5 thoughts.... (Week 1)

No one will watch a woke big brother (lets not forget that only around ten percent of australians vote for the greens at most state/federal elections).

What has "woke" got to do with the Greens? There's nothing wrong with being inclusive and having an awareness of social and racial issues and discrimination in society. That's just being a decent fucking person.

An appropriate analogy might be adding a teaspoon of cordial to a glass of water then wondering why there is no taste.

Anyway, coming back to the "nobody will watch" thing, have you even looked at the latest BBUK? The cast is packed with people from different backgrounds, including a wheelchair-using HM. But I guess no-one is watching that? Woke is great. BBAU needs more woke. Like a LOT more.

I’m watching it.
It’s a bit too much with the gay relations being given a lot of attention.
But it’s %100 better than what we are seeing this week.
Do you think Jordan will win?
I haven’t read any public opinion on it yet but I assume he’d be a favourite because he is absolutely fascinating.

BTW:
This year’s US BB has been really good too.

Maybe save that conversation for the BBUK thread. Nothing worse than spoilers in an unrelated one.

The Greens are only majorish Australian political party who strongly advocate for what a lot of us would see as "woke" policies.

This is excluding the various fringe groups, such as socialist alliance, anarchists, etc, which mainly operate on university campuses and inner cities.

Most people you would describe as "woke" vote Labor. And on top of that, marriage equality was legalised by a Coalition government. So, uh... I have no idea what you're on about. And it's so off topic here I have nothing further to add. Not going to waste any more time.

1. I’m still enjoying this for what it is (otherwise I wouldn’t keep watching). However I started watching the new BBUK the other night, I’m up to Ep 8 and I’m only watching the daily show (not the live and late show) but it really does make me yearn for that kind of BB in Australia. The current UK season is showing how chucking a diverse group of people into a house and watching how they interact is entertaining.

2. I do think they have kind of tried to give us more footage of them just getting along, I enjoyed that part of the uncut episode.

3. I said on the first night that Dion seemed irritating but thought he would slowly grow on me, and he has. He seems entertaining, I suspect in a more strategic game he would shine so in a way I am looking forward to a challenge and more strategic nominations. I think it’s a fair critique to say that this group of HMs are not diverse enough, but to be fair also, there might be some really interesting social things going on and we just don’t see them.

4. I like Sonia going into the eviction room.

5. I was hoping it would do better (ratings wise). I’m still very hopeful that 7 are watching BBUK and how it’s going well and give it a go next year.

Seeing as their contract is over I'm not sure they would risk another attempt on the back of these dire ratings. If they still had the obligation for one more then they might consider it. But then they might feel it's throwing good money after bad. 🤷‍♂️

Would they be able to announce a 2024 season without having some kind of contract?

I’m just not as optimistic that any other network will pick it up.

Even though BBUK seems to be doing okay, that doesn’t guarantee success in Australia. It’s still going to be a huge risk.

They'd hold first rights for 2024, so yes, they could just say the word. If they wanted. Right now they're probably wishing it was over to avoid any more humiliation.

Surely they didn't expect this season of BB to rate? If they did, they would not have pushed it out to November....

Clearly they didn't. And I also don't believe for a second they would even consider another season, regardless of BBUK's success.

It's always pretty obvious at Upfronts which commissions won't make it to air the next year - it's usually the ones that are yet to air this year. Announcing a 2024 season was more about a last minute push for ad sales for the 2023 season than anything else.

The question now is what show gets the stinker slot next year for Seven - this is why their stripped strategy makes no sense. Rather than airing something in October then in November surely better to air something weekly/twice a week beginning in October that viewers will then stick with during November.

I don't even think that they wanted to announce a 2024 season. The whole description of "next year's" season is the description for this year's season. Somebody didn't care, thought "well, the (ratings) year is over anyways" and put 2024 in by accident.

I don't think Seven has ordered a season for 2024 yet, but the announcement will surely lead to a "canned" season in the BBAU history book.
