BB21 Prize Money vs 2001

The prize money makes little difference to casting these shows so they don't make a big deal out of it now.

TV tonight did a brief article about it some time back.

I would argue that it does have some effect, more so on how nervous decision making would affect players and how it could make you feel being responsible for others losing out, too. The difference between a million $ mistake and a 250k mistake is massive.

Also as a viewer it’s more fun knowing the winner is going to be that well off. $100k is a stupid prize for 12 weeks in a studio and giving up on your life outside in the meantime. But yeh this BB incarnation is easy as fuck if you aren’t a big gameplayer. $250k isn’t a bad prize but it is becoming more insignificant as time moves on.

I remember the Logan season it made an interesting that the prize money got deducted when players stepped out of line. I don’t think the current ch 7 production team would dare do anything so adventurous.

Yeah it wasnt just the 2005 season either 2006 they cut it right down in fines then won back during 'The Prize Fight' FNL episode back up to a respectable $426 000 or something.

and IIRC 2007 started out with $0 prize money and they won money for the kitty through the tasks or something? 2008 they dug it up in briefcases hidden under the backyard I think and gave their 'Share' to a certain housemate when they were evicted or something wasnt it.

Canada probably had the right idea by having a cash prize ($100k) plus two or three additional prizes provided by sponsors which probably equate to another $30-$50k. Some years they're better than others though - this year Weber provided $10k to spend on grilling products. I don't think anyone would ever have to spend that much on BBQs.

The cash prize being a fifth of what the US version offers though doesn't make much difference - it becomes about winning and sometimes we get so caught up in large cash prizes that are rarely won we forget how lifechanging just a few thousand can actually be. It may not buy you the house outright but if it gets you the deposit it can still be life changing.
