Early thoughts on 10 revival

My thoughts are that it’s feeling like a channel 7 and channel 9 hybrid that is saved from the live streaming.

The editing has gotten better but the transition clips of the cameras are too long. We don’t need to see the camera three times and then a zoom in on the room with the static screen fading in. It’s too much and takes time away.

I hate the music, it wasn’t as bad last night (well the first half anyway) but it just feels love island and not BB. Scenes should feel like they were generally captured on camera and we’re supposed to feel like we’re peeping Tom’s watching these people just be normal and live their day to day house life. Hence why I’m an advocate for camera runs.

The house itself is very cheap looking and rushed. I get maybe why that is but next year I’d prefer a more permanent looking structure away from the exhibition centre. It’s very unlikely but fix it please. If anything they simply need anything else for the stage area. It’s way too small and needs a roof, channel 10’s original live shows were great and made it feel like a huge event. Mel deserves this.

Speaking of Mel I think she’s doing really well, last night especially. Soemtimes it comes across as bit awkward but I feel that’s because production aren’t utilising her enough. Have her talk to the house in the live shows? She isn’t AJ and Will, let her have some fun with the housemates. I want to see them get excited to see and hear from her.

I’m glad they fixed the theme music a bit but get rid of the generic music when Mel is on screen. The BB theme or nothing else, also I would have liked to hear the old bb theme with the nominations tally board (which desperately needs faces and an upgrade to not look like an excel sheet).

My last thing is stop pushing Colin on the audience. If the audience likes him they’ll like him naturally as they do with any other young Aussie larrikin type casting choice. But I will echo that he gets shown when it isn’t necessary and Mel was being fed things to say to pump him up to the audience.

Overall it’s not bad, not great though. But there’s time to improve things. I’m still having fun but dare I say that so far 2012 and 2013 are miles better.

Ding ding ding. 💯

My thoughts:

  • The house looks too sci-fi and unrealistic with all the bright colourful lights. At times it looks like a set of a Star Wars movie. I want a natural looking house. I thought the Nine era houses weren't so bad.
  • Background music needs to GTFO! 'Nuff said.
  • While it’s a huge improvement over Seven’s Big Brother, it still feels more similar to that version than to Ten’s original Big Brother. Even Nine’s Big Brother felt closer to Ten’s version than this one does.
  • I'm warming up to Mel Tracina. She seems awesome and sweet.
  • I still don't like how this season will go for 4 weeks. Seems unnatural.
  • Leave out political ideologies. Let the housemates keep their politics to themselves, whether they're woke or conservative. Did we even know the politics of the Ten era housemates? Why is politics so important nowadays?

Yeah it appears this was a big thing for their casting this year. Which I somewhat get from a social experiment point of view and I don’t think Australia is ready for an all girl/gay final like BBUK2023, but still a bit overkill with the trumpies. I doubt the 2012 males were like this.

Yeah I mean just imagine a housemate from 2005 in his/her promo saying "I'm a Bush fan, and I'm pro Iraq War, I'm not a fan of Labour and liberals piss me off, etc" - No one will take them seriously and they won't even be accepted as housemates. 😂

I miss the days when they used to say simple things like "I'm a loudmouth, I don't cook, I live with my mum & I hate pets". What you hate is something personal in your life. No politics and crap like that.

Yeah this. Why did we have to get people who are against 'woke'. Like wtf? Who was against woke in the previous 9 and 10 days?

Sick of hearing whether something is woke or whatever. Throw that word in the bin. It was never in any previous BB, dont need it polluting this.

Oh and yeah agree with all your other points too it's just I've stuffed up the quote.

Honestly I am very happy. I feel like they're nailing it. I'd say it's even better then the current bbuk series. The stream is a hit. Mel is great, and I feel they are very receptive to feedback on what we want. Great selection of housemates also. It's a great mix of the BB we loved all those years ago but new enough to be fresh and attract a new audience. The only way is up

I am very happy with the series so far and the stuff some people are complaining really doesn't bother me that much, I am just happy that we have gone back to a truly live interactive format. From all accounts this season is a hit with viewers from overseas too, especially those from the UK. Majority seem to be preferring how our version is being done right now over their own.

I don't know how to break it to you but nit picking is our thing. Biggest fans and biggest critics.

Just want the show to do well so we can get at least a few more seasons out of the brand. As it’s been said, this is probably the last attempt at BBAU. I just want to see it done right. It’s still too similar to what 7 was doing compared to the original 10 run. @sav0001 I’m glad you’re content but they have the ability to blow this out of the water. The groundwork and framework is there and have *7* solid seasons under their belt already. They already proved they could do it better than any other country 20 years ago, bar maybe peak channel 4 days.

im just hoping the launch didn’t completely put some viewers off for the whole season.
From what I can see, the majority of casuals are liking this season and there are very few complaints from them compared to us the die-hard fans. So hopefully the ratings hold up; which they are doing so far.

The amount of extra younger viewers the show has brought back to 10 has been astonishing to see.

Look, I was low key kind of furious that we invested months in those marathons and were lead to believe we were getting something more like that only to be served up something else. But it is improving. The live stream is where it’s at and even if I don’t get to watch it much I’m so glad it’s there. I probably preferred channel 9 and it felt much more like bb, but I hated the lack of live stream so this is an automatic plus.

I really want to believe it will get better. It’s not horrible, just not what we were promised.

Everyone has said everything so well.

I am currently rewatching the 2013 show, and man, I really do miss the editing style they had. Channel Nine definitely had better editing than the current editing that 10 has. It felt more authentic, and more diverse in storylines. 9 also had a stricter BB than the current BB. I didn't mind how channel 9's BB was friendly, but strict when needed. God, I can't believe I'm getting nostalgic for channel 9. It would've been borderline perfect if 9 had livestreams.

The current version of BB is being held up solely by the live stream. Truly, if you're not keeping track, you're missing out. I hope that this season is experimental, and we do see vast improvements next year.

In fairness, I don't actually think the "Save Colin" comments were necessarily driven by production. When the audience saw he'd received points, they started making noise, so Mel just went with it. It's actually nice to see a host who interacts with the audience properly.
No the audience made noise when Mel explicitly pointed out that he had votes and asked “Are we surprised”? She then played on it more by asking the crowd if they’d vote to save him once they made some noise. The producers (via Mel) definitely drove that though.

I think the edited TV episodes have mostly been pretty shit except for episode 4. However the live stream has been pretty great for the most part. It's a shame that they are favouring certain people so much but I assume that happens on every reality tv show so you kind of just have to sigh. At least 2 of the most vile housemates are up for eviction (That whole conversation Holly had with Connor on the live stream where she referred to children with down syndrome as 'downies' really rubbed me the wrong way) and one of them is out first.
