BBB Members and Their Christmas Traditions

So, Christmas is at my house this year. Just with my side of the family. So me, my husband and son, my mother, my sister, her husband and 3 kids.
So, my dilemma is whether to do a hot or cold Christmas meal.
My mother has always been very traditional and done the hot meal, but I'm wavering back and forth between both.
Hot because it's easy to stick the food in the oven and not have to worry too much about it.
Cold because it just suits the climate better. The only drawback may be prep work with salads (and my lack of skill haha).

What are easy and yummy things to make for a cold Christmas lunch?

seafood? lobsters, crabs, oysters, prawns? Maybe get that from the seafood markets around you? just buy a bag of ice and throw on them to keep them fresh and cold. no prep work needed really. also buy prepacked salads and dressing. though the seafood might be an expensive option.

bbq's are the best imo. maybe this could be an option?

It's really hot to bake and cook food. but I know many do. and at least you can choose an easy thing to bake. my go to is buying chicken, or lamb roasts, seasoning, putting in an oven bag and bake to whatever time. it's lazy, but looks like you made an effort haha

The protein is fine, we'd probably have chicken, ham, and prawns.
It was more the salad part. I'm not that imaginative when it comes to cooking lol.
I have a great potato salad recipe and I'm not working the couple of days leading up so I have time to prep.
We've had the Christmas lunch at my sister's the last few years because of her children's ages (she still has 3 under six years) and she follows my mum's lead and has the full on cooked lunch but I put my hand up this year so wanted to do something different.
I have to remember that just because I don't like something (mainly in the vegetable department) doesn't mean everyone doesn't like them lol

oh lol. you are one of those people... I'm joking. I love vegies. always have lol.

Do a seafood pasta salad. that seems to be a fave. shred carrots, chop celery, frozen peas, frozen corn even, chop parsley, crab meat from any supermarket, the spiral pasta, mayonnaise (tomato sauce is optional- for the cocktail seafood dressing taste), squeeze some lemon. season... mix and done.

Haha yes, I can't force myself to like them. My husband and son love them though so luckily I have them to cook for so I still eat them lol.
Thanks for the suggestion sounds good :)

Our most cherished Christmas tradition as a family is the Christmas picture. Every year, our family poses in the living room with our decorated and lighted Christmas tree. We've been doing this since my youngest child was born - in 2001.

Also, every year I make a slideshow video of these pictures. This year's slideshow would be the shortest, but displaying 14 Christmases. The video is only 1 minute long.

That's really cool!

I have finally decided my Christmas menu. Baked ham with a macadamia ginger glaze, deep fried roast potatoes, honey carrots, brocollini and cheese sauce.

I live on the Sunny Coast so it goes without saying the A/C will be on 24.

Lol ok, so here my mothers attempt a tree this year. She forgot to cancel the order and got this huge beautiful tree delivered yesterday, but we're going away today so she won't be here to even keep it alive.

Does anyone want a free tree?
