But one point that came out again was Alex defending using overseas ideas, mentioning that they all share ideas and tell each other what works etcetera.

The thing is

95% of twists and tasks in BBAU come from BBUK. This isn't sharing, it's just duplication.
Funnily enough, a couple weeks ago I was re-watching the end of BB05 when Nadia from BBUK entered the house and while she is talking to Gretel on stage Nadia mentions how tasks and shows that had been done here were exactly like ideas used on BBUK... yet, straight away Gretel told her that she was wrong and that BBUK actually took them from BBAU instead... which, I'm sorry Gretel but as much as I love you, you can't defend it that much when it's quite clear that BBAU re-used ideas that had been done months - if not years - prior on BBUK. "Apparently" BBAU still came up with the ideas first.

99% of Australians have no idea.

Yeah but it goes a little bit further than that. You wanna think the Australian television industry is better than copying 95% of ideas for a show from the UK. Even if the public have no idea, it's just not a great reflection on our country's creativity.

It was all a copy of an original idea. We can't forget that.

Yeah I don't really see a massive problem with sharing ideas. It is sharing, UK do use some Aussie ideas like the narrated documentary task. (BBAU 12 > BBUK14)

Why reinvent the wheel? Most of our shows are copies from international versions anyway. Big Brother is not in a bubble in this respect.

My thoughts exactly bleachy

Why is none of the Australian news sites posting any of this? Only UK.

Haha, I wish an actual Aussie news site would post Big Brother house stuff. I know there was an article I was looking at yesterday, but it only showed the guy in the diary room.

Also Daily Mail Australia is just a bunch of young "desktop" journalists who sit there and trawl the internet for stories they can repurpose.

Look, I’m not opposed to sharing ideas either. I am actually welcoming the BBUK additions to BBAU this season more than ever, however I think what @Tim is getting at is that Big Brother in Australia is now at a point where nearly everything they do is now based off of the UK version in some way.

There’s no originality left in any of their new ideas, and anything we do have that’s our own is leftover from the original Ten series (i.e. “It’s Time To Go”, etc). It’s as though they’d rather rehash existing ideas from now on rather than think of something different. Again, while I personally don't mind too much, I honestly can’t think of many things BBAU has done since being on Nine that hasn’t been inspired by BBUK in the first place…

I agree! Alex is from the UK so it probably points him there automatically.

Edit: Maybe this is why the house pics are on the AU part of Daily Mail (which is UK Based?)

I don't like them, but I like the pictures so I'm writing up an article on the house (posted soonish, I'm going out soon so might be a bit later on)

I'm sure it hurts people within the industry too. There's an annoyance within the industry about Australian made shows not being featured heavily on television, especially with the cancellation of A Place to Call Home and probable conclusion of Offspring (haven't been following news on this one, so it may be going on now for all I know). I think laziness in places where the content is made in Australia just hurts the industry in the long run.

New Big Brother opens its doors to TheFIX....for a night of drunken debauchery

Rubbing off the last stubborn streak of glittery green eyeliner from my face and waking up a little fuzzy from a night on the champs, it was soon clear I’d fallen victim to Big Brother.
Yep, in preparation for the 2014 season, kicking off next Monday, TheFIX was given an exclusive taste of the latest instalment of the reality show juggernaut.
And that came in the form of being one of the very first housemates to eat, drink, sleep, shower and party under the watchful eyes of Mr BB.
With a selection of strangers, we entered the Dreamworld compound on the Gold Coast for a 24-hour dress rehearsal of the lavishly designed mega-home.

And what a mega-home it is. The theme has a Miami-on-steroids vibe with an extreme indulgence of colourful flamingos: both plastic yard decorations and an entire wall plastered with a dramatic print of the birds.
Flamingos and intensely coloured velvet pillows seem to come hand-in-hand in the new house, with the colours of every room vamped-up to offer inmates (ahem, we mean housemates) an almost mind-tripping eight week stay.
