Another house walkthrough video, this time from 2012 BB winner Benjamin

Also the secret room (as seen in the ads with Mel looking in and BB telling her no), might be a pretty big room, it's right at the end of the hallway. depending on how much of the exhibition center they are using for the house itself.

Probably just a task room that can be used for various things. With the house stupidly built in the middle of the theme park suspect the tasks will be mostly indoors.

I forgot to mention previously but these guys have washing machines. Usually HMs had to do their washing by hand or using contraptions, just to give them something to do.

Looks llke a big laundry room, so that's different. I remember the early HM's having to hand wash their clothes in a certain area near the backyard.

Yeah, I did notice that. But still, given the proximity and materials used in the build, if a HM goes into the Diary Room in the early hours of the morning or dead of the night, surely you’d be able to hear something between the HM and the BB speaker.

If ex HMs in the marathon streams were saying you could hear things from the Diary Room through the walls in 2006 and 2007 (and there’s that clip from 2001 where they’re shouting task answers from the living room), then I’d say some soundproofing in this cheaper structure isn’t gonna do a lot.

Yeah good point. I think the main issue was from 2004 onward they used the glass sliding doors even though there were “airlocks” they aren’t as soundproof regardless. I remember hearing on one of the daily shows the living room echoing into the diary room.

Anyway. Just will be interesting to see how they do this

After watching Ben's video the house looks ridiculously large. While that may be great for the housmates, a smaller house where the crowding gets on the contestants nerves would result in better television for the viewers imo.

The revisionist nostalgia is in full force.

The build quality was no different in the old house, the only difference being that the public spaces don't have an enclosed ceiling (which the camera sight lines ought to cut around).

I like the size of this house. These spaces always appear bigger on camera than they are in IRL. The OG house would have been claustrophobic for anyone in there with 10+ other people.

Yes it’s a set, so various blemishes are visible, especially in this day and age of HD. I’d argue the original compound had a little more effort put into it. The yard in the new house has blatant seams in the wood paneling. In the old house this paneling would’ve had cladding or a concrete texture applied over it.

And agreed, the cameras always make it appear larger than it actually is. If only they filled in some of the mass voids that are evident.

The work wasn't really ever that good. Shoddy trim, uneven tiles, patchy paint jobs, and dry wall seams but to name a few.

Once people are in there, the elements of the house aren't ever really a focal point (unless they serve a narrative purpose).
