BBAU Rewatch

Up to Day 34, Daniela and Laura have now joined and Hayley has left (thank god). I used to love Hayley when I first watched this but she seemed so entitled this time around of watching. She thought Billy owed her loyalty, which he didn't, she was so trying to win allies and took it personally when she got called out by Bodie and then got exposed by Demet for being the snake she was (although it seems Demet may have had ulterior motives for doing so).

I'm shocked to read that Hayley was in the top 3 most popular on the online poles. Must be exposure bias. I like that the couple had been broken up not long after housemates started calling them out for their advantage, I would have preferred the audience to have voted but I think Hayley may have left regardless. I would have liked her to stay for the drama.

Like 2006, my memory on a lot of the housemates so far seems to be false. I don't remember Aleisha, Joel, Billy, Jamie, Travis and even Rebecca being as quiet as they were early on. I also have found Susannah, Zoran and Andrew being shown more than I recalled. Although, that doesn't stop me from thinking the three are boring. Emma's edit is quite huge which is unsurprising, I don't remember her being THIS nasty.

I remember liking Daniela a lot, I forgot she had such a noticeable lazy eye lol, did a FB stalk and she's doing a lot for local TV. Happy for her!

Also liking that 2007 has been lighter on the live specials in comparison to 2006. The lack of uncut has also made it easier to binge. I also like the new save and replace twist a lot more than the three point twist. It saved Emma which did the show better, it's almost like a compulsory veto and winning immunity is what I feel was necessary for the FNL winner. 2007 overall has felt like a step in the right direction contrary to popular belief.

22:27 a nice cameo from Ajay Rochester host of the biggest loser at the time. It seems cross-promotions for network reality shows are an older concept than I thought. I forget that TBL and BB were both on air at one point. In one way it makes Big Brother to me feel less old as I remember TBL very well, on the other hand it makes TBL also feel older than I remembered lol.

12:04, wow that Emma was a nasty little bitch and I love it. They had a Bollywood star task where half were stars and half were extras (pretty much masters and servants). As an extra Emma had to cook them Indian styled meals, she deliberately made their dinner spicy so they couldn't eat it. Emma denies doing so and even gaslights the other housemates through suggesting they are insinuating she did. The girl was nasty for no reason, so bitchy, constantly had to put others down and yet hated others for doing so.

In this Daily show Aleisha's personality is really juxtaposed with Emmas, for the main part of the series so far she has been Emma's lapdog. Aleisha however tells Emma she is secluding herself from the others for no reason. I am even surprised that Billy was almost as bad as Emma, it was just behind people's backs. I do love Emma for the television entertainment she offers, but I think her leaving was so detrimental for the likability of Billy and Aleisha.

If I eat food that's got too much chilli I get the hiccups. I don't mind spicy food but that's my unfortunate side effect. Is it possible Emma got put up to doing this by producers? Easy to think that the Ten seasons were pretty transparent, but... were they? Wait, now that I've said that, Ten would definitely have shown BB suggesting Emma do this in the DR, if it was a set up.

Is it possible Emma got put up to doing this by producers?
Certainly not. She really was just nasty - and yet, still one of my favourites. She was great for entertainment (albeit, she definitely wouldn’t get away with even half of that nowadays) and gave the season some of its most memorable quotes.

Definitely not set up, she just despised the people she lived with. A genuinely nasty person is all it comes down to. But fuck it was great TV, Emma is honestly one of my favourite housemates and fuck that huge 70+% that evicted her. Personally though, I feel if Emma stayed longer and longer and managed to win out through FNL, Aleisha may not have won. Emma amplified Aleisha's bitchy side, and having the Bollywood task where Aleisha was forced to get to know other housemates, she came out looking really good compared to Emma, and even realised Emma had some irrational thoughts that she did not agree with.

It’s similar to Krystal & Bree in 04, it wasn’t as central or I guess drastic as this for instance. Bree wasn’t a lapdog, but in terms of the public. She would’ve suffered based on “guilty by association”. I remember feeling this sense of emptiness when Emma left. She really was the main character for basically her entire stay. But I do massively agree.

At 16:12, I'd just like to remind everyone that Jamie was NOT CRYING!
Lol, poor Jamie and Rebecca. The treatment of Rebecca today would not go down well at all. It is literal bullying.

From 1:06:40 I have found what may be a potentially significant butterfly effect in BBAU. I don't usually analyse the games of Friday Night Live, but given the twist of this season I feel winning them held more weight than previously. Emma naturally would have qualified for the final round but was given a penalty for not crossing the finish line completely. Had she done do properly, she would have likely won the final game, considering Laura was given an advantage as she was lighter than Billy and tied with him but lost due to dropping one of the Kangaroos she was meant to keep in her pouch. Emma more than likely does better than Laura in this game.

I have confidence she would have won, and thus been able to save herself from having to face the Week 7 double eviction. I do think this could potentially change the outcome of the season, but I will have to watch the second half to really assess my appraisal. Emma saves herself if she wins. Thus, 73% of the evict votes go elsewhere, as do 32% of the save votes. Emma nominates Rebecca so the only difference is Aleisha faces the vote and likely survives. Rebecca and possibly Daniela go in the double? I can't see any of the others being sent out before an intruder. No way Aleisha, Travis or Jamie go. Thomas is likely safe as is Andrew.

With Rebecca still gone and Emma remaining in the house to potentially pick up Zach who knows how the house dynamics work after that. Do Emma and her crew dominate the nominations? Does Emma have a chance of winning multiple FNLs? And even if she is safe for only a few more weeks does this impact Aleisha's popularity and cause her winning chances to decrease? Or does Aleisha break away from Emma naturally and still win? I slightly lean towards the former, but I have been non-stop thinking about this one scenario for too long.

I may be slightly over thinking this and reading into it too much. Aleisha's popularity and like-ability may have been strong enough to combat Emma's amplification of Aleisha's bitchy side, we'll never know.

Emma was so not at all my kind of person, but she did make for good tv. She seemed relatively confident too until she was very adamant that Susannah didn’t have a good body and I realised she was actually quite insecure. Unless I’m giving her too much credit, why else would she tear people down like that though?

I really liked Susannah but I feel like she is never mentioned by anyone. I guess aside from her connection with Thomas she didn’t make much of an impact on many people, but for some reason she did with me.

Emma for me would depend on a situation. Physically she is someone I would hang out with in my day to day life, but the bitchiness and nasty comments were beyond unacceptable. She had to constantly tare down people for their physical appearance, that part I don't remember. She was also incredibly deluded and believed that she wasn't a bitcher. I don't see how Aleisha was so drawn to her.

I understand what you mean about Susannah. I have always thought of her as boring, but on this watch I actually liked her and would have preferred either Jamie or Rebecca to go over her.

I guess we had some insight into Emma’s childhood to try and give context to how she acted, a big family and her fractured relationship with her father, but it is really intriguing that she didn’t see how downright nasty she was. She appears to be preaching love and happiness today, but hard to know if she still thinks this is the vibe she is putting out or if she has actually changed the way she thinks and acts.

Max Obviously this was a long time ago so people can definitely change and mature, it would be interesting to see what she is like now.

Just watched Emma's eviction episode. As a child, I always thought "wow they didn't tell her about her dad, what nasty people" but now looking at it with an older perspective, what else were they to do? If the producers didn't tell Emma at all then they'd be blasted for not telling her, if they told her as soon as possible then they'd be in shit for not obeying a dying man's wish. Either way, they were going to look bad and the media was going to exploit this regardless.

I noticed at the eviction announcement Emma was extremely flat and looked as if she wanted to get it over and done with, I thought maybe it was because of her emotions experienced in the last 24 hours. But then, on stage, she seemed emotionally stable. Now, logically if they told her the news the night of Day 49, it was probably because she was so clearly in the lead to be evicted. If I was Emma I'd take that being told the news at a specific point would indicate I was going, so I assume Emma knew she was going to be evicted, even if it wasn't spelt out for her. The housemates were talking about her delay for her interview and her eviction message was filmed in the diary room rather than after the eviction show, so it seems there had been much preparation explained to her and she should easily have been able to guess it was her going.

I think they made the right call in not telling her, the family had stated they didn't want her to know and I feel better knowing they respected the father's wishes rather than trying to play god and weighing up moral standards. I also had never even thought of the possibility of a crowd member shouting it out to her if she wasn't told until I read whirlpool. I feel it was handled as well as it possibly could, Emma also seemed very stable on stage and I commend her on being able to get up and go on with the normal process.

She was very stable on stage, funnily enough, her only apparent discomfort was being evicted along with Rebecca. Watching this all now I realise I had forgotten how much media stuff they had to do after evictions, and her having to do all of it with Rebecca probably made her slightly insane. I also found this entire week of daily shows to lead to a rather unceremonious exit for her despite her being such a huge character.

I was going to save my next point for her right up, but with her being such a big character I will probably have too much written anyway so I'll save that for writing about her as a character. In terms of the format for this one week, it's almost like production asked for her to be evicted. With the other side of the house starting to wane there were decreased chances she was going to be nominated, especially since Andrew had begun to join her side. Her nomination points had decreased over her last fortnight and had there not been five nominees needed for the double Billy could have saved her rather than needing to save Aleisha. I have probably spoken too much about the what if's about Emma staying, but she was such a huge character that carried the narrative on her back that I can't help but notice small instances that caused her avoidable eviction.

I'm disappointed she goes so early, she was my main source of entertainment this week in my life right now that I looked forward to. I hope that with Zach and Michelle now in I will continue to enjoy this season even without its main antagonist. Although, I was worried when Hayley left and Bodie, I have enjoyed the season no less without them anyway.

That moment when Laura unknowingly explained her dream about a young Emma with a “father figure” the same night Emma was told about her dad, and the look on her face as she bolted upright in bed, will forever be one of the most rawest, chilling moments ever on BBAU.

I agree that they handled it the best way they could, a tricky situation for sure where they couldn’t please everyone, and ultimately the public is the least important group of people to please in this event, which hopefully production agreed with. But I feel they managed to be respectful to Emma, her father and her family.

I’m assuming they gave her the option to leave at the time and maybe they even told her she was likely to be evicted if she just wanted to wait until then. It’s a while since I’ve watched it, did they tell her before she was nominated?

She was nominated on day 44 and told the night of day 49 (the day before her eviciton). She was upset the next day and that’s when Laura told her about the dream she had about Emma being a little girl with a father figure. That was beyond freaky.

I may as well share the link for readers to watch the moment again.

Ah I see. Yes this sounds familiar now. So yes basically she was told because she was most likely leaving and presumably given the choice to leave at the time.

Yes weird for sure with Laura. I also don’t remember the timing of Laura’s entry, would she have had any idea about the situation with Emma’s father prior to entering as an intruder? Definitely a weird and touching moment, and without even watching the above video I can picture her face so clearly.

A horrible situation but it was nice to see a more vulnerable side of Emma since she always had her guard up and was a total bitch.

Laura entered on day 31 but I assume would have been in lockdown since let’s guess day 26ish. After a quick read it seems this is around the exact day it began circulating in the media. It’s possible she knew but just as much that she didn’t. Either way, very freaky she had the dream when she did.

Yep for sure!

Speaking of Michelle / Daily Show edits, @Zcsund1234 when you eventually reach this moment later in the season, please come back to watch this clip in its full uncensored glory. I remember having tears from laughing at Michelle back in ‘07.

I just watched this on the daily show and the uncensored version and I pissed myself both times. The uncensored one made me howl with laughter after hearing "ITS A FUCKING ROBBER". I am crying!
