BBAU Rewatch

30:28 is how I learnt what the word Bogan means. I remember watching all of this so clearly as if it were yesterday. Benjamin please, you overreacted harshly to Michael's comment.

Watching 2012 immediately after 2008 is so weird. It is such a strange feeling. In reality there was a four year gap in between and now, I am watching it coming from Terri, Rory and Brigitte and am not used to such a large change in between seasons. It's just weird. What else is weird is how 2007, 2008 and 2012 are all so different from each other and I've just watched parts of them all sequentially in the last month.

No idea. Looking at the credits of past seasons he was at one stage the control room coordinator/producer. Was the executive producer of BB8 Virginia Hodgson or Tim Toni? I have alway been confused who it was.
Alex Mav "worked on the show since its early days on Network Ten" according to a BBspy article. I probably knew that in 2012 when Nine rebooted it but hey time is not kind to brain cells.

Virginia Hodgson was named as 2008 EP in this article. Tim Toni was 2007, according to this one.

I think Leon Murray did as well. I remember years ago watching an update clip on YouTube of Mike Goldman talking to him and he was listed as a runner or an intern, something like that. I guess there was a lot of room for promotion and career development in that aspect.

Leon and Alex were both involved in Uplate and, the latter, FNL. From what I recall.

Leon was featured quite a bit on-screen as a running gag by Mike during Uplate pre-2008.

Biggest thing I've noticed so far, after jumping from 2008 straight to 2012, is the choppy editing. And also, how little content is shown in daily show segments during the live shows. On the day 2 live special there is no more than 17 minutes shown, and then on the day 7 housemates secrets revealed, they only covered one day of the weekend. Bradley's birthday was the only thing that was even shown and was repeated again all over on the live show and then again the next day on the nominations show. I remember the daily show being shown on go and then having to switch to channel 9 to watch the live show, they gave up on that really quickly lmao.

The editing in general is very jumpy. The channel ten version showed longer unedited segments in comparison. Even if it's simply showing the housemate walking into the diary room and out again all the way into another room. The editing here just feels like it's jumping around with no linear structure.

Despite the nit pick, there is actually conversations being shown about their normal every day lives. Way more complexity than the 2008 season already.

I do think they used to pack so much more into a 30 minute daily show than when they became an hour or longer. Indeed the art of editing seems to have been lost in Australian reality TV in recent years, hence why shows are now often 100 minutes plus rather than an hour max. Sometimes less really is more - we're really seeing that with Survivor this year where the extra time has gone from being an asset to a burden, leaving viewers with the feeling most segments could be half as long as they are as they just keep going round in circles and retreading the same ground.

At least if I could watch it live I'd watch it all while posting inane comments to get through it. As it is I skip ahead through much of it because it's so tediously drawn out.

It is however refreshing to have only daily shows to watch on a binge. I feel like I went from the launch show to the nominations show in hardly any time at all.

I never realised that confidential was on so late and actually included some "adult" conversations. My mum mustn't have let me watch it in 2012, I don't remember any of these scenes. I was expecting just some extra clips, and then I hear Stacey rapping about "BJ's in the ally way" and Angie asking Michael to use an infrared thermometer on her vagina. I laughed mainly because I wasn't expecting any of these. Lots of boob talk, and an unfortunate strip tease from Bradley....

I seem to recall I couldn’t quite stick out the confidential episodes, now I’m wondering if I should have.
I remember nothing from them. I think me and my sister sneakily watched one after we recorded it and watched it on Foxtel the next day. I remember the little sister show that was on Wednesdays.

Up to the first eviction (poor Charne) and the eviction shows are even flatter than the 2008 ones. Did they just not use the grass seating in both 2008 and 2012? At least the eviction announcements weren't prerecorded like 08. I really hate that the events of the weekend were either not shown or highly glossed over on the Sunday night live show.

I don't remember "Confidential" at all. I know they did a few weeks of "Late Night Feast" but that was the following year.

I might be misremembering this or getting confused with when they put it on Fridays but didn't they introduce a "Daily Show" on Sundays that aired on GO! before the eviction a few weeks in?

It was done for the first Sunday show. It rated at like 230,000 and was scrapped after that. 2014 had several daily shows (mostly Thursdays or Fridays I think) on GO as well.

230k on GO! would have been an excellent figure at the time so odd they scrapped it. Unrealistic to expect the full audience to migrate over.

Bianca: She was so pompous, conceited and overly bad-tempered. I hated how she came in as this stuck up eighteen-year-old who looked down on her peers who enjoyed partying and drinking. You don’t have to approve of certain behaviours, but you’re no better than anyone because you don’t engage in them.
.....With Corey, I think Bianca was way too judgmental and high and mighty towards him. He threw a party and got in trouble boo hoo, you’re no better than him and it’s really rich to tell him he has a social responsibility to uphold whilst you were on a show that had a scummy reputation and proceeded to throw tantrums every week. ...... I get she was very young and had so much more mental, emotional and physical maturing to experience, but I felt embarrassed for her.
Yeah I could definitely understand her viewpoint (I don't drink and party either, and didn't at the time as a 20 year old when BB08 was on and I too didn't hold those who carried on in really high regard either) but theres a way to debate/discuss things and Bianca's way did her no favours, but yeah it might also have been age plus a sense of ivory tower over others kinda thing.

I'd like to think back then, or even now at nearly 34 and you put me in there with say someone like Nick Kyrgios who has had some erm 'public behaviour' recently, that I'd be able to articulate some civil debate/discussion with tact. I Mean the confines of the house and the experience would also play with you a bit (see Bianca losing her shit over The Mole thing), but OTOH theres just bratty/snobby personality at the same time and unfortunately It showed with Bianca's time in the house I think.

Travis: He always had to be (to use his words) “posimistic” which got so draining after a few short episodes. ..... He also very much lost me when he said being gay was a choice, as I mentioned before. Ironically, his sexuality became a talking point for many housemates, fans and even Kyle. I wish feminine traits weren’t specifically attributed to sexual orientation, but unfortunately, that is the world we live in. It is a shame a man can’t be feminine and not have those labels thrown at him, so whilst I have a lot of negative things to say about Travis, I do appreciate that he was comfortable being himself with no fear of the unavoidable judgment.
Yeah was it mentioned somewhere someone in his family was a pastor? Storytime I think at a friends birthday party or something around 2011 I spotted Travis but I wasn't 100% sure and it was a large gathering so I didn't go and say hi or anything. Point being that this friend was very into the church circles and community so It's not that surprising if all that links together for Travis to have that misinformed viewpoint.
That said he was very unapologetically himself, but agree that the 'posimistic' side would get overbearing and exhausting to be around, theres gotta be a break in that at some point.

They under utilised GO! big time for BB on Ch9. I think there was supposed to be an adult late show on there but was ditched last minute as well. There could have been a lot more done there but it never eventuated into anything great.

Yeah with Bianca I totally get that the environment she was in amplifies everything. I don't think she was a bad person, just very judgmental and narrow minded. I just couldn't warm to her.

With Travis I could only handle that 'posomistic' stuff for a very brief period. I like to think I am a very patient person who hardly gets annoyed, but even I have days where I just want to say fuck everything.

Yeah I remember thinking oh wonder if Confidential will be a panel show, the name kinda gives me those vibes, but it ended up being a clip show. Still, any extra footage was welcome with the 2012 season.

I remember enjoying it in the 2013 season, they showed lots of flashbacks to the 2001-2008 seasons I recall. They did a segment on Drew and Tully and then looked back at previous couples on BB. And then there was a segment about intruders and showed clips of Vesna. These episodes sparked lots of conversation in my house with "I remember her" "they were in it for the money" all that jaz. It's how I learnt about some previous housemates, so I think at times confidential was fun. 2012 I must have watched it towards the end.
