from what i remember, there was rightful criticism that uncut was unethically using softcore porn to lure teenage viewers into watching Big Brother.
That’s what the show was accused of doing but ultimately it’s the parent’s job not BB to monitor what their kids are/aren’t watching. Aside from a few instances where the show got its hands slapped for some questionable content making the show, Uncut/AO aired in an appropriate time-slot AND was rated accordingly. While I do tend to believe production were complicit in the things that led to Uncut/AO being cancelled they weren’t morally bankrupt.

As for 'luring teenagers for softcore porn', I guess it was technically possible back then, but not now.
Who would bother sitting through a 50 minute show for a few glimpses of nudity when they could find actual porn on their devices far more easily?

I do think the Big Brother narration on Uncut works far better than on the main show - kind of fits the idea we're seeing things only Big Brother has seen.
No, I really hate that simpering BB voice though. Can't we just have a regular male narrator again? I'd even rather have Mike Goldman back over the BB guy, although I know some of you can't stand him.

The whole “luring” argument is used by people who believe everything should be bubble wrapped because they’re too lazy to parent their own kids.

As for the accessibility of porn to kids/teens I’d tend to believe it’s about the same if not less than it was in the 2000’s. Millennial parents are on average more tech savvy than our boomer parents were and most devices now have some sort of parental controls on them by default.

It was 2005 where all that started to kick up more IIRC funny enough that season where they deliberately tried to cast 'sexy singles'.

I was in year 12 at the time and I''m not sure if it was mentioned on a couple episodes of Media Watch we saw as part of English Unit topic on the media (we also watched the satire Frontline, haha) or I read about it in the papers. But the ACMA started an investigation after the 'Cleveland Steamer/Dirty Sanchez' etc fetishes discussion drew a lot of complaints and was at the centre of it.

And wasnt there something about Michael resting his junk on Gianna's back or something as well? Anyway that whole thing stretched on for like a year (Gretel even comments on it a few times presenting later episodes of Uncut 2005) In the meantime Ten was trying to weather out the criticisms (the name change to 'Adults Only'), then the Turkey Slap happened a couple weeks AFTER they stopped doing Adults Only mid way into BB2006.

I stand corrected.

While I do think in the Kris Noble era production were definitely taking Uncut/AO in to consideration when assembling the cast I don't necessarily believe there was anything nefarious going on. It should also be noted that while Ten were found to have breached code of practice they weren't punished. Also the decision to end AO "early" was made after politicians threatened that continuing to air the show could derail media reforms Ten had been pushing for. I'm doubtful that said politicians had even watched the show and probably had barely heard of it prior to the controversy.

These are also the same idiots who thought they could censor the entire internet.

I think 05 also had the fetish song with Dean and (Hotdogs maybe?) which also got an official complaint made about it. So yeah 05 probably had the most genuinely offensive content I guess.

💯 So true. So many these days would sooner put bubble wrap around their kids to "keep them safe". The days where kids could dive in the deep end, get hurt, make mistakes, learn from experience, etc are nearly all but gone.

Uncut is literally the most old school Big Brother like episodes in this season.

Agree. I just watched it / caught up now. Uncut this season is most definitely much more like old-school BB. I am very much enjoying it. OK, so it isn't exactly old-school BB, and, sure, it doesn't have as much nudity etc as we may have been lead to believe (not that that is a big deal), but it is still far, far, far much better than the current incarnation of what they give us on the daily show ... not to mention that it gives us a chance to get to know more about the housemates and who they are, what their personalities are like, what they like and dislike, etc.

Highlights of this Uncut episode for me were ...
  • The clown following Gracie Mae around,
  • Gracie Mae and Lewis in the naughty chair,
  • Dion's designer shoes admission in the diary room with BB reminding him that his comments would be broadcast nationally on TV and, therefore, good luck keeping it a secret.

Of course though the few thousand people actually watching will keep Dion's secret. I've far more respect for someone spending a few dollars on "knock off" clothing than thousands of dollars on designer shit - or hair extensions. Imagine spending $2000 on hair so that you can look the same as half the other housemates. All the brunettes are frankly interchangeable.

Taylah has become a bit more defined to me. I however was a bit lost with the sisters in one of the episodes this week. They were discussing thoughts on their men. I literally didn't know who they were talking about because I didn't know who was who. Caveat is maybe I wasn't fully paying attention, but I definitely was lost.

The new guy whose name I don't remember told Ari something along the lines that she matched his description of his type on the card he gave to Big Brother. So undoubtedly this is a feature of the casting.

It doesn't help having a Taylor and Tay - I'm still not sure which one is the sister.

I'm never a fan of two housemates playing as one, though BB doesn't follow through with that outside of nominations and the individual challenges. Really if one of them goes on a date the other should third wheel. If one of them is the Queen both of them should be the Queen (doubt Josh would have minded!) etc.

Tactically putting them up for eviction along with the two boyfriends of the week would be a smart move - at the moment that's a block of three who won't vote for each other.

I fully agree on every point.

Clown giving off Mark Holden on Dancing With The Stars vibes.
oh yeah I remember that I think it was 2014? kinda creeptastic/part kooky haha.

Yep, found this on his youtube getting done up as the clown AGAIN after all the comments on DWTS lol:

Yeah the two playing as one thing is always a massive advantage to those players as long as they aren't complete idiots. The Sugar Sisters likely last a lot longer either under this format or with only a vote to evict, it was the vote to save which did them in. Logans basically coasted through the game despite all David's misogynistic behaviour. Making the housemates vote out Dave gave them a much higher chance of winning than it otherwise would have as well (I guess the housemates should have voted out Greg but in 2005 that was never going to happen).

After reading this thread and advising myself that if I’m going to watch anything this week, it’s going to be uncut.

The daily shows do a good job of catching you up with what’s been happening, which I appreciate, when I don’t have the want to watch everything and understand every detail of what’s going on.But this last week I just didn’t feel drawn at all to the show. This cast and BB himself and the challenges they give them are about as good as a really bad root.

So with a bit of time tonight I fired up uncut to catch myself up with the comings and goings. It was even more disappointing than I had expected. I was thinking part way through how I was absolutely going to flame this show in my posting this week. I don’t watch BB to watch 20 somethings playing kissing games. They are all in the same mould, and, really makes this season fall flat, it’s the worst channel 7 season Ive seen.

That’s until it hit maybe 35 minutes in and BB threw this unexpected spanner in the works where he was going to put those relationships to the test. This is so much what was needed. Open up that shell, bring out some emotions and let’s see who these people really are. That last 15 minutes flipped it for me and now I’m genuinely invested in it.

As far as watching every episode? Probably not, but enough to watch when I reasonably can, and skip past the crap manufactured bits which no doubt the daily show once again will be full of!. If I had lots more time Id probably watch the daily’s, but the decent catchups in the episodes and this forum will keep me going.

Still a bit confused about all the names though and sometimes hard to tell who’s talking. Im also terrible at recognizing faces, certain faces can blend in w me.

Btw I think this is the GracieMae show, there is at least 20 minutes of her in uncut😝
