to maintain his character??? It is to BB's advantage to maintain his quirky, weird image & they've certainly given him enough extra help with it. If people feel that given all this they still think he deserves to win & vote for him then that's certainly their prerogative, but I personally would feel duped if I were a Ben fan (which I am not because I don't find him particularly entertaining).

I posted it on the FB page under some posts but ofcourse it was deleted within seconds.. how do we get the word out?

You should call a local radio stations- or send them an email with the link to the story, they love scoop like this. They may even call in one of his co-comedians & ask about Ben as a performer.

Brings to mind something that Bert Newton said to Ben ...something along the lines of "Doesn't matter whether you win or loose BB, I see a great future for you in Australian TV"....I wondered about this comment until I realised that Ben is playing a carefully developed part and was pulling it off rather well.
So good luck to him, It is an entertaining show, although calling it "Reality TV" might be stretching the bow a little and I can't seem to be able to rid myself of the feeling that I've been conned a bit....
