Finale Alert! Happening 8 December

I expected a short season but I’m actually extremely disappointed. I was so hopeful when it started but this season has been a massive let down in just about every way. It’s as if they threw it all together in a few weeks.
Should have given us 6 weeks this season! I get they had the holdback and Xmas is fast approaching but still!

2026 = Definitely happening. The ratings are enough to warrant another season

Look, if this show has any chance of surviving beyond next year, the first and most obvious thing they need to do is extend the damn season. Some people are hoping for 80-100 days - that's wishful thinking, as I still think next year will be a fair bit shorter than the average OG Ten era season. My prediction: Anywhere between 50-60 days. Only if next season does well would they even consider a season that lasts 80-100 days.

Secondly, they need to make (in some cases) far better casting choices. I don't know who the casting director was but some of the choices for housemates were terrible and the ratings would crash and burn if they were the cast of a longer season. So, in a way, it's a relief that they've kept this season short. My prediction: The auditions and casting process will be a lot more thorough, and they will ensure that we get housemates that we will want to watch for a 2 month run.

And thirdly, a proper stage for the launch, evictions and finale, please. My prediction: there will be something better, but not sure if it will be anything like the OG Ten era.

Smaller changes that I want for 2026 include:

  • Stricter Big Brother
  • Competition-style individual tasks that can grant special prizes to the winner
  • Intruders and an intruder eviction (whether that's decided by the housemates or the public is another matter)
  • Only one or two double evictions
  • Big Brother to return to not interacting with Housemates outside the diary room
  • Big Brother to only refer to himself in the third person
I genuinely want Big Brother to be around for a long period of time, but I fear that most of what I've written will not happen next year (apart from the longer season) and we could be staring down the barrel of a fourth, and perhaps final, cancellation by this time next year.

They teased this reboot about a year ago, and with all that time you’d expect a properly planned season. I get that the Channel 7 situation caused delays, but a strict four-week run just isn’t it. Normally, as numbers drop, the real personalities start shining through, but we’re not getting that this year. Instead, we’re stuck with a month-long Colin show, and honestly, I don’t know how much more of that I can sit through.

I went in with such high hopes, but it really feels like 10 have completely blown it. Not in terms of ratings, but in terms of what Big Brother is supposed to be, and what fans like us of this show actually want. As someone who loves the social experiment side of the show, this season has been a letdown on so many fronts. The production favouritism is my biggest issue. It’s painfully obvious.

I’m sure it’ll be back in 2026, it’s been a huge win for 10. But I genuinely hope they come back with something that respects the fans who actually care about the core of this format. I haven’t watched all week, and I don’t even feel motivated to catch up.

I’m sorry but people that are hoping for a much longer season next year are dreaming. I won’t be surprised if it’s just as short or they add another 2 weeks max

Why would they keep BB as short when its given them so much success yet they can run shows like Masterchef for months on end and that is not doing anywhere near as well with younger audiences right now.

Simple. Ratings. But the number of days should go up incrementally per season as long as the ratings are holding up. Ratings are more important for television now than the opinions of the general public. We could give a season an absolute roasting, but as long as those ratings remain good, they'll keep pumping out more seasons. As stated in my previous comment, I don't expect whoever the current crop of producers are to be willing to make many of the changes that myself and many others have requested for. I'm still preferring what they are giving us over the pre-recorded Channel 7 run, but this season feels more like three steps forward, two steps back. A lot of work to do, and I'm not confident they'll get to anywhere near the heydays of 03-07 BB. Can future seasons improve upon this year? Yes. Will it? Probably. But will it truly be fully OG? No, absolutely not.

Won't be as short, but there won't be an extreme jump back to OG era season lengths, at least not in just one year. 2 weeks more is possible, as it goes from 30 to about 45 days, but the ideal number would be closer to 50 or 60 (then again, that may be the number in '27). The primary thing people need to be concerned about is the fact that the network will be very pleased at the ratings number, and if it holds up over these last two weeks, the network may be more inclined to extend the next season. Even they would know that 30 days is way too short - it's the length of a typical CBB UK season on Channel 5, but they had a promise to viewers that we would get Big Brother this year, and we did. If they had said that they were going to do it, then didn't, and made us wait until '26, those ratings would not have been as high.

tbh I think with the live stream 30 days is enough, they could've stretched to 5 or 6 weeks, but what for? the housemates seem to sleep alot. It's after 10 am over there and they're all still in bed...where's a rooster when you need one? 🐓

That’s because today is the weekend and it’s the production’s “day off” - they won’t turn the lights on (re: the HMs are not allowed to be out of bed) until they want them to be. Another flaw in this whole thing. It’s just a manufactured TV show now, not a group of strangers living and interacting their own daily lives in a house.

We had a a livestream back in the day too and longer seasons were not a problem. The livestream should be a supplement to the main show not a replacement. And other versions around the world also have 24/7 live streaming and still manage to produce much longer more compelling seasons.

fair enough it's the weekend, but get them up to do something other than sleep in. They're still in bed the lazy-arses
They allegedly don’t record the show on the weekend, only supervise the HMs from a safety and well-being perspective (and live stream some of it). They don’t care what you’re seeing on the stream if they don’t have an incentive or aren’t being paid to do anything. This is exactly part of our concern as fans and viewers - this is not BB, it’s a contrived reality show.

Maybe they'll jazz it up a bit more next year then, but I don't reckon they will
